Chase. Young.
I don't think I've heard a single dissenting voice arguing that Young isn't the #1 talent in this draft. Not one.
If you're a BPA drafter then by all accounts Young is your pick at #1.
If you're Miami, and picking at #1 do you take Young or your QB choice?
Second question, if the Dolphins take Young, how would you feel about Grier then trading back up in order to ALSO grab a QB high in the draft and under what conditions?
Essentially, would you be okay with a draft where we spend our first, second, and maybe third round picks to get Young and Tua/Burrow/Herbert/Whoeverfloatsyourboat?
Also, I've just realised the young man's name is Chase.
Perfect.

He did that against Wisconsin.. 4 sacks 2 forced fumbles, against one of the best offensive lines in the nation. He is without a doubt the best player and prospect. He is also a leader, he has said he has not been part of a college football playoff yet and hes going to make sure the defense is not the reason why theyre not in it this year (if they dont make it).
just a dominating player that can do it with his hands on the grass or at linebacker.
the fact that our front office pushed hard to grab Clowney makes me think theyll definitely consider Chase Young as their first pick.Fin-O, Unlucky 13 and dolphin25 like this. -
Also he will definitely have a shot at the Heisman. Right now he is the front runner. He is going to close in this season with 20 sacks. The Heisman has historically been a running back/quarterback award, but not this season.
Last Heisman defensive winner was Charles Woodson back in 97. And Woodson played some snaps at wide receiver to get that award so that he can look like the complete package to get those Heisman votes up.dolphin25 likes this. -
Let's just say we beat Pittsburgh tonight. That may crush any soul that team had left and possibly move us into a top 5 pick if they continue down the swirling drain. Assuming that Bengal end up with 1st pick (we still play them) then its Wash, ATL and the Jets. We will play Jets twice to give them a couple wins. We end up in 2nd. Bengals take Tua. We take Chase. We would have to worry about ATL or Wash taking a QB prior to our pick at 5 to take a QB. Total dream scenario but it could happen.

The only way you take Chase Young with the first overall pick is if you project every quarterback in the draft to play no better than the average level in the NFL.

Drafting Chase Young would hasten Brady's retirement and,, make life miserable for the shiny new QBs of the Jest and Bills. That's how you win division titles.

It couldn't have anything to do with the average to below average QB play, could it? Almost as if the QB is the MOST important position on the field....Mexphin, thetylernator and texanphinatic like this. -
The Steelers end with the #2 pick somehow. Doubtful but hey.
In all seriousness, the Texans actually got it right in this regard. Youd better be damn sure if you pass though. The Guy likes this. -
Here's the only way i see us taking Chase Young #1 overall.
#1- We get the top pick in the draft
#2- We actually want Burrows as our QB1
#3- Pitt's pick ends up #3 in the draft
#4- We take Young 1st, let someone else pick Tua, then we take Burrows #3.
That's an absolute dream scenario since Burrows will be there at #3 but Young may not be. I'd get the generational DE first and then settle between whoever drops between Tua and Burrows. I personally want Burrows though...he's more of a complete package in my book. I have a sickening feeling that Tua is a bust. -
Gonna depend on how the FO likes Tua and the other QBs and where the Pitt pick falls mostly.
If we end up with like the 1, 10 and 23? No, we don't pass on our choice of QB.
1, 6 and 18? Maybe more likely. Easier to trade into the 3-4 slot. -

You have to take Chase Young and you still sign a top pass rusher in free agency. Now you got two elite defensive ends rushing at Brady and sending his *** to retirement.
if you draft Chase Young alone, you will be doing a disservice to his development.
look at the monster year Nick Bosa is having in his rookie season.. he wouldnt be having that kind of season if Dee Ford and Arik Armstead were not above average defensive ends..Hooligan likes this. -
The Texans had JJ Watt and Clowney but didn't go anywhere. Now that they appear to have a great QB, even without those defensive players they are in a good place.
So, the QB is most important, but don't reach for one just to take one. -
More broadly, if Cleveland's tank job fails (and they're really the only team in the NFL to have tried a full blown tank job using analytics like for example my Astros did.. who btw are about to win another WS ) that's going to put a damper on teams trying something similar in the NFL for awhile IMO. Other teams will look at Cleveland's experience and question: 1) whether the current state of analytics in football is good enough to rely on for tanking (because you have to draft REALLY well to make it work!), and 2) whether the ability of experts to find the QB you need with the #1 pick (analytics or not) is just too low to justify tanking for the #1 pick (as opposed to say top 5 pick).
That's the real issue here. Tanking can theoretically work and has worked in other sports, but you have to draft well enough for it to succeed, and Cleveland is a live test case which right now doesn't seem to be working.
Anyway, independent of all that, if you KNEW beforehand that Chase Young will become an elite DE and (let's say) Tua will become a consistently above average but not elite QB, there's no question you choose Tua. GM's aren't going to change their general view that the QB is by FAR the most important position player even if Cleveland or Arizona fail. It's just that the certainty Young will be elite is arguably higher than Tua being consistently above average. Still.. even acknowledging that I'd choose Tua. Dolphins already made a mistake choosing Long over Ryan last time we had the #1 pick and we shouldn't do that again.Phins_to_Win likes this. -

I was Tua all day for the longest time, and I still say we need a franchise QB above everything else, but this guy IS the best player in college football and will be the best available player on draft day when we pick number one overall. We have extra first round picks and I am definitely not opposed to taking those picks and moving right back up into the top 5 to get a Quarterback as well. There are 3-4 signal callers in this draft that have a legitimate chance at becoming very good QB's. We have the ammo to draft Young and move back up if we want. It's there, and I think the team should consider doing so. If we don't take Young with the first pick and make him ours, some other team will surely move into the number 2 spot to do so. It would be stupid to pass on his talent unless the team believes strongly in Tua or one of the other QB's. Still....Logic would say, draft Young number one, and then trade right back up to get a QB. It can be done when you have the ammo that we are packing.

Howard with the big play!
LOL, wrong thread. -
I’m torn I want Tua but i also want to have a 49ers Defense clone and go with Chase Young.

We need a QB. Its that simple imo. We are getting outplayed by guys like Mason Rudolph. Fitz is like a lightbulb. When he is on, he shows what our O can be like, but then it goes off again and we sink.
Chase Young is good, but we need a plan at QB and as someone above said, this isnt the spot to get cute.Mexphin likes this. -
We have no pass rush so, guys like Mason Rudolph can pick us apart.

Tua is a product of a superior team around him - witness Alabama crushing Ark 48-7 without Tua.
Chase (great name!) is easily THE best player in college football and is closer to a NFL sure thing than any of the QBs...esp Tua, a NFL bust waiting to happen.
Frankly, Rosen (after this season of mentoring from Fitz) will be a better NFL QB than Tua/Tebow albeit on a different team for his sake.Mexphin likes this. -
Tua has accuracy Tebow never did. I dont know about his mental game though. -
There will always be risk with every draft pick, and QB's especially.
Young is likely a 'safer' pick. But picking Tua couldn't be called a horrible decision, except maybe if he turns out to be injury-prone. Hindsight is 20/20 and with the surgeries he's had people will say it was obvious.cuchulainn and texanphinatic like this. -
I would love to have Chase Young, but we are't in the right situation to do it. Its QB, unless we lock up the 3rd or 4th overall pick and we don't see a real difference or drop off in the 2nd and 3rd QB of the draft(and if we feel that way I will have even more doubts about our FO).
Now packaging up our remaining 2 1st rounders to move up to 2 or 3 to take Chase wouldn't be bad, but my guess is it will take even more draft capital then that, and we have way too many holes to make that move. -
I’m torn on Tua. On one hand, you could plug a lot of QB’s in at Alabama and they’re going to put up big numbers. Don’t love his height. Also back to back years with injuries.
Don’t know enough about Burrow but like what I’ve seen in limited viewing time. I’d like to go Young or Burrow if they think he’s legit. If we need to package some picks with Pittsburgh’s pick to move up and get a QB, I’d be fine with that if it meant we got the best player in this draft. -

IMO, franchise QB and DE/OLB(Young) > Tunsil, Wake, Stills and Minkah. -
I'm not a fan of accumulating draft picks myself, especially later rounds where odds are you'll get a big fat nothing worth it. I'll take proven or high ceiling players all day and move the 3rd, 4th, 5th rounders necessary to do so with the Steelers first. -
I think it comes down to do you think 1 of these QB's is head and shoulders above the rest? If you do and have that conviction about a guy then you have to take him. If you think all these guys are really comparable to each other then you grab Chase 1st overall and your pick of the QB's left with your 2nd 1st round pick.
I have been saying a few times the guy I'm thinking that has the most potential and upside is Jalen Hurts. He is not even being mentioned in with those other guys and he has only recently played his way into the 1st round QB discussion. Meaning he will be there later, most likely.Puka-head likes this. -
