Ross - Dolphins aren't going anywhere / Guys let’s make some moves, it’s time to win

BumrushsubscriberOPGood article on Ross and the direction of the franchise. I'm normally fully opposed to these types of public funding initiatives but I support this 100% now.
“Having been brought up in South Florida and loving the Dolphins I would find that very hard to do,” Ross said. “I mean, some times when you’re dealing with adversity and people are giving you a hard time you say, ‘Hey I’m not bound to stay here.’ But really I’m not threatening anybody. The Dolphins belong in South Florida and they are going to stay in South Florida?”
That’s good news for Dolphins fans, but perhaps bad news for the effort to get Dolphins and non-Dolphins fans alike to support the effort to raise local hotel taxes by one percent. Ross obviously believes they should.
“I bought the team because I wanted to win,” Ross said. “I’ve always listened. I don’t go out there and say I want this guy I want that guy. You listen to your football people. They thought this was the time, and they put a great plan together and I’ve encouraged them. I said, ‘Guys let’s make some moves, it’s time to win.’ I think the results you’ve seen. You could see from the interviews, from the free agents that we have kept and signed and the new ones of how they felt about Miami. It’s kind of like a new beginning if you will and it makes it somewhat exciting.”
Regardless of your feelings on the man, you have to give him credit for trying, especially in the face of some unfortunate luck and circumstance after he took over this team in 2009. Namely, Sparano, Henne and Parcells and his easy bailout contract that Wayne masterfully drew up while planning his departure from the team.

Agreed but it'll never happen. Hes not using 25% of his net worth for a new billion dollar stadium. Guys like him view sports teams as a financial investment where as we view it as an emotional one.

Stop freeloading?
As Ross said, he's the only NFL franchise and only team in the state of Florida to pay full real estate taxes.
I'm not saying Ross isn't trying to get some burden lifted off himself (or that he doesn't already), but there's no cause to accuse him of freeloading.

Let's stop pretending that the city doesn't benefit from having the Dolphins and the stadium too. It is in Ross' and the City's best interest to renovate the stadium. Ross should certainly shoulder the majority of the cost though.

Then I tell him to piss up a rope and finance it himself. He can jump up and down about "selling or moving the team" all he wants, Goodell would snuff out the deal before it was made and force him to sell the team.

Too bad the proposed tax (as far as I understand it) would be paid for through hotel patrons, the vast majority of which aren't the local taxpayers.

San Diego community like he said declined to help finance, they nonos get a Super Bowl anymore..
You also have to the think strongly about world class events, the city of Miami is so multicultural that other countries would love to hold events in a world class stadium..the city will lose more just because of some grandstanding bs by the community.

maynardNew MemberI don't think the economic impact is always positive in a typical stadium, but Miami is a location where you can really make a case for it. Super Bowls really do inject money all around the potential to host a World Cup would be big as well
The Marlins situation is criminal imo (with all parties involved including the lenders. That kind of bond should be illegal.) But Ross is being upfront. I don't think Ross sees the Dolphins as his toy. I think he wants to make a mark on the area

VanDolPhansubscriberDon't mind unifiedtheory. He`s still smarting over the government cost of upgrading B.C. place. What was it now...$400 million they put in for that upgrade?
Hell here in Hamilton were paying $160 million for what looks like a high school football stadium for the Tiger Cats.
So in the scheme of things...Miami's getting off light compared to most territories.

While I didn't ever think Ross would threaten to move the team for funding even if he did it wouldn't work.
The Phins are one of the safest franchises in the entire league when it comes to stability of location.
The NFL would NEVER want nor allow itself to be out of Miami or the S. FL. market.
People that have brought up the Phins moving in the past as being a real threat are delusional.

do you not think this could be a damaging blow to our already deterioting culture, if the city has a bit of vested interest they might get a feeling of support for them to do well, more of a connection.?
