Damontre Moore? That's a poor pick. He doesn't realize our right side end's role is more that of a 3-4 end b/c we utilize a hybrid OLB, which is why Ansah, Okafor, or Datone Jones make more sense if we're talking about moving Odrick inside. Otherwise, if we want the best pure pass rusher then draft the best pure pass rusher- Carradine.

Wonder if he watched any of Sheldon's games..remind me again why universal draft isn't a viable piece of draft culture..

There are people coming out of the woodwork with mocks daily, and I have never heard of these people.
I'm not saying they aren't credible sports people. A lot of them probably are. It's just amazing how because no one can resist looks ng at a new mock, everyone on the planet wants to put one out to get readers.
I think the guy who trims our hedges on Tuesdays has a mock draft.Fin-Omenal and ToddPhin like this. -
Simon, Richard, Alen and that other guy need to pay rent, and for kids braces... Except in Simon's case as he's in England. -
Jeff Ireland likes to minimize risk in his choices, and if he feels he has an advantage by having info from Damontre's college coach, then Ireland could feel more comfortable taking Damontre than a more 'unknown' prospect.
We may end up with Swope for similar reasons, though Swope is not that good. -
Geno Smith the third QB off the board. Man, what a weak QB draft class.

As to the whole hybrid OLB thing, my question is why have a bigger, non pass rushing hybrid OLB in Misi behind a jumbo LDE in Odrick? Where'e the balance there, the synergy, where is the pass rush? I hold these two things to be self evident: 1. We need better and faster WRs. 2. We need a better pass rush. Personally, I'd love to see a guy like Sean Porter in at OLB and Misi moved to ILB. That would be WAY more synergistic and would provide upgrades as per speed, quickness pass rushing ability. And if they want to draft a better OLB hybrid, Damontree Moore has been one and inherited the joker role from Von Miller iirc.
As to drafting a DE- Okafor is ok but not the fastest guy and Moore has his flaws, but he is an effective edge rusher and he can roam the LOS quite effectively. Is he overrated? That's possible, but he's a good player- the Alabama OL made pretty much everyone look bad, and yes Xavier Nixon played him well. I'm not going to judge Moore based on two of his weaker games- put in Okafor or Ansah against the Alabama OL and I doubt that it would be a pretty picture either. Jarvis Jones fared better than Moore, but even the Alabama TEs took him behind the wood shed for a lot of that game.
In terms of DEs, one school has three of the better ones- FSU. Werner, Carridine and Jenkins as a speed rusher. Mu guess is that we take a cue from Seattle and draft our own version of Bruce Allen to compliment Odrick, who probably isn't going anywhere. Red Bryant/Bruce Irvin- I could live with our version being Jared Odrick/Corey Lemonier, or for even more of a value pick Brandon Jenkins. For the full time DEs who can actually rush the passer, Devon Taylor, Mallicah Goodman and Cornelious Washington.
Somehow in all of this it seems that the OLBs escape responsibility for the pass rush- not fair imo. Odrick does his job and does it pretty well- no he's not Charles Haley, but Koa Misi certainly isn't a top notch pass rusher. Misi and Burnett combined got one more sack than Odrick- not so hot. And also, what if Cameron Wake gets hurt? Then what, the pass rush will come from where? Probably nowhere. Time to get at least one more edge rusher, bottom line. -

Anyway, I do like Damontre Moore- good 1st step, speed, good arc bending (I still don't get that criticism), good pursuit. But the tape does show some concerns, and it does look on film like he's stonewalled quite a bit and he switches to pursuit mode- nice peripheral skill there, , but what he's supposed to show is beating OTs regularly- he has succeeded at that quite a bit but at the same time, yeah, against Alabama, Florida and on some other tape I've seen his performance has been less than ideal.
I'm leaning towards these guys, in terms of talent and value:
Lemonier
Okafor
Taylor
Washington (props to CK)
Goodman
Jenkins
And Carridine is probably the best of the bunch when healthy, might be one heck of a future play with a 2nd rd pick. Werner is a solid pas rusher with an excellent 1st step, probably won't be there at #12. Ditto Jarvis Jones.
I'm looking at Jordan and Buchanan as OLBs, both too lanky and get tied up with college OTs.

My analysis of that Jenkins tape- not thrilling.
Jenkins might be pretty good as a value pick if we do the Seattle Red Bryant/Bruce Irvin thing. Based on the tape I like Jenkins but I don't love him, I prefer Lemonier, better speed and 1st step- he's my edge rusher default guy, I keep going back to him, he's a dynamic pass rusher with good frame for a 4/3 DE and one heck of a pass rusher- could be an OLB, too. Jenkins reminds me a bit of of Okafor- good size for 4/3 DE but not a great 1st step and just not all that fast or dynamic from what I've seen. He doesn't thrill me, but he is pretty good. I'd go with Devin Taylor, Washington or Goodman before Jenkins I think.
Anyway, the points made on this site by you, CK and others regarding Moore are good imo, and he does give pause for concern. Still a good player imo, but some troubling tendencies are there when I watch the film. Then again, I could say the same thing for Dion Jordan and any number of other top prospects, including Jones and Ogletree from Georgia. I haven't studied enough of Luke Joeckel to comment on him, but in terms of solid, complete prospects that are good risks imo- Star Lotulelei, Menelik Watson and I still like Matt Elam quite a bit, Sean Porter as well. I'm trying to find something to not like about Watson and I'm having trouble with that so far, solid as a rock and uber athletcic, fantastic reflexes and movement skills- and a physical beast at the same time.ToddPhin likes this. -
Ireland will be lynched if Patterson is there and he doesn't take him. Not saying he should. Just saying he will be lynched if he doesn't.
