Very true. Success doesn't happen overnight.....in today's world with all the media and internet forums one bad game turns into the end of the world. Kind sucks, but it is what it is I guess

And the reality is everyone's jaw is made of glass nowadays. I don't understand why people on this forum get so butt-hurt if the Phins get criticized by their fans ESPECIALLY AFTER A PERFORMANCE LIKE THAT. The fact of the matter is anyone who watched all 4 games knows very well(if you're honest with yourself) that we could have very well be 0-4. I understand this is a Dolphins forum but its getting out of hand when the realistic fans are being called out.

 

Dude. Being realistic and just being what almost seems to be bipolar are two different things. I am being realistic when saying the Phins were an embarrassment Monday night. I think everyone was angry as hell and got hit with the reality that this team is teetering on the line of decent and bad. Yes that is the reality. The thing I have a problem with is that most of the people that poke fun at Jets fans for doing the exact same thing are behaving the exact same way.

The season is not over. We still have 12 games to play. If Monday night is an indication of the way we are gonna play from here on out then we are in trouble but I highly doubt we will see that type of performance again. If we do, then I will be the first to eat the crow.

I am gonna to watch a few more games before calling a wasted season or throwing players under the bus.

 

You guys like hearing from Boik. But honestly, people read way too much into 4 games. We started horribly last year and almost made a playoff push. Tell me that we weren't one or two good calls away from winning that Jets game and tell me we weren't a competent ST unit away from running with the Pats. What's really getting out of hand is "realistic" fans insulting, rational fans and providing NO statistical or factual evidence and simply ignoring when someone else tries to reason with them and post actual facts. When someone says the Giants started bad in 07, that's an outlier. Someone says the Chargers never play well in September and October but that doesn't matter. Henne being ranked 14th in the league ahead of McNabb and only having 1 bad game doesn't matter. Henne playing better than last year doesn't matter. The ONLY thing that matters is that it doesn't look right to you and everyone else is just in denial or blind.

 

None of the staff cares if you guys want to criticize but criticize the right people. Heck I encourage it as long as it is done with respect for your board-mates. I had no problem with people tearing down our Special Teams because they have been terrible for the better part of two years now and these last two were especially pathetic. The Punt Block was the same scheme the Jets used to block the punt. The FG block was inexcusable as was the KO return. I mean it looked college-esque and Division 2 quality at that.

But then people go on to criticize Henne and the defense like a young team never had growing pains before. When you have ten "fire Sparano" threads and five more "Parcells Must Die" threads well it kinda gets old and annoying when the people being blamed arent the ones entirely at fault. You win and lose as a team but if youre looking to find fault in one specific area it was the Special Teams as 21 points resulted directly from their malfunctions. If that stuff doesnt happen its a one score game and who knows what happens?

Did Henne have make a handful of bad throws? Yeah no question about it. But I see people railing in this guy like he has no NFL future when hes already shown he does.

I dont know, maybe I have patience to watch a team get built. This team infinitely more talented then the team The Trifecta inherited, collectively theyre one of the youngest teams in the league, and they have a solid future. Rome wasnt built in a day or a year. :wink2:

 

anyone who catergorizes our past digression's and somehow involves that, into the happening's of this particular regime, and time frame, is clueless, or too emotional to think rationally about the dynamics of 1 and 15 2 seasons ago.

Aqua, I understand how tough and irritating it is to watch us lose to the Jets.......... considering the ramifications of ditching a girlfriend for a day. :shifty: Just kiddin my friend. I couldn't resist. LOL.

I'm equally as eager to see us winning again too Aqua. However, we are what we are. We're a very young team with a ton of upside/untapped talent that will continue to improve as our development and consistency improves (where as our past unsuccessful teams had little ceiling left). We have the talent to be a contender, but IMO it's somewhat unfair to expect this young of a team to play as consistently as an experienced team comprised of players who have already taken their lumps. Most of our guys still has some growing pains left to endure....... and IMO there will inevitably be days where enough players endure their growing pains/mistakes simultaneously to where it costs us games. I think it's all up to chance to be honest b/c we don't have enough experience to be consistent yet.

 

When Chris Chambers returns to Miami, A4E04's glass will fill back to half full again.. Until then, we have to deal with Mr. Negativity.

I know it's not an excuse..... but it is a sliver lining to know that we could very well be 4-0 based on offense and defense w/o Special Teams in the equation. The team competition level in the NFL seems to be getting tougher and tougher. The bottom teams are giving top teams a run for their money. It's becoming more and more difficult to see consistent playoff teams IMO...... but I think we have the pieces in place to be one of those teams. The Jets however don't..... and I can't wait to see the day Brady retires!

I do agree with you on all counts. It was an excruciatingly painful thumbscrew to see us lose a Jets game when we were the better team...... and I fully expected us to beat NE before our ST put us in a s#!tty hole. Right there with you on this buddy. It is a disgrace...... but it's a disgrace I can live with b/c I know we're not at our full potential yet. If this were 2 years from now I'd be calling for heads. Lots of them.

I for one am almost glad we lost the 2 games. Maybe it was a way to take 1 step backwards in order to take 2 forward b/c it finally forced us to no longer accept mediocrity (or inferiority) from our Special Teams play. That's my positive spin on it.

We play 4 lackluster PS games with the O and D struggling.
We barely beat the jills, a team in disarray and less talent.
We barely hang on to beat the Vikes, a team that didn't have their starting QB in the fold until the end of TC, is down their #1 WR and their #2 WR has missed a lot of practice due to injury/illness.
We lose to the jests in prime time, come out flat, but admittedly play them tight.
We completely implode against the pasties, a team that is struggling defensively and offensively didn't have 100% effort from their #1 WR. We are embarrassed again on national tv.

Overnight is not what we're talking about here. This isn't about one bad game. This is about how this team has underperformed since...the PS 2009... It's not the end of the world, however to not be able to hold serve at home, in prime time, on national tv is the bottom of the barrel. Can they rebound ?? We'll have to see because the indication from this season so far is that we won't....

 

The point about the internet and such are completely wrong. The times were different and that was the accepted norm. You can't compare different times in sports or life for that matter. Heck, if the internet and video in it's form today had been around in the early 60's, Kennedy would never have been elected, no one would know or care who Lee Harvey Oswald was and Nixon would have served time, not just be impeached. Or if in the 20's and 30's Babe Ruth would have been banished from baseball long before he could have hit many of his homeruns... This is nonsensical to even bring up...

 

Lord, have mercy!!! If you're 22, I've been watching this game, and this team probably since the day your Daddy got his tookus wopped for the first time. I am old enough to be your Grandpa (but I probably would have been in trouble!!)

Now, please understand that is not to disparage your youth. I wish I had some of it... :sigh: [young'uns gettin' all worked up about losing a game!!! :tongue2:] But when you get to where you have a lot more history than future, things take a little different perspective.

Such as, a lot of folks around hereabouts have been tighter than a bull's butt in fly season about losing to the Pats and the Jets - that has happened before, and if you hang around long enough (and I fervently hope you do!!!) it will happen again. Now, we have a rematch with them in this football season (not under the best circumstances, I'll admit) and another ten games to play besides that. As the Great Berra said "it ain't over till it's over!!!"
There's a whole lot of football yet to be played, we just canned the primary person responsible for that reprehensible performance on special teams, we have a young (very young in terms of NFL experience) QB who shows a lot more than a modicum of potential and has demonstrated the ability to grow (granted, we do not know his ultimate yet, but we really don't know our own ultimate at 25!)

on top of that, two years ago we were just coming off of a 1-15 season, and now, we are griping and complaining (not you, but a lot of others) and ready to throw everyone from the Head Coach to the ball boy to the sharks as chum... Now THAT was a reason to have tight butts and flaming boards. This season aint there yet folks...

I think that could create a worse feeling. Let me take you back to 2002 and a 5-1 record. We had a 4th ranked defense (in points) and a 2nd ranked rushing offense (in yards) that year. We finished 9-7 didn't even make the playoffs. EVERYONE wanted Wannstedt gone then. His team won 10 games the following year. We still wanted him gone.

Actually Rev....... He had a couple of good years by the record. He had most fans fooled until some started smelling the stinch of the future. By the time the future was evident, it was all too late. This fan base has not been the same since.

I look at it this way. If this team can field a bunch of 2nd and 3rd year players that THEY picked and we can still find success...........we ain't doing too bad.

 

We've had this discussion in a different thread. Regardless, I think there's an interesting dichotomy developing between the older generation of fans and the younger generation.

Its true, Rev. Your history allows you to have a different perspective on things. But with that history also came an opportunity to witness this organization winning a title. In the case of Aqua and a large group of fellow posters (myself included), we know no success.

When it comes right down to it, this organization has been mediocre to below-average for our entire existence. We've grown up with Dave Wannstedt and Rick Speilman calling the shots.

That's where the frustration comes into play. We thought things would change once Parcells and company came on board, but after bottoming out on Monday night, we find ourselves questioning whether this regime can get us over the hump -- and rightfully so.

I'm not a pessimistic person by nature, but when it comes to the Dolphins -- how can I not be? Forgive me if I'm not the first to hop on-board the positivity train. This organization has to prove it to me first.

 

This board is always full of realists and homers. Both options are fine, it's just that both sides end up disparaging each other.

Case in point, do you remember how many people defended Cameron and argued that he deserved a second season, even if he went 0-16?

game-four was the crucible. what they're doing simply isn't working. drastic changes are the immediate & timely answer to the dilemma, it's time to shake things up. if this season is jettisoned in the name of development or for any excuse whatsoever then Sparano should resign & Henning & Henne should go with him. no more excuses

 

First you get the talent. Then you have them play games together until they get in sync and become good as a team. On the way there, you get a lot of bad performances against teams that are already there. You also get some good ones. With time the good ones outnumber the bad ones. It takes years. What is hard to understand about that?

This.....and on top of that, it came out on EEI yesterday that Randy Moss got traded because they were scared of what was coming down the pipe with him because of the after the Game 1 statments he made, and now the fact that at the halftime of the Pats/Phins game, he called out the QB coach (O'Brein) and then BB came in to calm things down, which lead to Moss and hoodie getting into it...there was chaos going on in that locker room that night, the Pats were literally handing that game to Miami on the silverist(if that is a word) of platters...and Miami comes out and you know the rest.....:pity:

I'm sorry I cant condone mediocrity from my team, I wont sugarcoat it with hope and faith, I go by what I see, I or any other poster who posts valid questions about the team in a negative light shouldnt be looked at as "sky fallers, never played the game, dont know football, go be a det fan" etc and all the other foolish characterizations I have seen on here...you are masking what you dont want to see, and hoping that something happens that potentially may or may not...we dont know, the only thing we can go on is what we see....

I see factual based faults all around, I see that Henning doesnt know what situational playcalling is, I see that they have a superstar WR and dont utilize him the way he should be, I see a RB who has clearly lost a step, and is being outplayed by a 34 yr old, I see that they might as well disolve the TE postion (when it is a viable weapon on successful teams), I see a QB who from day 1 until now, stares down receivers like broads do to me at a bar (:lol: that really isnt the case at all), I see the same boneheaded interceptions when others are wide open, I see preventable mental errors in the form of burnt TO's by the coach, 12-men on the field, and kicking balls out of bounds, I see one of the worst special teams units in football, I see a defense that cant cover the tight end, and cant play the run right now, I see a kicker who cant kick it in the end zone for a touchback, just to name a few......now for the good...

I see Long who is just nails.....Wake, and especially VD have been huge surprises at just how good they are, and where they can go is limitless...they will be special....I see a QB that has shown some good flashes dating back to last year...I see injuries that have made the defense incomplete (not that that is good, but it isnt that they are just bustsouts). Their defense this year hinged on depth of quality linemen rotating in and out, and thats has taken a hit, thus resulting in some of the play....I see they might have nailed the FS question....I see they no longer have the infield dirt for this year...I see they arent getting blown out against what has been a tough schedule so far (the meltdown aside, but I think it is safe to say that doesnt happen very often), I see they have still good core of WR's....on elite, but you can win a championship with them, I see the playoff picture in the AFC is WIDE open...just to name a few....

I see the future is bright, but the future has always been bright in Miami listening to some people....it is time to make the future now...just execute, thats all I expect...good teams do....non-playoff team are inconsistant...you simply are what you are by the play on the field, and not by couldas, wouldas, and shouldas...

 

all I ask is get it done. do whatever it takes to fix the problem, now.

contrary to how some perceive him, I watch him subtly do his part to change the perception of a negative fan base, you just have to read between the lines, open your mind to different ways fans express themselves, and let him be himself..
