Wallace and Bowe both seem to suffer from lapses in concentration and can get easily distracted.

I'll take Greg Jennings, who knows the coach, knows the system, and is a natural fit for what we are trying to establish in the locker room.

 

Of the 3 I'd sure hope he'd be paid the least.

I can't see us not drafting at least 1 WR on the first day either way.

 

I think you really may be able to get a nice "deal" on Bowe. Production has decreased the last couple of years it seems like, but so has their QB talent. Downside he comes with reported character issues? Jennings would be an obvious target, familiar with the offense and coaching staff, I think you have to put Keller in there as well. IMO we have to get one of them though, we are going to have to pay for it, but what else can you do? With the rookie pay structure in place it gives you more of a chance to spend more money on key pieces through FA.

 

I think it's by far and away Greg Jennings.

Mike Wallace fits the profile of being productive without being a target hog, but I'm not sure if he runs enough of a route tree to be worth the money for Miami.

I'd be pretty shocked if they were interested in Bowe.

 

Jennings with Hartline, Bess, Matthews and a high draft pick wideout cures a lot of ills in my opinion.

I also think it would be best to try to solve the tight end issue through free agency. Keller's pass catching would be a nice dual threat with Fasano's overall abilities.

 

I think Jennings is the most likely and probably the safest choice. He is still one of the best WRs in the game and should continue to be for a few more years. I like Mike Wallace a lot though. Apparently more than many around here. I just think he is the type of game breaker this team could really use and doesn't need a ton of targets to give you big production. For me, if you then go draft a guy like Stedman Bailey you then a really well rounded, talented WR corps that can beat you at every level. Bowe would be a distant 3rd on my list and I might prefer them to trade for someone, but if you don't get Wallace or Jennings and can't trade for someone better, then I think you have to get Bowe. He is a go to target that will give you some of the same things Brandon Marshall gave you, but will probably be a bigger threat in the red zone.

I just hope these rumors are correct and the Dolphins do truly make getting a veteran #1 WR a priority.

^^ This, if he's healthy. And he'd probably come at a better price following his 2012 season. Jennings would far and away be the veteran presence I'd want at receiver to help develop the young guys, of which I'd still draft 2.

If Jennings' health looks like a question mark, I'd pursue Wallace as IMO his speed & vertical threat ability would be harder to replace or duplicate in the draft.

 

In what way does Wallace suffer from concentration lapses? 6 drops in 116 targets does not seem especially bad.

 

Wallace, Jennings, Bowe is my pick. But Wallace and Jennings are really close, with Bowe a distant 3.

I just hope we don't sign a premier WR and then ignore it in the draft. Wait, looking back at Ireland's draft history maybe it's better we ignore it in the draft ...

 

Jennings missed 8 games in 2011 and 2 in 2012. He was also very unproductive in 2012. Wallace is 3 years younger, never been hurt that I can recall, and has rare speed. Never heard of any reported character issues. I don't buy the argument that he is only capable of running a limited number of routes. Wallace would be my #1 choice.

 

I'm starting to suspect that Jennings' best days may be behind him, though that could just be a side effect of his injuries this year. To contrast, Bowe seems like his best days are either in front of him or he's entering them now. And I'm cooling down on Wallace, just because he seems to be a one trick pony.

Of course, I could be wrong on Jennings, and he does fit the scheme.

well jennings was the first time really healthy last sunday and he kicked my butt in my fantasy bowl final, he looked very good to me, a man can dream just get both jennings and wallace and for the heck of it another high draft pick on a wr

 

For as much as BM drove people nuts w his drops I can't even imagine how annoyed this fanbase would be w Finley and his brickhands.

 

I wouldn't mind either one. I would prefer Wallace or Jennings.

At the price the Lions pay Calvin Johnson we could have Wallace, Jennings, and Finley combined.

 

It wouldn't be the most ideal fit to our current offensive scheme, but could you imagine the offensive speed and big play ability we'd have with Wallace, Bailey, Wheaton, Finley, Jordan Reed, and Bush/Miller? :lol: That'd be dizzying. Almost worthy of making happen and then altering the scheme to fit 'em.

Jared Cook or Dustin Keller, yes. Finley, hell no!!! But... none of them are the TE equivalent of someone like Wallace at WR. If pursuing and signing Wallace means we just resign Fasano, then I'm ok with that.

 

I've heard that, yet see him do well running routes other than go routes too. So, I do not buy the one trick pony thing.

 

We need to beat New England once if not twice a season. They are our nemesis and standard. They score. We've tried long enough to stop them on Defense. Days of Jason Taylor, Zach, Madison, Surtain are gone. We can't match up to them with our Defense anymore. It's about time we switched. Grabbing one of those WRs is a start. We've got to start scoring. Success starts with winning the East. Pats are our benchmark. Start loading up on good WRs and a pass catching WR. Time for a change in our psyche.

 

The Cardinals are probably rebuilding with a new FO and HC. With both Rod Graves and Ken Whisenhunt fired, maybe the new regime wants to start anew, and with Fitzgerald's $120M contract, maybe the possibility of trading him becomes more palatable. Of course, keeping Fitzgerald for a potential new QB is certainly an ace up their sleeves.

Call me crazy, but I think this crosses the minds of the new regime at some point. Out of those mentioned, Larry Fitzgerald would be the one I would target if available....

 

Jennings or bust for me. We could enter the draft being able to go BPA in every round instead of over drafting for need.

 

They all have their warts:

Wallace runs a limited route tree. It's not just the go route, but he is generally limited to the go, drags, ins and outs. You don't really see that quick slant, which tends to be a staple of WCO derivatives. That being said, he's very effective at the routes he runs. He's the youngest of the group, has rare speed and is probably the one with the most healthy peak years remaining.

Jennings has had injury issues the last few years, but is a complete WR. Our coach knows him well and he should be somewhat familiar with our system.

Bowe seems to have the lowest ceiling of the three, but that could be related to the QBs he's had relative to the other two. I think he's a bit slower (4.51 reportedly).

I would probably rank them Wallace and Jennings then Bowe.

I hope we also target a seam threat TE. If there was a true stud then that would be my priority, but I don't see one that is as dynamic as Gronk, Hernandez or Graham.

I expect we'll also draft a WR on day 2 (2nd or 3rd round) as the draft seems to lack a stereotypical #1, but has several play makers at the WR position who should be available in that range.

 

Talking about paying top dollar Fitzgerald is that guy. We make that move and still pickup a good prospect in the draft then wait for the cuts at the beginning of the season for a decent veteran. We would be good at the receiver core.

 

He can run the full tree. BUT all he has to be able to do is be a legitimate deep threat. Which he is. Forcing teams to double him as well as forcing teams to pull their safety's out of the box would go a long way in opening up our offense.

 

I just think it's makes sense for a team if they are rebuilding.

They spend a #1 on Michael Floyd. They have a good number 2 in Andre Roberts. Why would they need Larry Fitzgerald when he has had his worst year since being in the league? Granted, they were pretty horrible at QB, but if you are going to fork out that much dough for a wideout, you better have someone who can get him the ball. That costs money. They lost out on Peyton Manning last season. Who is out there this year? Who is coming out?

Also, they may have some cap issues going into 2013 (I think they had very little cap room in 2012 when they were in the running for Manning to the point of there was some talk of Fitzgerald having to maybe re-work his contract if Manning signed).

In this case, I would not be surprised if Fitzgerald is traded. And why not Miami? I would certainly trade a 1st and a 3rd and take that contract any day. The guy is 29 years old and still has several years of good football left in him.

If Fitzgerald could be in the picture, I'd say him. If not, Wallace is my #1 guy. He can break away anytime he has the ball. A real threat. Then I would go Jennings, then Bowe.

 

It might somewhat undermine some of the WCO efficiency aspect of the offense, especially the short stuff. We'd have to tailor the scheme to becoming more vertically oriented, make it more like an Andy Reid style WCO where you're lengthening many of the route stems etc to take advantage of all the speed IMO.

 

Jake Long and a 2nd for Fitz if we're dreaming. :lol:

Don't get me wrong they could trade Fitz (esp if he finally asked for one) but it's way too perfect to happen.
