Can't decide if this good for us or not

Cousins is a better QB than RGIII, IMO. So, I think it makes them a better team and gives the Redskins a better chance against us.
Either way, I'm still expecting us to win convincingly. They don't look like a good team to me. I think they're going to struggle.Sceeto, Sumlit, Phins_Fan_87 and 2 others like this. -

I'd rather face RG III than Cousins. Their OL would be sieve-like if RG III were in there. Cousins is better.
We should win. But, I don't think Miami has looked dominant against mid-level competition so far. And, it's the NFL where "on any given Sunday ..." so I don't think it's a slam dunk. -
I'd rather face Cousins than RG3 personally. Mobile quarterbacks have never been our friend anyways.
-
This actually improves Washington's offense. I imagine Jay Gruden likely sees this as his shot at replacing Griffin permanently in the eyes of Snyder.
I won't be surprised if their OL magically begins blocking better.Larry Little, PhinFan1968 and rafael like this. -
They needa trade RG3 to Houston already... that guy has suffered enough abuse from his own coach that doesn't even like him.

To me, either way that matchup favors us, our Dline v their OL

On the topic of teams we expect to beat...did anyone catch the Jags/Lions game last night? Bortles is looking quite sharp. That's going to be a tougher game than we're thinking. Let's remember our offense struggled a bit against the Jags last season. Had the defense not scored 2 TDs, the offense easily could've let us all down in a dumb loss. Miami's on the road again this year.
The Jags, imo, are the sleeper team in the first 6 games. I'm not worried about the Texans or Jets nearly as much as I am the Jags. -
If Albert is not ready I expect to see more aggression from opposing defenses. The run game will be especially important early on, avoiding negative plays and giving Suh and Co time to take control, create field position, turnovers, etc. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see some of these supposedly easy games go deep into the 2nd half.
When Albert is 100% then we can talk about overwhelming teams with aggressive pass heavy game plans. In the meantime stay relatively conservative and let the defense gradually take over the games, especially with the slew of sub oar QBs in the first part of the schedule. -
I dont believe any week is a 'gimme' game but this might be as close to a 'gimme' as you can get. Their horrid OL vs our stout DL, their weak secondary vs all our weapons, their weak pass rush with the loss of Orakpo to TEN and Gallette out for year, all they have is pot roast and kerrigan vs our sketchy OL. Even though its any given Sunday, I expect us to thump WAS 42-7. (Late game TD for WAS). WAS might end up the worse team in NFL this season.

Yep that crowd is going to be roaring and that team will be fired up. The first three weeks of the NFL is the wildest. Anything can happen. Look at the Browns great start last year..
-
Washington will be lucky to win 4 games this year. Whoever the qb is won't matter.

After watching Miami's 4 dominant the **** out of Atlanta and beating Matt Ryan to a pulp, there's no rational reason for Gruden to start RGIII week 1, unless he wants him to die.

Cousins is terrible. RG3 is terrible, but at least he has the potential to be awesome.
I'd take Cousins any day.shamegame13 likes this. -
Living in the DC area I hear a lot about skins from fans and local media. From everything I read, see and hear Jay Gruden is just a real idiot of a head coach. If Miami loses to them week 1, start the death clock on Philbin.
-
This should be a 21 point, backups in to start the 4th quarter, cake walk. If it's even close we should be concerned. If we lose, I'd fire Philbin on the walk into the locker room.

I'm going to be nervous if only because scrub QBs have given us trouble and even beaten us.
In a way it's a good test to see if the Dolphins have finally changed for the better.padre31 likes this. -
I think this is good. Not that it would make much of a difference if we had to play RG3, but we seem to have some trouble when facing mobile QB's. This defense is perfectly geared torwards pocket QB's.
Either way, I think we win this game big, but RG3 would be a little (emphasis on little) worse for us, IMO.shamegame13 likes this. -
our wr's against their secondary is gonna be ugly, jeeks did they look bad against ravens

After watching the Ravens/Skins preseason game, Cousins being in at QB doesn't concern me any more than RGIII being there did. Their team is not good. If we can't beat them, we can't beat anyone.

for me the issue is having a team come together and play much harder for one qb than they would for the other, if that oline and team truly cant stand rg3 like weve been hearing, making the switch will make them all step up their intensity..i honestly dont think that oline cares what happens to rg3 back there, and I dont think that coach wants him to be their qb..so i would guess this makes the game a tougher challenge.

"It is becoming increasingly apparent that Griffin has lost his starting quarterback job, and depending on the events and conversations in the coming days, possibly his roster spot. Outside of ownership, there has been a groundswell of support from a strong segment of football people within the organization to change quarterbacks, but there is a question about whether they have the authority to part ways with Griffin, sources said."
"High-ranking Washington Redskins front-office officials and coaches want to part ways with quarterback Robert Griffin III, but are meeting resistance from team ownership, according to team and league sources.
The Redskins even have had trade conversations about Griffin with a handful of NFL teams, but have found no interest, and it remains unclear whether ownership would allow Washington to trade him, sources said."
"Even if ownership prevails and convinces the Redskins' front office to keep Griffin, he is not expected to hold on to his starting quarterback job. The Redskins are determined to start a different quarterback on opening day against the Miami Dolphins, and Griffin's time as the starter now appears over. The more significant question is whether his time in Washington is as well."

Sounds like there is a lot of politics and gamesmanship with the Redskins organization, including among those the football staff which is good for us. We're probably as far away as Pluto is on their radar.

The Skins are headed for a top 3 pick and a new coaching staff. The GM is new, doesn't want RGIII and I doubt Gruden as well. If our coaching staff can't get us ready for this game then we are in for a rough season.
I'm going to see the game in person so I"m really excited about that. Can't wait to see that Dline and Tannehill.padre31 likes this. -

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if RG3 were a TC cut. My understanding is that he's due to make $16 mill which would become guaranteed if he's on the roster through game 1 or if he's injured. That's a lot to pay for a guy most of the coaches and GM don't seem to want on the team. If the owner wasn't in his corner I assume he'd already be gone. Owner has to decide if he trusts the GM he just hired and his coach or the guy he thought would be his franchise QB.
