Think you paid too much for your Playstation 3? Don't expect any sympathy from Sony.
In the company's fiscal 2008 annual report, Sony revealed that they've now lost roughly $3.3 billion (that's billion with a B) on the Playstation 3 since its launch. That breaks down to $2.16 billion in 2007, followed by a notably smaller but equally daunting $1.16 billion loss in 2008.

Yep! Hardware always loses money and the software makes up for the losses. The PS3 was out for a couple of years with poor software releases. The death of HD-DVD may have helped but is it enough to allow them to catch up with the other 2 consoles. Only time will tell. -
Honestly that's a garbage article since it doesn't mention how much the GAMING division of Sony has made or lost on all PS3 related stuff.

Do realize I am not a fanboy of any system but a system has to prove itself with it's software. To be completely honest, Sony hasn't done that thus far. In time however, that could change and I am hoping it does. I really like some of Sony's titles. God of War anybody? -
I know XBOX lost money overall during its entire time, software, hardware and all.

I've had a PS3 for over 6 months and just bought my first game when MGS4 came out. I've got all three systems and I usually buy most games that come out on each console on the 360. Not sure why just seem to prefer the xbox. They prolly are making up for in blu-ray sales.

Only a year after the launch but still.

The Wii imo isnt really competition for either the PS3 or 360. People are either grabbing it that would not normally get a console (older gamers, parents with young kids etc etc), or grabbing that plus either a PS3 or 360. It just appeals to a wider array of people, is cheaper, family oriented etc etc, but either way you look at it, I dont think its veiwed as a major competitor for either 360 or PS3.
As for the 2 consoles, XBox came in and had to break into a market dominated by Sony and Nintendo, thus they had to blow loads of cash on the Xbox. It wasnt supposed to be an overnight sensation, it was the break-in for Microsoft. Then the 360 came out running and has proved itself a genuine competitor to Sony, while Nintendo went in a different direction with their console.
Sony got caught with its pants down on the PS3 a little, but they are catching up now. I dont expect to see the 360 flag to heavily with titles like GoW2 coming up, but niether will they pull far ahead of Sony either. But still, compared to PS2/Xbox Microsoft has to be pretty pleased. -

People who are buying the Wii seem to mostly be people who either wouldnt buy a PS3 or 360 anyway, or who have one of those consoles in addition to the Wii. The Wii is more of a niche player, its just found a really really big niche. Bottom line is that if your a gamer who enjoys the type of games coming out on 360 or PS3, your gonna get one of those consoles, as the Wii doesnt have the games to satisfy you.Stitches likes this. -

Id say its a great thing to have the competition but all the games are priced the same anyway, damn that $60 hurts sometimes :tantrum: -
