Worth remembering we were an average team before hiring Gase. If he can’t improve on that then he’s the wrong coach IMO.

I agree with the no excuses view. 9-7 is the minimum for me.

 

I am not going to count last year against him. I am going to wait and see how he does with a healthy RT this year and go from there. Churning the coaching staff sets everyone back.

 

Because everyone knows that once you get the roster you want as a HC, you should win the Super Bowl every year. There are no other variables...at all.

 

Gase may finally be starting to get his guys, but it would be a huge travesty to not give him a few years with his guys to see what he can do. Dropping your HC every few years just leads to more losing. Gase is young, and by all accounts, a brilliant football mind. It's reasonable to let him go through his growing pains or else we will see him go on and become the next BB somewhere else. If the Dolphins go 0-16 next season I wouldn't want him fired.

 

There is no excuse for us not to have a top 3 offense.

Really HATE our week 1 matchup.

The biggest fear I have about this Dolphins team is stopping the run...and we draw a power running team with stud G’s.

It’s no wonder we are nearly a FG underdog at home in that game.

 

I hope we see improvement. Young players develop...and better consistency. Firing coaches every three years is a losers game.

 

You had me till that last part. This aint cleveland, sack anyone that doesn't win at least 5 games after year one. In this scenario, I think Gase is safe for one more year if he goes 8-8 or better.

Every year there is a "no excuses" thread. Then last year we lose Tannehill and have the trainwreck of the hurricane. It's silly to say "no excuses" cause there's always the possibility that something crazy happens.

These new guys are not guarantee instant success. We still have major holes and very little depth at Linebacker, Dline, corner.

We have major questions as to What Ryan we get and if he’s even going to be rusty.

I will agree that we seem to be assembling a team in Gases vision. Why we didn’t do this 3 years ago is beyond me, but here we are. We still don’t have a Gase quarterback unless Brock is what Gase wanted we will see.

I think Gase gets 2 more years before he’s on the Hot Seat. If we’re not a contender in 2 years I do t renew his contract. In today’s NFL you don’t get 8 years to build anything.

We have a TOUGH on paper schedule and I see us as 8-8 9-7 again just in looking at the schedule.

 

It's not win or else ... but a sub .500 and I think Gase is gone. A bottom 5 offense and Gase is gone. Suffering multiple crushing defeats - notably in that tough late stretch - and I think that's all she wrote.

On the flip? I don' think the lack of a playoff berth sinks him if we are competitive and finish at least 8-8 or greater. I think some defense issues will be excused as long as the O scores points and games are exciting.

I think Gase is on the hot seat, but it needs to be disastrous along the lines of last year to see him gone.

The caveat is Tannehills health. If he misses significant time and we have to play Osweiler and he is garbage? That does it for me, can't have 2 seasons like that.

 

Bottom line.. there are indeed excuses.

 

I think this draft and our free agency clearly showed Gase has at least two more years to turn this into a contender.

 

Barring disaster yes, this is very much a reset. The QB situation is the one danger zone I see. We simply cannot allow a repeat of last year, and rolling with a recovering Tannehill back by Brock Lobster ... that's a potential time bomb.

If Tannehill can come back and play like he did in 15'-16' That's definitely good enough to get us to the playoffs with the talent on the rest of the roster. Might be good enough to knock off the Patsies;crossing fingers every day of the year and next. I don't want to get too excited about the season though cause the Dolphins are champions of let downs. Please lord protect us from major injuries this season.

I'm optimistic the delayed culture change takes hold & Miami finally turns the corner. Reading comments from Gase over the past year, he came in green but is very competitive & adaptive to his environment. He also holds people accountable & will call them out publicly. Ballsy. I like it. If Stephen Ross is smart, Gase will be given all resources the franchise has to offer before letting him go(including oversight of an entire season).

 

Honestly wouldve loved to draft a quarterback in round 1, but at the same time im also willing to say there isnt a once in a generation qb prospect from this draft. Sam Darnold is probably the best prospect and he may be nothing more than a Chad Pennington at best when all is said and done..

I dont think any quarterback in this draft will become significantly better than tannehill, maybe slightly better or on the same tier... but Tannehill’s health is a question mark..

Now, you have zero excuses not to produce a top 3 offense. The homers told me Gase was an offensive genius and Tannehill was awesome.

A top three offense is a big ask. Top ten? More realistic. For example, as good as I think Gesicki can be? He won't be THAT good as a rookie, right? In fact, I'd expect him to really hit his stride in his third year.

I had Miami at 9 wins based on the schedule, but after this draft I'd bump that up to 10 wins. An offense and defense in the top 15 of the league. Gase has most of the players he wants now, but it will still take time for the younger guys to learn what is expected of them on both sides of the ball. I think the Gase influence will really shine in 2019, but we can still be a winning team in 2018.

One other thought: I keep forgetting about the Suh cap money that will free up after June 1st. We can grab a vet DT and another spot as needed, so the team should be even better than what we have now.

 

So, in your universe, all these new players just come in and gel instantly, and rookies all play to their ultimate potential starting from Game 1, Year 1? This is the first off-season, it seems, that Gase has been able to go get players he wants. It's year three. Give it a rest.

I get it, you don't like Gase or Tannehill, so you're chomping at the bit to be negative about them. Unless they go winless (a bit of hyperbole here), I wouldn't consider getting rid of Gase. On the QB front, you roll with Tannehill unless there's a better option...which I don't think is out there.

Gase has only had a top 3 offense when a healthy, at his peak, Peyton Manning was RUNNING the show with 2 dominant wideouts. Half this message board could of had a top 3 offense that year with the Broncos and would be a HC now too. Lol

Oh and he managed to have Jay Cutler suck slightly less than the usual in Chicago. Still sucked, but not all the way. Big props.

 

Or what? Fire the coach? Again? Let's give him 1 full year of healthy Tannehill. Then let's figure out what to do.

 

It's premature to suggest Gase should be anywhere near the hot seat.

He took a average team and went 10-6 to make the playoffs his first year. Last year between the hectic schedule/backup QB and the huge drop-off in the running game early in the season, I think its fair to give him a pass for all things 2017.

As far as Ryan goes, he's not going to have a "bad" year...question is will he have the kind of season he looked like he was midway through 2016?

Right now he is in the 12-18 range of NFL Qb's. I would like to see him solidify himself in that 9-12 range but if he plays anywhere near the way he did early 2016 then it's time to part ways.

 

My advice for anyone who has a problem with Gase as a coach is to listen to the YouTube Fitzpatrick interview I posted under Key Fins draft review thread. Fitzpatrick is coming from an excellent Alabama organization and even he says that coaches can only do so much. It starts with them, but it's up to the players to take it from there. The Patriots are the same way. Philly showed us what happens when the players unite and hold themselves accountable, too. Everybody needs to be working their butts off and rowing in the same direction. Even one guy who is there to just collect a check can set a team back if he gets enough followers in the locker room.

 

Only one stat matters in the NFL...wins. I could care less if we're top three or bottom three if the game ends in a victory. Likewise, I could care less what the Rams did since we spanked their asses with a retired, washed up quarterback. Or does that not matter? Maybe we should celebrate the Rams having prettier hair or shinier cleats instead of what really matters.

Miami is trying to build a powerhouse but your attitude is completely off base here. The goal is to win every game however you can...stats or power rankings don't bring home super bowl trophies. Only wins can do that.

 

9 of the top 11 offensive teams in the NFL made the playoffs. That's normally how it goes. They go hand in hand. The head coach's specialty is offense. People told me we had a top 10 qb. This is why I focused on the offense. What's the issue?

 

The issue? Nine of the top eleven made the playoffs, but for you it's top-three or we're a complete bust. So if we win the Super Bowl with the 8th ranked offense and 4th ranked defense, we may as well fire everybody because they all suck ***. You tell me what's wrong with that line of thinking.

 

If you are expecting me to have low expectations for an 'offensive genius' coach in his 3rd year and a 30-year old, $100 mil 'supposedly' top 10 qb...you have the wrong poster.

I expect them to do the job they are highly paid for. There is no point of this thing if all people ever expect is mediocre. Be great.
