As good a player as any to run it.

Most teams half-*** it against us with non-athletic players and get stuffed. Bush is the kind of athlete that needs to run it against us.

 

They can try it once or twice. That will be it. Our D sees it in practice every day. Bush looking good at it says more about your Ds lack of ability to stop it. If he looks good, then we will look like rock stars at it. Be prepared to bleed win or lose.

 

So, a team that is one of the best offensive teams in the NFL feels the need to alter their strategy and incorporate a new wrinkle offensively?

Friend Huck1974 made an astute observation. I agree.

 

Is he taking the direct snap? Or is he coming from the wildcat position (The Ricky Williams spot)? Because I can't really see Bush having much success running upinto the line, even with the driect snap. If he is coming off the edge, he might gain some yardage.

Nontheless, the fundamental problem with any other team running this is that, they aren't commited to it like Miami. Miami has virtually an entire playbook to work with with this formation. Other teams are siomply trying to copy what they have seen from Miami. Ultimately, it won't be as fruitful for them until they decide to have the right personel and dedicate time, effort and players to it, like Miami has.

 

It will be interesting to see,no doubt the Saints are a dangerous offense so the Fins will have to be careful on defense. However,if there is one thing I think the defense should have confidence in,is stopping the wildcat.I'm sure as much as our offense uses it,the defense has been taught how to stop it. The defense has probably seen many versions of the wildcat in practice whether run or pass.

 

I honestly don't believe that they plan to run it. I think it's more likely that they just want us to spend some time preparing for it.

I am personally more worried about their passing attack. And while I think that Bush could be a very effective weapon in the WC, I don't believe that they can possibly devote enough time and practice to it during the regular season to have it be more effective than their passing game.

 

he's not much more athletic than Leon Washington. I expect similar results. we have concerns about the Taints. The wildcat ain't one of em.

 

Well unlike other teams, we prepare for it by facing an offense in practice that uses it regularly. It's not like we'll ever be forced to spend extra practice time on it.

I doubt we see more than a play or two from them in the WC...........but it wouldn't surprise me. It's like teams can't help but to want to try it against us, like an ego thing.

And I agree with the rest of your post. That's why it's not a gimmick when the Dolphins run it. Any football formation based on fundamentals can still be a gimmick if it's sole purpose is as a trick or distraction. The Dolphins don't use the WC that way. It's a substantial part of our offense. (I think we used it 35% of the time against the Jets and 20% of the time the rest of the year.) This is who we are and what we do. Every team knows it and knows it's coming.

 

More than ego, it's a momentum thing.

If somebody has success with it against us, it will probably be a big boost.

We're probably the most equipped to deal with it, but somebody will eventually hit us for a big play or TD with it. If I were New Orleans (or anybody), I'd run it at the goalline. All you need is a yard and you get that jolt of energy.

 

1) They ran it on their scout team to prepare their defense, nothing more.

2) I sure hope they run it. It keeps Drew Brees off the field.

If they are going to game plan trying to beat us at our own game, taking Drew Brees off the field, then the Saints have the dumbest coaching staff in history.

That would be like Miami going to the run in a new formation exclusively for one game taking Marino and the passing game off the field. When the opposing team has a mediocre pass defense and has a good run defense.

I really hope we don't have to find out. Drew Brees throws right handed about as good as anyone. I could see a goal line wildcat play with Bush. But other than that, I don't want to see it. And after tomorrow, I'd be extremely happy if I never heard the word "wildcat" again.

 

If they run it it wont be but a couple times. I Doubt with the success they have been having on Offense that they will make wholesale changes and take Bree's out of the equation.

 

I don't think there is any situation in which I fear Reggie Bush running the ball.

 

What about returning a punt?

That's running with the ball. When he is running the ball he is mediocre.

 

It was scout team stuff. Though the Saints have practiced the wildcat in small degrees since training camp, I don't think there is any plan to use it. We want our number one guy to touch the ball every snap.

And that's Drew Brees.

Sorry Saints fans, but if Reggie Bush was breaking it for big runs, its probably not something you want to brag about.
Reggie Bush is a very average runningback, and it just means your defense is in for a long long afternoon trying to stop Ronnie and Ricky :up:

I think most of us here know who Bobby Hebert is, and thus, how to pronounce his name.

As for never seeing the QB line up as a receiver in the Wildcat formation before...did you miss Miami's season last year? That is how they lined up all year long out of the formation.

 

It will be interesting to see how well Bush runs between the tackles. If it is a first for them, then they may not be very good at it. Otherwise, they'd have been doing it before now.

 

Any situation where the saints are running is playing right in to miamis gameplan. Our coverage of backs and a times te's has been awful at best. Taking the ball out he hands of brees for any significant length of time isa mistake. They should be trying to turn this in to a trackmeet since thatsmore suited to their style.

 

Keep in mind that David Duke is not exactly an uncommon name, and that, indeed, there are probably some people who don't know who the REAL David Duke is... :pity:

Back on topic: I have no doubt that someone will eventually hit us with a Wildcat that works, but I don't see it this weekend. Brees is the big weapon of the Saints and taking the ball out of his hands would be a huge mistake, IMO.

According to the Saint's fans, we shouldn't bother to show up. I remember hearing that two weeks ago also.

 

I can guarantee you that New Orleans will not run it. Sean Payton was asked directly in a press conference earlier this week and he simply said no. There's no truth to this. Move along folks.

Two things to ponder: If N.O. were going to run it, Miami would probably be one of the least effective teams to run it against. Secondly, why take the ball out of your best player's hands (Drew Brees)?

 

Miami's defense has something to prove. That's all I'm going to say. Get ready for war.
