"The general rule of thumb is as players get older, they don't get more durable," a so-called "source familiar with front office operations" told Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN. "Generally speaking, if you've been hurt before, you're going to be hurt again. Tua, to play the entire year this year, deserves a ton of credit. I'm just glad I'm not the one that's signing off on paying him."

Big yawn on the "source familiar with front office operations".
I've never seen a "source" use so many generalities and hypotheticals in his assessment of a player.OwesOwn614 likes this. -
Will the Dolphins extend Tua? Maybe, maybe not, but both options depend on a lot of things. Injury is always in the mix, with all players. There’s always a risk in signing a player to a big money contract. Look at Rodgers. Look at the dozens of players over the years that had major injuries after big contracts.
Again, trash article looking for clicks. -
Sounds like the Bengals and Chargers are screwed.

Ummm... Did #1 NOT play in 18 games last season? What am I missing?

He has to repeat it and show the toughness and durability to win the tough games in December.dolphin25 likes this. -

After just 1 year? Am I missing something? Wasn't Tua one of the league's leading quarterbacks in 2022, even being out with the concussions he had? Having missed the same or even less time than Burrow, Jackson, et all?
Tua's had two CONSECUTIVE seasons of elite quarterback play...play that was instrumental in leading the Dolphins to 2 CONSECUTIVE winning seasons under first year head coach Mike McDaniel and two CONSECUTIVE playoff appearances.
Jackson...injured...paid
Burrow....injured...paid
Herbert...injured...paid
Tua...injured...oh wait...he still has to prove himself.
I already see what's going to happen. My crystal ball is already coming into focus. The Dolphins are going to screw around and Tua's going to get traded. He's going to go to another team and its going to be just like Tannehill, he'll go to a team that's going to go deep into the playoffs, if not the Super Bowl itself, while the Dolphins are yet repeating another stretch of mediocrity and embarrassment.Tuanon4Life likes this. -
The problem isn’t me being disingenuous. The problem is a complete lack of understanding of this topic by a lot of fans.Tuanon4Life likes this. -
I’ve also read where we’re trying to protect ourselves in the contract with some injury clauses.
The only situation where I would take a hard stance is if his team is not reasonable and he wants highest paid Qb money.danmarino and Tuanon4Life like this. -

This thread is just another example of why this forum doesn't get the traffic of other forums. Too much negativity about Tua on repeat for FIVE YEARS. The negative posters have fallen all the way down to rumor sites. Next it will just reposting from the Bills, Jets, and Pats forums.....

CBS reporting Tua has skipped most voluntary workouts this off-season.
Let’s stop taking shots at the forum when every forum has its negative type posters.dolphin25 likes this. -
I would have signed Burrow as he has done more in this time in NFL.
Jackson probably sign him as not sure what is out there which is better when they were forced to make a decision.
Herbert I would have waited for 5th year, unless there was a ton of cap room to make the move now instead of later.
I would wait on Tua for the 5th year and try to get as much help around him as possible with the other money. -

If you want to discuss Tua that is fine. If you view stats as the end all accomplishment, yes without question Tua has put up great stats. -
Jesus, this was your first response in the thread - "So this is your new stance on not signing him?"
The point isn't this take....it is that a few very vocal make EVERY take an anti-Tua take. This is especially problematic when they constantly move the goal posts when their previous anti-Tua takes were WRONG.
I can say with certainty that not every forum has this level of anti-Tua rhetoric. It is obvious that a few posters are only interested spewing the same narrative again and again. Contract talks is just the latest in a long line of disingenuous debates:
- The Dolphins haven't exercised the 5th year option, that proves they don't believe in Tua.
- Okay they exercised the 5th year option but haven't signed a long term deal, that proves they don't believe in Tua.
and very soon...
- Okay they signed a long term deal, that just proves they are idiots!!
If they are idiots, doesn't that mean we shouldn't assume they knew what they were doing when they delayed the 5th yer option and long term contract???? The point is that REALITY doesn't matter, it can always be twisted to fit the preconceived narrative.
It is so bad that I am convinced if Tua goes on to win the next 15 super bowls, we will have to hear:
- the team is carrying him
- don't cherry pick, he was terrible the first 4 years.....danmarino and Tuanon4Life like this. -
So if you want someone like that, then you're going to have to open up the checkbook and pay him. Or don't, let him walk and sign someone like Minshew next year, go through the losing record and seeing McDaniel fired, and start over yet again. -
I wonder what "team sources" are saying about this?

Both sides are using whatever leverage they have in negotiations its not a big deal.
And the basis of this thread is pretty hilarious. Someone with knowledge of a front office operations (not even the Dolphins) thinks he could get hurt? How earth shattering. -
But I disagree about attendance, I think all players should be at team workouts voluntary or not especially the QbLast edited: May 17, 2024dolphin25 likes this. -
