No salary cap in 2010. This opens up FA to whoever is willing to pay the most $$ and provide the best sales pitch. If we're willing to take the risk with guaranteed money upfront, we can solve a lot of problems real quick. Here's what want at various positions, in order of preference.
Top WRs:
Vincent Jackson - Big, fast, and reliable. I'll take him opposite the Ginn family with Bess/Hartline/Camarillo in the slot.
Miles Austin - Big producer. Small ego.
Brandon Marshall - Big producer. Big ego.
Braylon Edwards - The reason why we don't poach much from the Jest is that they got nothing to poach. Edwards is overrated.
Top NTs:
Vince Wilfork - I would love nothing more than to poach the Cheateriots starting NT.
Richard Seymour - Nothing like having a guy with a chip on his shoulder when the Cheaters show up.
Aubrayo Franklin - I've had the opportunity to follow this guy in the Bay Area, and can vouch that he is a beast.
Top LBs:
Outside of Shawne Merriman there are little options. I'm not sure I want to see our Phins spending money on a roid raged, injury prone player. But if we do pick him up, he'll be an improvement on the Weak side opposite Wake/Taylor.
Top FS:
Nick Collins. Take him in a heartbeat.

Plus, every team will get an additional tag (they can elect to use two franchise tags or one franchise and one transitional tag). The good news is, teams that make the divisional playoffs will receive some restrictions (http://www.footballsfuture.com/2010/fa/opt.html).NoCalFinFan and Stitches like this. -
You first need to ask yourself will this ownership spend in an uncapped year? If Wayne was still in charge I would say a definite yes.

My dream scenario would be Marshall and Wilfork, but that's a dream.
Ideally if we could add Antonio Bryant and a Shawne Merriman and/or Nick Collins I'd be happy.adamprez2003 likes this. -

We have to see if they come up with an agreement, or if we go uncapped. Going uncapped is not as friendly as it sounds. It does have draw backs for the players.

Seymore and Wilfork will both be UFAs. I'd love to poach Wilfork.
Look like all the WRs are under 6 years. Wonder what the rule is for a player that was already a FA like Braylen Edwards. Usually, once a player enters FA, the restrictions come off.Marco likes this. -
You are assuming the NFL will allow this, the higher ups would rather have a lockout.

If im understanding this right, then Miles Austin and Marshall will be tagged in a heartbeat.
-
agreed. I'm really afraid of what will happen to football without a salary cap.
bye bye green bay and buffalo thats for sure.Frumundah Finnatic, Dolphins1Beatles and NoCalFinFan like this. -

I would imagine the Phins to be much like the Cardinals in the MLB. A tradition rich team that spend a lot of money for a couple of years, push of a title, then goes cheap for a couple of years.
-
Vince Wilfork and Richard Seymour will be, but both are virtually certain to be tagged. -
free agency was going to kill small market teams
didnt happen -
Ugh I don't want to even think about a lockout. I don't know what I'd do without Dolphins football.
-
Imagine adding one of those receivers along with Wilfork and Collins... instant turn around.
Won't happen, though. I could see a large portion of that list being tagged. -
Ross has said he wants a #1 WR, he would pay.

The best part of an uncapped year may being able to get rid of some of the waste we accumulated over the years.
Casualties may include:
Ginn, Porter, Wilson/Bell, Torbor, Will Allen, Jason Allen, Crowder, Potentially Carey.
Of course wouldn't be cutting them all, but mistakes would be able to be erased really quickly. Don't have to worry about dead cap space in an uncapped year.
Wipe ourselves clean of overpaid mistakes. And maybe take a stab at one of the big free agent fish in the sea. -
Marshall does not have the 6 years required. -
-
-
A list more like:
- Larry Foote
- Ryan Pickett
- Chris Gocong
- Antonio Bryant
- Chris Chambers
- Alex Smith (TE)
Would make me quite happy and leave ourselves in great position for the draft without obligations of drafting anywhere. We'll take the best there is.
Could come out of the draft with McClain manning ILB that way. -
I don't see how anyone could be interested in Chris Chambers again. Being cut lit a fire under him that is not going to be a constant stimulus. Other than that he's basically the same guy as Ginn.
