Although I get why MS does this (to save money). Maybe they should spend more time making a console that is dependable instead of you know searching out hackers.
If they put as much effort into fixing the hardware problems as finding hackers maybe everyone who has/gets a 360 won't get the RROD or even better they could work on making a system that is hacking resistant.
In case you can't tell I side with the hackers on this one. :D -

My solution is next time maybe MS should put out a better and even more hacker proof system instead of rushing a system to market for pure profit because as we have seen that can backfire. They do that and hackers and the RROD is not an issue. -

Not trashing M$ because I do prefer the 360 over the other consoles at the moment. However I think they could have handled the RROD issue a little better. -
I think they owe the hackers. If it weren't for the hackers, I doubt the originbal Xbox would have even made it. The Rexbox's ability to handle cool hombrew and the ease of modding it made it sell... Thus getting consoles out there, thus putting them in the console game industry.

There would be more work opportunities though. As they would be more willing to take chances and put out more games if they made more money in the game department. -
And just for annoying me, I'm buying MW2 on PS3 this weekend :)sking29 likes this. -
I think this move will keep people who do not know a lot about hacking away from getting their xbox360s hacked. That is what this report is for. I would guess most of the 1 million banned players will find it an annoyance. It is the people who are not a lost cause, and will not hack in the future.
Hacking hurts gaming and hurts people who are looking for work. Which is fine, if you are fine with that. I am fine with Microsoft banning people because they should protect their interests. Honestly I am fine with people hacking because people do what people do. I just do not agree with the idea that hacking helps the game industry or it is a bad idea for Microsoft or any company to stop it.GridIronKing34 likes this. -
I don't know why but I had to laugh a little when I read that. It must be some sick weird geek sense of humor I have.
Also I am one of the would be hackers that this stopped...well for about a month or so until I get tired of paying for games again. :shifty:mor911 likes this. -

The problem is, for every person like me there are 1,000 others who simply don't buy any music anymore and it is effecting the entire industry and in the long term music fans are going to find it more and more difficult to find new and exciting music. Record labels don't let bands grow up anymore. If your album does poorly they kill your contract. We are seeing now but it will get even worse. The big labels only push and support established acts OR acts that fit into what is selling right now. If people actually bought albums the labels would have more money to invest is bands that need time to grow.
I might offend a few people here but whatever but I'm happy all those people took a hit. In my opinion their accounts should be banned for life. Hell, it's too bad that M$ can't find a way to worm their machines and shut them down all together.
Everyone wants everything to be fantastic and the best. They want their games and music and movies to entertain them and keep getting better but there are a TON of people who don't want to pay for it. Game companies and bands put hours and hours into the product. It costs a lot of money to make entertainment products. If you want something good you should EXPECT to pay for it.
For me it's kind of like voting, if you did not vote then you have zero right to complain about the government. If you did not pay for a CD or played a pirated game you have no right to complain about it or the industry and you have no right to complain when the companies you are stealing from do something to pay you back.dolphan117, Dannyg28, Ultra and 2 others like this. -

Are you talking about this same kind of thing? Just for my information of course since I am still too lazy to mod.
Also I saw you did get MW2 for PS3...awesome. -
that is unique to each box. Haxxors would have to fake number or MAC address (if that's how they're doing it). It just seems very unlikely -
A little stealing is to be expected, given the nature of nerds, but if a million users really stole the game, then your looking at a huge impact to sells. I am a little unclear about this point though. Did MS ban all modded boxes, or only those that used copies of the game? If it was all modded boxes then I can see the anger. -

Looks like the banned XBL users are taking Microsoft to court.

And honestly, I don't blame them. As far as I'm concerned, having a modded 360 isn't against the law. There are a lot of legit players with modded 360s. Unless having your 360 modded is illegal, I can see Microsoft losing this case. Banning proven hackers is just fine, but banning everybody with a modded 360 isn't imo. -
If the people can prove they NEVER connected to Xbox live, they'll win. The problem there is... Xbox live is a what Microsoft used to ban them. So they had to connect. -
Its possible but a total pain in the *** and really not worth it.
Basically what you do is extract the keyvault from an unbanned 360 and inject it into the banned system.
To do this you have to solder a JTAG adapter onto the mobo of both 360's and use XeLL to do the extracting/injecting.
Doing this there is no guarantee that Microsoft wont ban you again and if they do you'll need another unbanned 360 to rip another clean keyvault from.
Like I said...not worth it.
My box also got banned so I traded it off to someone on Craigslist for a soft modded Wii and I honestly couldn't be happier.
Other then Madden and NCAA I really didn't play any games on my 360. None of its exclusive games have excited me since Gears 2. Also I refuse to pay for Live as I rarely play multiplayer so any games I wanted to possibly play online I would buy for the PS3 anyways.
Oh well...Microsoft's loss...now Sony and Nintendo get all of my gaming dollars. -

I had 2 boxes get banned (maybe a 3rd, but it isn't connected to live and the dvd drive is dead anyway).
It's not the XBL (multiplayer) that I like so much, but I enjoy party-chat, arcade, and the game add-ons.
Plus I was already invested with like another year and a half of live left on my account and 6k MS points.
I still bought games on all 3 systems, even before getting banned.
I'm upset about the sunk cost of my pooched 360s (one I got used thankfully), but not that I have to buy most of my games on 360 again.
I'm thankful I have some ECA discounts available at Amazon for 20% off. -

All modders know what they're getting into when they mod. For them to go after Microsoft (imo of course) is selfish and stupid. We know we're stealing from them. We were caught. Get over it and move on.

I know quite a few people out there who have the opinion that downloading games saved them enough money to go buy a new xbox. Mine was banned and I have no problems buying a game if it's a good game. Take Lost Odyessy for example, I bought that because it was a good game and wanted to support the gamers, but the problem is too many ****ty games with too high of price tags come out. To continually spend 60 dollars on crap is just too much. With that said I'm in the "yea i deserved it category". It's my fault, they caught me so I have no right to be pissed. I'm annoyed I can't go on live anymore, but I can still use it for offline games. Either way I'm jumping ship to PS3
