Time to draft his replacement!

We can decide his value after the season
-
Pouncey is a moron to even put this out there with all the cookie jars he's had his hand in the past couple seasons. (Links to Hernandez and the "bullying" scandal).
-
He's looking at what Alex Mack got... 10 million per year..
-
Pay the man! I dont get the debate, he is a great player so we should pay him like one
-
I also would like a new contract from the dolphins

Pay the man with a clause and keep it moving.
-
I don't think you pay him top money unless you've got protections built in.
He's a fine player, but in basically the last year you've exposed multiple issues where Pouncey can plausibly damage his ability to get on the field. Between the Jonathan Martin and Aaron Hernandez issues, you've got to worry about him running afoul of the NFL behavior policy, recreational drug policy, and maybe even the legal system. -
This is really a situation where fans aren't going to be able to make an accurate assessment of Pouncey's value. The Jon Martin stuff isn't concerning to me, but there are a lot of other issues surrounding him that we have no idea about. Drugs, criminal enterprise, etc. Really the organization is going to have a lot more information we aren't privy to.
-
He's probably hoping to cash in quickly before anything else negative about him comes out.
From our point of view there is no need at all to give him a new contract at the moment, unless you (think you) know enough to be comfortable with the background stuff and want to try to get him at a slight discount because of it. -
-
Put yourself in his place. His rookie contract is expiring .He is looking for the next step in an NFL players career . The first big payday. His first real veteran contract. Is he really worth it .Thats for the team to decide .You either keep drafting Cs every three years or you stick with one that has made the all pro team and who gives you stability. This is a business after all and if the Dolphins wont pay him another team will .

Lets see a) how he plays this season and b) how much trouble he may or may not be in trouble with the league first...then we can talk extensions...
-
This is a story because A) he's a top center, B) his name keeps popping up around illegal activities which include guns and drugs, C) he's a Miami Dolphin.
"Did you go over to Pouncey's? Good because that Sh** is crazy."
That's the story.gunn34 likes this. -
Based on the fact Philbin was okay with the Dolphins trading Vontae Davis, not bringing back, Long, Dansby, and Bush after the 2012 season, I can easily see him going along with not signing Pouncey to a new contract now or even after the 2014 season. Pouncey was one of the players involved in the Martin situation and he showed his immaturity when he wore the "Free Hernandez" tee shirt.
Pouncey may be a very good center, but based on the type of "character" players Philbin seems to want on this team. It won't surprise me in the least if Pouncey is allowed to enter into free agency and signs with another team after this coming season is completed. -
I'm sure JJ Watt, Julio Jones, etc want a contract extension too. Where's their article?
Aldon Smith has had problems. He's a top player. Where's his story? -
JJ Watt and Julio Jones hasn't been involved with an accused murderer nor been portrayed with being the Eazy-E of their team.
Aldon Smith was a huge story. Where have you been?
and here are a bunch of stories about the non-story that is Aldon Smith

not until the shrink says you're no longer insane in the membrane Mikey.

and even if not, it shows he definitely has a higher chance of going down that road. -

If there are huge red flags, then we have some leverage to threaten letting him walk and releasing the information. Not to mention the team option and franchise tag. If you can scare him into $7 million per year then it's worth a shot, but this is not the time he gets extended. He gets extended, if at all, next off season before the negotiating window closes.

His red flags concern me less. None of these guys are saints. I'm more concerned with his inability to block in short yardage situations.

This is where hockey earns his money. Pouncy wants to understandably secure a deal he should be offered a solid contract for a reasonable price. If he wants a big payday then he needs to play this season under his current contract and have a pro bowl season.
-
I'm not impressed with him to tell the truth. I'd try to trade him, but fear too many teams will not be interested because of his baggage.
