What a mess !
So much for fixing the backup QB position.

I wanted us to go after Marcus Mariota but this is fine.. mariota wouldve been perfect as tuas backup..
-
Meh...He's nowhere near my top choice, but I'm just a fat piece of crap so what do I know?
-
It doesn't matter who the backup quarterback was. If Tua goes down, the Dolphins are done.
This is better than some journeyman 35 year old. Maybe you catch lightning in a bottle with his talent.Tuanon4Life likes this. -
I legitimately do not think that this dude is an NFL caliber player.

He's downright awful. There's no saving him in my opinion. It's true that NFL quarterbacks have a long shelf life, but there's no hope if he ends up starting.

I mean, you ask how much of the Wilson failure was Wilson vs how much was a grossly dysfunctional franchise in the Jests. People saying he's terrible could well be right ... but also likely said the same exact things about Darnold.
As a backup, he's a guy that can potentially win some games and has a high ceiling. Compared to chuds like Tim Boyle it's a home run. Ultimately, if Tua misses a huge chunk of the season it probably doesn't matter who is in that spot.Tuanon4Life likes this. -
Plus, if he's even decent, look how funny that would be and how mad the Jests and their trash fans would be. :chuckle::clap::crapstrom:

It it what it is. If Tua misses half the season again, it probably doesn't matter anyway.resnor and Tuanon4Life like this. -

I'd rather give Wilson a shot rather than a 35 year old scrub at the end of his rope.
I don't necessarily believe this rules out drafting a quarterback either if they really like someone in the mid rounds.texanphinatic and ExplosionsInDaSky like this. -
Adding Wilson is a dart throw in my opinion. You hope to find some untapped potential or rejuvenation for his career, but you also don't necessarily want to be in a position where we have to find out.resnor likes this. -
Terrible move by Grier. We better draft someone or sign someone else. -

If Tua goes down again, so do the Dolphins and so does Grier and McDaniel.
See what you have in Wilson. Maybe he can live up to his draft pedigree with a change of scenery. Payton wanted to resign him but gave him the courtesy to find a better situation. -
And it's not just Foles. You know Brady and Warner were also backups who won SBs. Those two were selected late in the draft or were undrafted. You have to prepare, and sometimes you get lucky. And in many other cases backups hold the fort successfully until the starter comes back in. Can't expect that at all with Wilson. Again, you don't plan on finding the rare exception.
Terrible move. -

Really bad move by Grier. Only way to redeem this is to draft a QB mid-round (or possibly sign another QB better than Wilson). -
-
A better GM would have put us in a situation where we are at least competitive without Tua. And a key part of making sure we're still competitive without Tua is NOT signing Wilson. -

We've done the project rookie. We've done the grizzled vet. We've done the undrafted castoff scrambler.
Let's give the former #2 overall pick a shot. He's won games in this league with half of the talent on this offense.ExplosionsInDaSky likes this. -

And sure we'll see what he does. But until proven otherwise, this is a black mark on Grier's resume.
-
Minshew, Mariota, Mac Jones, Heinicke, Wentz, Rudolph. You're not winning games with either of these guys! -
Personally, I'd draft a mid/low round QB every draft until the coaching staff thinks they have a viable backup that might actually make a good starter. Grier doesn't do that, which is part of the reason we're so unprepared. -
I don't like the Wilson signing, but I also can't definitely say that my personal preferences are any better. Drew Lock, Mariotta, Winston, Wentz, and Taylor Heinicke were the names I liked.
