Plan on buying a ps3 tomorrow and was wondering how good my router is for online gaming. I've been on google trying to find out. I've come across some vague posts from other places saying it will work with the gaming consoles but little else. I've read that some routers cause heavy lag.
My cable internet connection is top notch incase that matters. Anyone know if I'm good to go?

There shouldn't be a problem. If there are any, I believe either the Sony site or the Playstation forums can help you to configure the router.
The only routers that cause heavy lag are the truly awful ones. Netgear products are pretty good. I don't think you'll have any problems. -

I have a Netgear router, and have never had a problem. I will have to check my model though, as I'm not sure which one it is (it only cost me like $40 though I know that).

i have a netgear and could never get the ps3 to connect wirelessly so i ran a patch cable to it which i am fortunate i can do.
it had to do with the type of security encryption i had set up, and i didn't want to sacrifice that just so the ps3 could connect. -

i'm pretty sure mine is WPA as well, and i googled the heck out of my issue found others with the same issue with my router, and then got frustrated and gave up.
i run an ethernet hidden from my router to my 360 as well...so i bought a 4 port switch for 15 bucks and that kept me from having to run another wire, and I still have 2 more plugs available in my entertainment center for future stuff...
maybe i will take another crack at it but i can assure you the wii connected in like 10 seconds no problems, yet the ps3 was finnicky as hell -
Just avoid Linksys and PS3 together. I had to do some real annoying crap to get it to stop disconnecting my network everytime I went to the menu screens.
You can google to find out more if your interested ;p -
i had problems with my ps3 and the wireless at first. for some reason i cant run the laptop wireless and the ps3 at the same time or they both disconnect for some reason, never been able to find out why
