Keys to the game
1-Pass Protection - As a whole, the Dolphins offensive line play has been an improvement over
last year, but will need to play at a higher level on Sunday against the Chargers front seven.
If Miami can keep Tannehill clean Sunday, the passing game should continue to spread the
football around and keep San Diego on their heels.
2-Control Rivers - Rivers, who has thrown a touchdown pass in a team-record 28 straight games,
and is 3rd in the NFL in both touchdown passes and quarterback rating. This is also a team that
doesn't turn the football over.
Dolphins must get consistent pressure and disguise coverage that forces the football into
tighter windows. Also they must win on third down for this defense to slow down Rivers and the
explosive weapons around him.
3-We need a complete game for the first time this year. The offense needs to show up right from the starters gate.
The defense and STs must play well the whole game. Its a tough stretch that we are facing and only
a complete game will get us through with a chance at the playoffs.
Injury report
Tight end Dion Sims was ruled out of the game against the San Diego Chargers on the final injury report of the week because of a toe problem, but no other Dolphins player is listed as worse than questionable.
That includes guard Daryn Colledge, who hasn’t practiced all week because of illness and a back injury. Colledge, who is listed as questionable, has never missed a game since entering the NFL in 2006 and his streak of 135 consecutive games is the longest current streak in the league among guards.
Also listed as questionable is linebacker Koa Misi, who was limited in practice all week because of an ankle injury. Misi missed the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday.
The Dolphins have seven players listed as probable: TE Charles Clay (knee), LS John Denney (knee), CB Cortland Finnegan (neck), G Nate Garner (neck), LB Chris McCain (foot), C Mike Pouncey (hip) and S Jimmy Wilson (hamstring).
Garner was a full participant in practice Friday after being limited the previous two days, while Denney and Finnegan had full participation every day this week.
McCain had limited participation Friday after sitting out practice Thursday. Clay, Pouncey and Wilson were limited all week.
San Diego listed three players as out, including starting running back Ryan Mathews (knee), starting linebacker Manti Te’o (foot) and rookie first-round pick Jason Verrett (shoulder).
Safety Jahleel Addae (concussion) was listed as doubtful after not practicing all week.
Rookie second-round pick Jerry Attaochu (hamstring), a linebacker from Georgia Tech, is listed as questionable.
The Chargers have six players listed as probable: RB Donald Brown (concussion), CB Brandon Flowers (concussion), LB Dwight Freeney (knee), C Rich Ohrnberger (back), LB Reggie Walker (ankle) and CB Steve Williams (groin). All six were full participants in practice the past two days.
We usually match up well against the Chargers especially at home .I expect a close game but a Dolphins win.:dolphin:

Nice first post. Perfect day to watch a football game here in VA. Cold and windy. If the fins can pull out a victory, this will be a great Sunday. Go Phins!!
-
I may add that Clay was very effective against the Chargers last year but has largely been invisible this year.We need to get him rolling in this game .He presents a matchup opportunity for our offense.

Thanks for the thread CT.
Looking for a good game by the offense today...they're due for a great one IMHO. STs really needs to put their big boy skivvies on today...particularly the two kicking types.
Jeff Ma - ESPN Predictive Statistics Analyst - just said he expects Miami to make the Chargers one-dimensional and earn an easy win. Let's hope Jeff is not your average ESPN moron. -
Get the game on TV here in Chicago again. I'm happy about that.
This is a real chance for the Dolphins to bring some light optimism back to this season for me. This is such a huge game if they want to make the playoffs. You have to beat people you're competing against at home.mullingan likes this. -
lets do this...as bad as it is, the death of philbins father ahould really kick in another gear for this team, they should be pumped up from the start, no slow start today !!!

In my opinion our linebackers will have the most impact determining a win/loss for any position other than Quarterback. Their play not only against the run, but in the passing game against two talented tight ends will be a huge factor.

youre welcome -
Really looking forward to this one. Playing a quality conference opponent at home is a game we have to win if were serious about a playoff spot down the road. How awesome would it be if we beat the Chargers , then sit back and watch the Broncos take care of business against the Patriots? That would put us a 1/2 game out of first and having already beaten the Pats. I really like our chances in this game. Got the feeling this team will impress us this week.

I'm psyched. Headed out to Buffalo Wild Wings in a bit to watch the game w/ a guy I met there watching the Dolphins. It should be a fun game. Rivers will of course be very tough so we need a good pass rush and the linebackers will have their hands full w/ Gates. No big draw or screen plays given up either. Run the ball down their throats w/ Tanny using his legs as well. Punt team needs some good coverage w/ Fields hopefully continuing to improve and Sturgis sticking it through the uprights.

Chris McCain is inactive. Scifres is awesome and never gets his kicks blocked, but without McCain...takes a little sting out of our punt block unit.
-
I just hope I will be in the other group (rest of the game - celebrate), too. -

Inactive for Chargers: OLB Attaochu, S Addae, CB Verrett, RB Mathews, LB Te'o, CB Crawford, NT Carrethers.
Their DBs look depleted. But of course, I said the same thing last week against Jacksonville. -
