So he was on the radio last nite and said that he's talked to manning and he believes if the colts take Luck Manning will not want to play for the colts, reason being that he believes that if your the #1 pick then you have to play. He also said that he talked to Eli and Eli thinks Peyton is gonna play this year.So if this is true about Peyton what do we make of this?

At this point, I think the best hope for this scenario would be that Peyton Manning does come back to play this year. And that Peyton plays well enough to convince the Colts' brass that it's worth stockpiling picks and/or players for another run or two with #18 at the helm.
As someone pointed out, the majority of the Colts core players are getting older; players like Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, and Jeff Saturday on offense. Dwight Freeney, Gary Brackett (who I believe is on IR this year), and Robert Mathis (who is going to command a big chunk of change this offseason). Realistically, if the Colts do take Andrew Luck, how many years will they have before they've got to rebuild a good portion of their team?
So, if Manning comes back and plays well enough to either win a few games or convince the Colts front office to actually answer phone calls about that top pick, I think that'd be the best case scenario. There's a few guys on Miami's roster who would be nice additions for the Colts, especially on defense (Odrick, Burnett, Davis/Smith). And, with a chance to secure Luck, I don't think you have to be all that frugal with future draft picks.
However, all that's assuming Peyton comes back this year, plays, and plays well enough for the Colts to entertain offers for that top pick (assuming they didn't play themselves out of it...but that's getting really carried away at this juncture). That'd be the best-case scenario in my opinion. -

If peyton comes back and gets a clean bill of health, I think the Colts are nuts to let him walk. How can that organazation turn their back on a guy that has given them so many great seasons. Of course we are talking about Ursla and I would not put it past him but it would be really tasteless.

At this point, I think there is a better chance Peyton Manning is in a Miami Dolphin uniform next year then Andrew Luck.

It's an interesting dilemma the Colt's FO would face. Do you restock to make a 2-3 year run with Peyton? Or go into 'rebuild mode' with Luck? I think Colt fans could be happy either way, as winning another Super Bowl would be worth losing out on Luck, but having Luck to build around for the next 12-15 years would be great too.
With his health concerns, and even if Peyton comes back to play a couple games this year, looking to the future is probably the best way for them to go. Trade away Peyton for a third and fifth (or a young impact player or two). They might even look at trading away a few more of those older players you mentioned. Build a new, young team around Luck with the plan to start making a playoff run in year two of the Luck Era.
I'd be cool with getting Peyton for a couple years, along with Blackmon and the best OT with our second rounder, and making a run in 2012. The cost of putting together a package to move up for Luck would be staggering. We would need to offer Wake, Odrick, Long, our first and second rounders in 2012 and 2013. You'd have Luck, and a gutted team around him for 2-3 years. -
Zero percent chance Peyton will play this year. I'd bet my house on it. Especially with the Colts 2 games ahead in the Luck sweepstakes.
-
If Peyton can play, it would be stupid of the Colts not to trade the #1 for a bunch of picks. Use the picks to fortify the team and make a final few runs for a Super Bowl to send Manning off into the sunset.
-
Seriously, it's one injury and his first. The Colts would be nuts. There are even Dolphins fans who wouldn't want Manning if the Colts wanted to trade him just because of the neck surgery. It's one thing to say it's because he's old (though as Dolphins fans, we really can't be picky with QB's...I would gladly take Manning for 3 seasons where we would finally be a real contender possibly) but to say because he had a surgery is ridiculous. Ask Nick Satan & Drew Brees about that...

I just don't care. Let's draft our own home grown, young franchise QB for the long term. No more band aids. -

This is the worst team I've ever seen by a country mile. I hope peyton holds out and demands a trade if they take luck. And luck will have to be the next manning, for them to finish better than 4-12 anytime in the next 5 years. This was a division champ last year..last several years. Not only do they suck without Peyton...they don't even belong in the damn league. This year is a shameful debacle for those lay down losers.

The Colts would be fools to trade away the #1 pick and NOT take Luck. They have the opportunity to potentially draft the "next Peyton Manning." If there is any team in this league who knows how important having a stud QB is, it's Indy. Why trade away the opportunity to get the best player? Would be absolutely foolish.
-
To late now we will probably win 3 more games. We will win enough games where Luck and Barkley wont be there.
-
The Colts would be absolutely nuts not to draft Luck. Manning is near the end of his career and with his neck problems over the last year, there is no guarantee that he will ever be able to play at the level he did prior to the injury. The Colts are very aware of how a franchise QB can turn a losing team into a winner in a very short period. I don't see Manning playing at all this season because of his health issues. It is possible that the Colts might trade Manning, but I hope the Dolphins aren't the team he is traded to. The Dolphins are a few years from being a legitimate playoff caliber team. By the time they are competing for a spot in the playoffs, Manning will probably be sitting in a broadcast booth.
The Dolphins would have to give up far too much in a trade for Manning. If the Colts are willing to make a trade for the first pick in the draft instead, I wouldn't care if the Dolphins traded their entire draft this year plus their first pick next season for Luck. My view is that Luck will be the next great NFL QB and the Dolphins should do everything they can to secure him in the draft. Unfortunately the Colts are smart enough to recognize how great Luck will be, so I don't see them willing to trade this pick for any offer, from any other team. -

I think Manning will be a Jet.

We are talking about the best QB in the game since 1999. I think he will come back and play again. Be it in Indy or somewhere else I think we see Manning in 2012. I'm also in no way opposed to seeing him play for the Dolphins. I see it more comparable to Brett Favre 2009/Kurt Warner 2008 then I do Daunte Culpepper. Whoever obtains the services of Peyton Manning could potentially be getting lightening in a bottle.
-
If Manning becomes a Jet I will explode with anger the same way I did when Tomlinson became a Jet.
-
So if Payton Manning doesn't want to come to Miami,. because we are not a good team, why in hell he should choose the Jests?
-
I have to assume you were just joking when you made the above comment. Because if you weren't, you obviously have not been watching the Dolphins and Jets play over the last three years. The Dolphins were 7-9 the last two seasons and they are 2-7 so far this season. The Jets on the other hand have played in the last two AFC championship games with Sanchez as their QB. If Manning had been the QB of the Jets for the last three years, instead of Sanchez, it is very likely that the Jets would have been in the Super Bowl and maybe even won at least one.
I can't stand the Jets, but I could certainly understand why he would prefer to play for the Jets at the end of his career, instead of coming to Miami and being part of a rebuilding project under a new HC. I don't expect Manning to be a Dolphin next year and I hope he is not a member of the Jets. If the Colts decide to trade him and draft Luck, I hope they trade him to a team in the NFC. I think a great team for him to play for would be the 49er's. With Manning as their QB, the 49er's would be a major Super Bowl contender and a serious threat to end a possible Packers dynasty.ssmiami likes this. -

The smart play for the Colts is to draft Manning's successor, like Green Bay did when they drafted Rodgers, whether that p9ick is Luck or some other QB, but they need to draft the heir apparent to Manning. With his neck injury, it's sad to say his days are numbered. Maybe he has one more season in him, maybe he has three. Who knows and it's hard to say, but looking at it from an organizational point of view, the Colts have to look to the furture.
Draft his heir, have him sit behind Peyton and learn from one of the all time greats....then ride off into the sunset. -

If the Colts could get a ton of picks in trade for Luck and still get their future Qb later and stockpile young talent to give Manning a shot at title that would be really nice too. Its a tough call because Manning has been such an amazing player, really we talk about Luck like its a given he will be great but he could get hurt, complacent, etc it happens. If the Colts trade Manning, watch him win another title with someone else and never win one with Luck then the trade was a disaster.

Right now?
The jets lost to tebow
Ill holla -
I guess the difference between you and I is that I don't believe that the Jets are better team then the Dolphins, maybe the Jets reputation at the moment is better then Dolphins considering all the issue that we had starting from the FO trying to hire a Coach while Sparano still was the HC, to all the talks of fire Sparano from week two, ect. ...but not talent wise.

I just have a funny feeling that the colts won't get the bounty of picks they're hoping for.
The way the other QB prospects are playing will allow qb hungry teams(it's not many) to stand pat and eventually select the one who falls to them.
And for the record, I like Luck but why give up a chunk of your future when other talented qbs will be available?
And can you imagine Indy going in the record books as the second 0-16 team only for a couple of premium picks? I hope all of the prospects declare. -
-
I agree that there are many potential franchise QBs in this draft and that will hold down the price that the Colts could get for trading down.
I also think that the severity of Manning's injury makes him more of a comparison to the Culpepper situation than to Favre. In fact, I would argue that a neck injury is far more likely to end your career than a knee injury now-a-days. That doesn't mean that he can't come back, but you would have to go in knowing that the odds of him making it through the season are probably Pennington-like. -

Would love for Peyton to come back this season and play and WIN.....a lot (at least 3 times minimum:tongue2:) but I do not think he will see the field this season...and maybe never again (either way, he will always be one hit away with that NECK/SPINAL CORD issues).
