It's been three days of camp and our boy, RT17 has yet to throw a pick. I am not gonna lie, I was expecting some (maybe even a lot) of rust. Additionally, I was expecting a learning curve from some of our newer guys as it may take some time for them to learn the system and get in sync with RT.
On the negative, it appears that on several occasions, he may have gotten our boy, Amendola killed with some of his throws. I would like to see him improve his ball placement going forward. In fairness, RT has gone from an awful deep ball to a quite respectable deep pass. I keep hearing about nice deep passes in camp. The only problem that I have heard about these passes is the drops which is not his fault. From what I have heard, his pocket presence (this too was pretty bad) has gotten much better. I think that better ball placement is the next step on his progression as a passer.
I think that this needs to improve sooner rather than later. My guess is that RT will rely heavily on Amendola. His great hands and quick wiggle will allow him to follow in the footsteps of Bess, Hartline, and Landry. What sets Danny apart is that he is a veteran with a history of injuries. I really think that Danny Amendola is an important part of this team and losing him would be devastating.
That being said, I feel really encouraged about the start of RT's camp. I hope he can grow even more in this month before the season.

On a side note, I read that Osweiler clearly outplayed Fales on Friday with several perfect deep balls and very nice passes. Fales was the clear leader up until yesterday, so hopefully it's an actual competition in the weeks ahead.
For Tannehill, everything coming out of camp is positive at this time- he's making smart reads, he's getting the ball out fast, etc. Gase also said last week that RT has zero rust and is playing even more confident than before the knee injury. His biggest statement- RT has taken the next step and clearly on a different level than ever before. Who knows how much of that is fluff...but the staff is expecting a huge year anyway.resnor, Surfs Up 99 and Irishman like this. -

Somebody I respect was there on his first day and said he was late on some throws throughout..
As far as ball placement, I believe he has innate accuracy in his game so I’m not concerned about that..
To me with Ryan it’s about sensing where pressure is coming from, having the anticipation to see it early, reset and either throw or make a play.Bumrush and Surfs Up 99 like this. -
I think the Fales vs. Osweiler battle is one of the most interesting battles in camp. Although it feels like an eternity, Brock is just two years removed from a mega deal. Since signing that deal, it has been a whirlwind for him. He was thrust into Bill O'Brien's hands (possibly against his will), and they clashed. In fairness, both are probably a bit to blame. O'Brien did try and force the ball down field with Brock's arm, but his accuracy became problematic. O'Brien put emphasis on the short passes to allow Brock to build his confidence through smaller successes. Brock and his salary were shipped to Cleveland, and the Browns received a 2nd round pick to take his salary. The Browns never actually wanted him, and he was cut. Brock tried to recapture old glory and returned to Denver on short notice with a new head coach.
It is safe to say, that Miami is the first team that has actually wanted him AND was willing to develop time and resources into having him on the team in quite a while. Fales, like Osweiler is a Gase guy that has improved his skillset as his arm strength has improved. He has spent time on the Dolphins' roster, and has shown that he can be serviceable when called upon. Osweiler lacks the consistency that Fales has, and there is a chance that his accuracy could be a liability if called upon. I think that with Fales, you know what you got, you could game plan around him, and he could be decent in short stretches, if that is what you are interested in. With Brock, you need to figure out game to game what you have "hot Brock" or "cold Brock."
I would love to be a fly on the wall in the Dolphins' HQ when Osweiler was signed. How did the team view him? A failed starter with experience with Gase? Someone that could compete for a backup role? Or more interestingly, is he a "Plan B"? It is undeniable that this is RT's last chance in Miami. If Fales was our backup and RT flopped, the cupboard is empty. Now, if Brock can show enough in terms of accuracy and consistency the preseason, his ceiling could keep him on the roster. If his accuracy improves, he is an NFL starter. The problem with keeping Fales over Brock is that the team could not continue to work and develop his accuracy during the season. Moreover, there is a strong likelihood that Brock could become the league's 3rd quarterback. If a team's starter is hurt, I imagine Brock's arm strength and starting experience would make him sought after. I do not think that cutting Fales poses the same problem. I think Fales is far more valuable to the Dolphins' than the rest of the league.
I think that this is going to be an interesting decision.Bumrush, resnor, Surfs Up 99 and 3 others like this. -
While I will miss his effort during play, I will not the extracurricular yapping and nonsense (the stuff usually ending in 15 yards for the other team).

Again though, take that with a grain of salt since it came to me from a friend of a team executive. It could be 100% accurate or just that person's opinion- I never know with that kind of thing and it's usually why I don't share it.resnor, Surfs Up 99 and mbsinmisc like this. -

Gase made his bed with Tannehill by not picking a QB high in the draft. Personally, I wanted us to draft a QB high to at least provide serious competition, but Gase chose not to and I think he'll either live or die by that decision.
We'll see what happens, but I'll be real upset if our passing offense isn't clearly above average this season, or if Tannehill misses games because of injury. This is a fool-me-twice situation with any serious injury to Tannehill so "QB injury" is no excuse this year. -
Woukd be nice to have a backup you could atleast HOPE played well.
Not sure why we were so fast to jettison Matt Moore if all we were going to replace him with is those guy’s. -
As far as our QB situation this season, Gase is still really high on Fales. Great instinct and really smart kid. He was limited by his throwing strength but that's been improving...so I think he can play on Moore-like levels for short stretches if necessary. And Gase still feels like Osweiller is serviceable in that same role; they're working with him on accuracy issues and supposedly cleaning it up.
Plain and simple, if RT goes down then we'll be fighting to be a .500 team again...but Gase has that much confidence in his abilities. So let's cross our fingers, say a prayer or whatever you do to shake away the bad mojo. -
Even if it's a long shot it's worth the shot, given the limited downside in using him as a camp body. -
One other thing to keep in mind is that Gase is respected around the league for resurrecting journeymen QB's careers. That means Osweiller is literally playing for his pro career to continue- if we cut him then he's almost certainly done. Other teams will assume that if Gase couldn't figure it out, then there's probably not a solid solution there that can be reached in one season.Bumrush likes this. -

Do I think he thinks his game has more value than it deserves..absolutely..
Do I think he is a punk *** and a poor leader...absolutely.
Would I of gave him 15 mill a year if I was the GM...HEEEEEEL NO.
To me he’s busted..I’ve mentioned several times over the years that his route running is not as good as most think, and he can’t play on the boundary...Gase not letting him run more routes makes absolute sense..Irishman, MikeHoncho, Bumrush and 1 other person like this. -
Just a reminder, this was Tannehill's coach in college and during his first 2 years in the NFL.
