On his Monday show on WQAM he said he would like to play for 2 more years with the Dolphins.
If the Dolphins do sign him again for a year or 2, he will pass Csonka's rushing record, he started the season a little over 900 yards behind or so, and now has 668 yards, 4.4 YPC.
Also, it would leave just the Main RB spot open if they sign him quickly. I don't know if they'll sign Ronnie or find someone younger, but one thing working in Ronnie's favor is that Starting Quarterback should be Dolphins priority this offseason, and even the O-Line ahead of running back.

Keep Ricky Drop Ronnie
Ricky can still run despite his age -
Thats obvious to most of us. But watch how much heat you catch from some posters who REFUSE to see it,or readily admit it for that matter .Get ready, this should be fun. :hi5:
Oh,and I wouldnt mind Ricky staying,he seems to have some gas left in the tank.DolfanJake likes this. -
Much more inclined to keep Ronnie if it's for the same $ amount. I think it's time to part ways with Ricky personally. The two backs are too similar, we need a change of pace back and a third down back perhaps all wrapped in the same uniform. I don't know that Ronnie is a third down back anymore. Ricky never was.
-
As for Ricky he should stay. The price will be right and he obviously wants to be here. You have to have two these days and we will be saying no to one of them. Ronnie is going to want more money than we are willing to spend and the tag makes no sense at this point. Time to move on and draft a running back. Ronnie will test the market and someone will overpay him. Ricky still has something to offer here. If we bring in the proper offensive scheme to utilize Ricky catching the ball out of the backfield he would make one hell of a third down back and a nice spell on for an every down back on 1st and 2nd down as well.Moves, Coral Reefer, brandon27 and 5 others like this. -

No thanks, I want us to start fresh in the backfield next season.

I think both Ricky and Ronnie have positives about them. Ricky runs harder but Ronnie is more versatile and younger.
I'd be interested in keeping one; guess it just depends which one would take less money to stay. Both have publicly revealed now that they want to stay, but I don't see both taking huge pay cuts. We might actually have to keep both around if we can't address RB in the draft as I don't think there will be a whole lot of value at RB in FA. What little there will be out there will surely be overvalued by the high-bidders. Also I wouldn't ask Ricky to carry the load alone for a full year; I genuinely think 2009 was the last time he'll be able to carry the load like that at his age. Ronnie is too fragile to run an entire year by himself, so unless we spend our #1 pick on a RB, we'll still need two RB's next year. -

Also not fair to say Ronnie is better than Ricky right now. Ronnie has had 3.7 yards/carry compared to Ricky's 4.4: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/mia/2010.htm :beer:late again likes this. -
I'd be surprised if Ronnie wanted to take a role as a backup and a paycut at 29. Ricky has made a fine 2nd RB and has a lot left because of it. His contract will be easier and most likely cheaper than Ronnie's as well. Plus, he wants to play for the Dolphins and is a fan favorite whose been here for a while, the fans aren't exactly warm to this regime right now and discarding him like with JT when Ricky is still productive will hurt them in fans eyes even more.

Ok I just went back and looked at their production levels here. Ricky actually outgained Ronnie in yards per carry this year and last year (with consideration going to Ronnie's injury, Ricky still averaged 4.7 ypc and Ronnie averaged 4.4). Back in 2008 Ronnie did have more yards per carry than Ricky, 4.3 to 4.1. Prior to that, 2005 was the only other year they played together; they both rushed for 4.4 yards/carry that year.
Looking at their body of work since Ronnie has been here, Ricky has been a better pure runner, cumulatively. If we can't agree on that, we should be able to agree that Ricky has had a better last two years here than Ronnie has). FWIW I'm not advocating getting rid of Ronnie - just wanted to make sure the air was clear here on exactly how the two have performed for us.
It should be pointed out that Ronnie has shown a noticeable dip in form since his injury last year as he has posted his lowest career ypc average in 2010: 3.7 ypc. I would blame it on the o-line's poor performance this year, but Ricky has still managed to stay above 4 yards per carry with the same line. I take age into consideration, but performance always trumps age. Would you rather have Derrick Mason or Darrius Heyward-Bey? Ricky has been so stellar for us he hasn't dipped below 4 yards per carry here since 2003 (in 4 seasons of action during that time).
My official position is I'd take both back at reduced salaries. I don't think we have enough picks to address RB this year unless a nice one falls in our lap somehow. If that happens, obviously this changes things. Either way we still need to keep one of them. :up:Dolphins1Beatles likes this. -
Ricky has some of the best vision of any Rb to ever play the game. But he is getting old and most definitely has lost a step. Not sure if he is going to be effective much longer in a league that is brutal on Running Backs.
Ronnie, well, he did not have a good year at all. Not sure if he's worth bringing back either but his age should tell us, he might be the better one to keep. He MAY need an offseason to totally heal, and get some confidence back.
So it's take a chance that an aging Ricky or a chance on Ronnie getting back to his normal bruising style? Tough tough call but if they kept Ronnie, they could go after a more explosive Runner and still have a bruiser.
Myself? I'd like to start new but Ronnie has been one of my favorite Dolphins to watch the last few years...ToddsPhins, Stitches, Den54 and 1 other person like this. -
Keep Ricky and say goodbye to Ronnie. Ricky is clearly, even at his age, better than Ronnie Brown. I've said it all along. He's a much more complete back. Get a young guy to replace Ronnie and to share the load with RW. Ricky still runs hard and he still has good quickness to the holes (when our o-line can make one). Ronnie still dances and tip toes. And you certainly can't be dancing in the NFL - especially behind a line that has played so poorly.

I stand corrected...
OK.. so Ronnie is not "always" hurt. He is hurt far too frequently to be depended on... Is that better?Paul 13 likes this. -
You don't get rid of productive players just for no reason.
Ricky Williams is not going to ask for an unrealistic contract.
He's still productive.
We will have some vet RB(s) on the roster.
Would you rather cut Ricky and keep players like Cobb or Hilliard?Dolphins1Beatles likes this. -
That being said... Ricky is a tough situation. I'd rather keep Ronnie because he's younger, but his injuries are a concern. Ricky is much older, might have two years left, but thats tough to tell. If a big priority of this regime is to draft a young, explosive running back, then I'd part ways with Ricky, keep Ronnie to go with our new back. It's a tougher call than it looks really.Killerphins likes this. -
It's disgusting how the rushing offense has gone from #4 in the NFL last year down to #20 this year, from #10 to an inexcusable #29 in yards per carry. Almost as bad as the dreaded backfield of Travis Minor and Sammy Morris in 2004.
I would love to see Ricky back, a player many of us want to root for and has proven to defy age. And although he is not a typical vocal veteran leader face of the franchise, Ricky is one of the few veteran players on a very young team.
No matter who is running for us next year, they need an interior O-line that gives them a freaking chance. -
Ronnie was healthy all year.....funny how Ronnie Brown can go from being the most dangerous offensive player in the AFC (named so by ESPN last year the week before he got hurt) to a year later when half the people on this forum say he sucks :pity:
It's not his fault our OL sucked all year at the run game. Plus the fact that we didn't have any deep passing game all year either. Give him the ball and some blocks and 9 of 10 times he'll make the play. Both Rick 4.4 and Ronnie 3.7 are averaging near 4 YPC. The fact that Ronnie has been stuffed in the backfield numerous times in the wildcat has really killed his YPC. He would likely be over 5 YPC without all the busted plays from the wildcat.
I think I saw someone on here say that Williams is a better all around back....seriously???? WTF!! I wanna know what games you've been watching the past few yearsPaul 13 likes this. -
I dont have the right to post what I feel? Since when.? Theres more" Henne sucks" threads in this forum then fish in the ocean. You know how many I started? How about NONE. I never posted anything out of fear that others might not agree with me. They`re intitled to their opinions,so am I. -

I might rather have Tolbert or Michael Bush as our power back. I don't trust not knowing when Ricky is gonna hit the wall, bc it could be soon..... or in the middle of a playoff run.
-
That being said, for the sake of staying on topic, I dont think Ricky has enough gas in the tank to be productive for 2 full seasons still.RGF and ToddsPhins like this. -
I believe he will play another year for Miami & break the record

I ask because there really is no such thing.
Even when bringing in a rookie, no matter how highly touted you still need Veteran backup at the least.
Usually that rookie will be in tandem with the vet.
Do you really expect us to purge our roster of RB's and rely on all FA's or drafting Multiple RB's?
If you expect FA's don't you have to first figure out if there is a more talented RB than Ricky to fill his spot before deciding to simply "start fresh".
It's not as simple as blinking your eyes, clicking your heals and wishing talented replacements.
There's no way we get rid of both Ricky and Ronnie next year.ToddsPhins likes this. -
I'm not sure who you prefer to keep, but I have a difficult time not seeing the Man of the Year earn another contract when he'll probably play for less money.
I want Ronnie and Bradshaw with a nice COP back later in the draft like the burner, Derrick Locke.
