So says Jay Glazer......nearly a week later??
Sorry but I'm skeptical. In the photo Ryan doesn't have the expression of someone who has just been spit on or at. Nor does it make sense to wait several days to speak up about it.
Not to mention the story contradicts itself. The headline states he was spit ON. While the article states he was spit ATcalphin, LandShark13, Pagan and 3 others like this. -

You mean Glazer the long time NY journalist?
Wow, surprising that a NY journalist comes out a week after this incident with a story making Jabba the Rex a victim here rather than the much more likely scenario that he was just being his usual pompous and antogonizing self.

If they would have came forward with this from day one, Ryan would have saved Tannenbaum from the position of having absolutely no excuse to buffer his behavior against in his team's public statement, himself from likely having to shell out fifty grand in fines, and the embarrassment of being castigated a dimwitted moron by his team, his peers, and the league as a whole.
It consequently would have left greater Dolphandom reeling with shame, but now, nearly a week later, rings sheepishly hollow, and synonymous to a faint whine. All things considered, if factual, this would have been made known from day one. -
I don't believe it for a second.

I don't doubt it for a second.
Is it really that hard to believe?dolfan7171, NJFINSFAN1, dolphindebby and 5 others like this. -
Spitting on Rex Ryan makes sense to me. He ain't worth wasting dumping a beer on.

He was not spit on.
Jay Glazer is lying.
he was on the LeBatard show and told the story early this week. he said the fans were calling him a "fat ****."
He never mentioned spitting.

What a great rivalry that is brewing, as if the Dolphins v Jest intensity could be jacked up any higher.

He was probably trying to eat them. They had to defend themselves, so they spit on him.

Yeah it is.
As big as Rex's mouth is he would have been screaming this off the top of every media rooftop. This was contrived by him and his NY media buddy. It's clear as day.
Also when someone goes out of their way to be a villain and revel in that role he can't expect anything less than increased hostility by opposing fan bases.
So even if he was spit on, it's his own doing.LandShark13 and jetssuck like this. -

Come to think of it, it is possible. I mean, would a guy Rex's size even feel if someone spit on him?jetssuck likes this. -

ummmm I would expect that to happen, good job fans good job....that dude shows no respect to anybody or anything from Miami, and expects to go down there, and be the King Pin.....nope......
Lets reverse it, and Tony goes to NY or NJ for that type of an event, and talk a bunch of bs about how they are going roll the Jets 2x....what do u think would happen....?? -
-
**** him, I would of spit on his *** to.
-
Glazer its' super bowl week and this is what your story is about. Good job buddy.
He's grasping for a story like Rex Ryan grasps for straws in a milkshake shoppe. -
I find it hard to believe, you cant spit on Rex Ryan, the saliva molecules would simply orbit around him.
Dolfan330, late again and Pagan like this. -
It's also possible Rex didn't notice it amongst his own gobs of drool.

This is just a lie to try and lessen the amount the league fines him.
-
No way Rex accepts a $50k fine by his owner and without bringing this up. It's a plausible story by itself, but a week later, after he's been fined, the pic, etc make it all look like damage control.
TotoreMexico and late again like this. -
However, the reasons for my doubt are:
1. The timing. Why didn't Glazer speak up when it was first reported. After Bud Adams was fined a 1/4 of a mill for flipping the bird to Bills fans, most knew some sort of penalty was forthcoming. If it was true why not step up right after Ryan apologized and mention it then?
2. How can anyone have such an amused look on his face after being spit on? -
-
So many good lines in this thread, guys crack me up.
-
Well. . . He is fat. That's for sure. -
1. Don't come to miami and expect to be treated nicely. You're the coach of a division rival in the biggest sport in america. Bill Belicheck doesn't go to madison square garden and expect hugs and kisses.
2. You're paid millions to be a coach. You put up with whatever the hell anyone has to say to you because you are very well paid to do that.
3. You're fat.Frumundah Finnatic likes this. -
This is disrespectful, and totally uncalled for. No one should be spit on. If we as proud Dolphin fans do this we are just falling to the level of no class, the same lack of class that we truly despise and hate.

in the spitters defense the guy probly hasn't seen a beached whale so inland before and was doing anything he could to get water on the creature long enough for p.i.t.a to rescue it.

I call bull****
A drunk dolphin fan!!
At a MMA event!!No way would they spit....wait a minute. -
I heard he eats them straight from the ice cream scooper. -
There are good fans, and bad fans, on both sides. We just have many more good ones. That does not excuse, in any way, the bad ones on our behalf.
Ryan can take his finger and shove it but, I would have done the same, and worse, if situations were reversed. -
I would hope that as a Dolphin fan, I would never stoop so low as to cuss or act like an idiot like this.
I am truly a fanatic, but I would never want to be known as an "obnoxious" fan. I love yelling etc. but I would not be rude to the opposing fans around me. Sometimes it's better to just shut up, than add to the problem.
Ryan is a coach, he should know better than to act like an idiot.
I think that's the reason I enjoyed the Atlanta game, there was fun in the good natured dissing, but no meaness.Fin Fan In Cali and LandShark13 like this. -
- Why didn't he mention anything about this when the image came out? Any normal person when confronted with that image going public would tell his/her side of the story immediately.
- The look on his face when he shot the the fans the finger was that of a lush having a good time with zero hint of anger.
- We have pics of him shooting the bird and yet non of the spitting?
If you ask me this is just a way of covering his arse and trying to save some face with the league. I'm in no way buying his cover up story and hope the league fines him as well. -
And to me, he looks about half lit in the pic. Which is still no excuse for what he did.
If some one spit on me, you bet, they would know it right then one way or the other. I wouldn't wait to call them on it. -
Sorry guys, I have to agree with the beached whale and P.E.T.A. theory on this one. If someone were to spit on him for real, I don't think he would have the same expression on his face.
-
And money doesn't trump that piece of legislation.
