Jay Glazer of FOX reports David Garrard was informed he was released, and Luke McCown will start Week One against the Titans. Rookie Blaine Gabbert is the backup to McCown.

Do we make a play for him? I like him better than Moore.

Beat me to it. This is stunning. Cannot believe it. And also can't believe that Luke McCown beat out Gabbert.
I absolutely would sign him and bump Moore down to #3 -
I'd make a play for whoever Jacksonville is playing this weekend. I'll be surprised if the Jags players even get off of the bus for the first few games after a move like this. Ahh, too late, looks like the line was pulled off of the board.
-
Moore is getting paid too much to be a #3 IMO.
-
We don't have a #3 QB.
-
Wow, just stunned. I wonder if Garrard has been acting like a baby since he knows that Gabbert will eventually replace him.
What really sucks is that I just drafted Maurice Jones-Drew last night and now there will be 9 in the box every play. -
Right. And if we signed Garrard we would. Or dump Moore. Who cares.
-
Washington should be buying his house for him as we speak.

Who knows if he'd want to be a backup, but Dolphins should try.
Nah, that will be Oakland. They averaged 46,000 fans last year, lowest in the NFL. Jaguars averaged 63,000. And keeps them in the west.
that was my first thought too. Doesn't fit their system, but they are division title contenders with Garrard as opposed to Kerry Collins.
But, if he doesn't get a starters job, I'd think maybe Pittsburgh? Leftwich is gone and the other backups are crappy versions of Garrard.
As far as Washington, I don't see it. Grossman (as much as it makes me nauseous to admit it) looked pretty darn good in the preseason. they are probably overly optimistic that he can be a quality starter for them.
Yeah, I agree he goes where he will start, do not think he would walk in and start by say week #3 here, Seattle makes sense, SF maybe (they can just cut Smith).
Curious if we make a play if we have the cap room we were rumored to have.

If this had happeneed 3 weeks ago I'd be bringing him in to compete as a starter. As it is, he's an infintely better backup than Moore.
No! No! No!
Did he kick some higherup's dog or something?
Yes.
Blaine Gabbert at #10 overall or whatever it was, if folks recall same happened to Leftwich in 07 or so, Jax is what they are Bro.
On the sirius blitz a caller asked about seattle. Apparently they have full committment to Jackson, so interest will be low. Oakland they thought could work too. Maybe Indy, maybe CIN.
Also mentioned Garrard is in the drivers seat. He's in no rush and can pick the situation he wants, which they speculate will be starter, compete for starter (which is now pretty much over) or wait until that opportunity comes up, but they were certain he will have multiple options.
I think he could help out immediatley in SEA, OAK, SF, INDY (short term).
I think this was also the first time a qb with credentials came up that MIA wasn't talked about. That to me says Henne did have a very good preseason. lol.

Guess they asked him to take a pay cut to sit on the bench and he said F U so they gave him his walking papers.
He was due 8 millie, jags are now 33 millie under the cap per Clayton, what large FU! can they give to their fans?
Sad thing is I always thought the Jags were a good team that were a couple of breaks away from a 07 type of playoff run.
Funny ol world.

I want the current regime to live or die at the end of the season based upon the play of Chad Henne. Give me Henne or give me death. :shifty:

Doesn't matter. They'll eventually still be welcomed with open arms/wallets in the City of (Fallen) Angels!

Sad thing is, they turned stuff around last yr attendance wise, now they are starting Luke McCown and it's "wait till next yr" already?
My goodness more folks at a high school football game at this rate.

No exaggeration bro. David Garrard has a career 85 QBR, an excellent TD/INT ratio and last year finished with a 90.3.
By contrast, here are Matt Moore's career numbers

Garrard is infinitely better. They are not close in either talent or production.
Should I post chad Henne's stats? I presume you know them well and yes, up to this point, David Garrard has been infinitely better than Chad Henne too.

And in a related story, Tim Tebow will be traded from the Broncos to the Jags for a 4th rd pick.
Ok, if we're arguing about the word infinitely, let's change it.
Garrard is alot better than Moore. He's alot better than the previous years versions of Henne too. We'll see what this new version is like.
Well, to me "if" Dan Henning was still the OC then Garrard would make more sense, as he is a cautious Qb who makes good decisions normally, but the fling the ball around the field stuff...not so sure tbh, there are reasons why the Jags cut him and reasons why MJD handles the ball so often.
All I keep hearing is that this is a QB friendly system in which even average QB's (like Henne) will perform better. In that case, as you add a better QB to the system he should be better, no?
Garrard to me is plainly better than Henne, it may not be a huge chasm, but he's better. Therefore he should be even better in this "QB Friendly" system.
Matt Cassell was pretty good in NE's system, but Tom brady was all world, best QB season ever.
Perhaps because he's averaged 4.6 YPC and scored 61 total TDs over his 5 year career. Jones-Drew touches the ball a lot because he's a star and is the Jaguars best player - it is nowhere close to being an indictment of Garrard.
That is nonsense.
