Sounds like Penny knows what's up and isn't too concerned; that's good for us  -
The thing about Carey though, he had his worst season since he was a rookie last season...but he still was "good' but not nearly the All Pro at Rt he was in 2006.
-
I'm beginning to wonder about Channing Crowder leaving, whether that is a good idea or not, what is typically said about Crowder is "all he does is make tackles'...it reminds me of Buddy Ryan cutting Chris Carter with ""all he does is catch touchdowns"...A ILB's job is to make tackles..DevilFin13 likes this. -
Nah, mostly Crowder just lags behind plays after getting beat..
Re-signing Carey is a HUGE must IMO!!! -
-
As for forcing fumbles or int's, Channing has played on some really bad Dolphins teams, the opportunities for such plays were few and far between for him to make those plays. -
Keep him here and draft a young T to develop -
If Ireland and Tuna and Gaines have another good draft, we could rebuild our Secondary and half our Linebacking corps in this draft and free agency period. -
Im a bit surprised, but at the same time im not.... Im surprised if we re-sign him to a big deal... IMO, he isnt worth it. He just wasnt good enough this year. However, if we can sign him, to a deal thats good for the team/cap... im all for it...he's no slouch thats for sure. okay, yeah, he had a bad year, but he's still a good player. I just dont think he's worth, what i feel he's going to ask for, which is alot. If we can get him signed to a good deal, that compensates him, but is a huge plus to the team financially and cap wise... im all for it. At least then we can spend a pick elsewhere.

Just to compare Carey with Runyan (I'm doing an eagles sheet like I did for the phins) Carey gave up 47 yards and Runyan gave up 63 yards. They both played in the same amount of games and had backups playing the RG position next to them.
Just to point it out there. I think Carey wanting big money isn't as big a deal as Crowder wanting big money. -
Please resign Crowder and Bell and Goodman as well.
Did anyone else notice all the points we gave up to the Chiefs while Crowder was out? The guy isnt a superstar, but put the right player next to him and he will be very good for us and our scheme. Letting him go would be a waste unless hes going for a contract way out of his scope, but seeing the lack of interest by anyone in Briggs last year ... whos paying?
Bell and Goodman were our best 1-2 punch in the secondary last year, and while we need to add youth and depth, losing both of thse guys would be a step back for sure.Sceeto likes this. -
i really hope we resign Carey. and i am unsure if i want Pennington to sign a contract extension. first off, let him think and let him play it out. also, he is aging and while he was our "savior" this year, he isn't going to be with the Fins for another decade. we have Henne, who shouldn't be on the bench much longer. 2 full seasons of playing behind a veteran is good enough. he will open up our offense much more, and i feel that Henne is going to be our future. no sense in having to wait longer.

He's worth a good contract, but not top 5 Tackle money in my opinion. He isn't bad either so the contract should be a good amount.
He's a great community guy from the area, and it would be nice to have the RT spot figured out for a while.
Plus it does help us when looking at draft needs come April. -
Also, if vontae, sean smith, and jenkins are off the board, which is pretty likely, who do you want at the 25th.,,who presents that value? -
If we let Goodie leave, we will need two Cb's...I'd make the other one Darius Butler.
Reagan is the defensive back afficianado, I merely think in terms of strategy. -
we need to get ronnie an extion before Pennington
-
Dare I say I like him more than Sean Smith (though Sean may be 2nd).padre31 likes this. -
The problem I see for Sean Smith is he is does not seem to be the type of Cb who can cover the 5'10 slot receivers like Welker or Washington when the Jets split him out.
S. Smith is a large Db...a guy like Butler could do it, and you cannot coach speed...there is no substitute for it. -
-
-
We need a Cb who can play the #3 role, and has the speed to cover the slot Wr and also stick with a Te if they move out.
And "yes" I can see either one of those guys having that job, in fact, that would be the perfect training ground for either one of them.-
Recall, when teams went 3 or 4 wide, we had major league problems trying to deal with that formation, even KC lighting us up with a Juco spread offense..we need some help in the Defensive Backfield..badly. -
-
And keep in mind Allen and Goodman are 30 or older, when Cb's run out of gas, it tends to happen quickly. -
Resistance...is futile..
And we need two Db's...one to play #3, the other to develop. -

A CB can play from Day One and contribute in nickel and dime packages.
And if I had a nickel for every "this guy is different" line of thought I could re-up for 10 years..
We have so many needs that one draft is not going to get the job done, that is why we signed C. Wake and I'm sure we will find some other non regular type players...this season could be the last one where Saban's players are in key roles. -
Isn't D Bess our natural slot Wr?
We took Ginn at #9 and he did not sniff 1,000 receiving yards, it generally does take a couple of years for a Wr to develop, Colston and Bowe are soft exceptions to that rule. -
