Not confident at all tonight.
While our offence performed somewhat better last week, it wasn’t exactly a hard ask compared to the previous games, and we still lost. Also, 2 important factors have to be considered;
1. Loss of James at RT. While he had been inconsistent he was playing at top 10 level according to PFF. He is being replaced tonight by UFA Jesse Davis, who so far looks like a career back up and utility plug in across the line, and not a very good one at that. Next to him is Bushrod who has been even worse than last year, when he graded out as one of the worse guards in the league. The right side of the line looks like it’s going to be hot trash, perfect compliment to the rest of the line then..
2. Carolina top ranked defence. They are perfectly set to exploit the inadequacies mentioned in 1. And with no running game to speak of, I believe they will sell out to cover our ‘threat’ of dump offs to backs and the short passing/screen plays we will unbotedly have to utilise, especially with no deep threat, again due to problems mentioned in 1.
Great teams scout and scheme very well, and I think that Carolina will do both and take away any possible options we have in the passing game.
So where does that leave us?
We will need the defence to step up and hope that they can score points. Not impossible but our turnover numbers are very poor, and I think that with constant 3 and outs the D will keep it respectable for the half but then be gassed and gashed 2nd half.
Hope I’m wrong as buffalo losing yesterday is an opportunity for us to close the gap on a wild card spot, but realistically this team isn’t getting to, nor will deserve to be in the playoff picture.
Obviously, as a fan, I hope I’m spectacularly wrong. Can’t see it tho fellas.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. I think the defense starts strong and wilts later, while the offense continues to struggle moving the ball. A lot of 3 and outs because of poor pass pro and run blocking from the offensive line. I expect a lot of frustrating plays from the running game of Newton+Stewart+McCaffery.

I would love to see a different team tonight. I'll be watching and hoping for the best. I would have rather we won the Raiders game and lost this one. But I'll take it a W tonight, either way.

I'd say we win. But based on that line, I bet Cutler gets knocked out by halftime.

 

I think we are ranked 16th in regards to blitz percentage.

(Edit: We are tied for 10th with the Ravens and Colts at blitzing on 28% of the plays...The browns llead the league with 46%)

 

We're going to need some pressure from the DL tonight to win this game IMO. Hit Cam enough, he's going to shrivel up mentally and check out. So, pressure him, and make sure you're disciplined enough to not let him scramble. If he does, hit him and hit him hard.

Offensively, it goes without saying, but the OL needs to open up holes in the run game, and the backs need to hit them. That Carolina DL is pretty strong though, so I'd expect our OL to stink, as usual, maybe even more than usual since James is hurt. If Cutler can pick up where he left off against Oakland, we've got a good shot.

I'm not going to predict a win or loss, not my thing... However I think we've definitely got a chance in this one, I wouldn't be surprised if it's another close one either way.

 

how many are Lb blitzes? seems to me we bring jones off the end or someone else all the time very rare LBS take the A gaps

Our line is going to get abused tonight. Did you see what Atlanta did to Dallas? That could happen to our right side tonight.

 

To win tonight we need to fill the upset checklist:

No turnovers on offense
Create at least one turnover
A big play on special teams
A big touchdown play on offense

Do those and we might win

 

I see mcaffrey having a big day look what kamara did to us in the passing game and that was the start of the saints using him more and more and there super affective now.

 

I see mccaffrey and Ed Dickson having huge games going against one of the worst coverage lb's in football, Kiko alonso.

 

Can someone tell me why we traded a ****ing 5th round pick for stephone anthony? Maybe a 7th or a conditional 6th, but a 5th round pick for a guy who cant get on the field?

 

lol. jesus we've beaten our fanbase into submission with how mediocre you can be and still be described as "good offensive production"

 

We're the worst offense in the league. we've scored the least amount of points in the league by 27. how about that?

We've been shut out 2 times in 8 games and scored a meaningless touchdown on the last play of the game against a bad Jets team. Our offense is beyond horrific.
