Has it really come to this? Coach Tony Sparano is concerned enough about New England fans packing Sun Life Stadium for the first game that he's preparing for the noise they'll make?

...or he is just preparing for our fans screaming? Not to offend anybody or talk down to anybody, but there are ALOT of uneducated fans who on 3d down stand up and start chanting loud as **** "OF-FENSE" and so on. When you tell them to shut up, they give you a confused look. So if it's a packed house and it's rocking, it will be rocking when we are on offense as well, I promise you.

Its also equally for half our ****** fanbase that doesnt understand how to use their volume for a home field advantage... as in being quiet when we're on offense and screaming on defense. Do you realize how many stupid Fin fans cheer on 3rd or 4th down??? As if they think they're supposed to "cheer the team on" or something... :pity:

For the last 20 years, they have sucked the life out of the fanbase. Over the last ten years it has become nearly unbearable. If they want to sell tickets they have to produce on the field. Noone has the stomach for another 1-7 home record. They need to come out of the gate fast.

What is wrong with some of you ? Don't you get it ? The Dolphins have finally LOST a large proportion of their fanbase, because THE DOLPHINS HAVE PLAYED CRAPPY BALL AT HOME ! Don't blame that on the fans Tony, blame that ON YOURSELF ! Win some damn home games Tony and the fans will be back, but until then don't blame the fans for not showing up to your boring Fist Pump for Field Goal Festivals. -
The day that schmuck Sparano is gone, along with Jeff Ireland, will be one of the happiest days in my life.
WIN SOME DAMN HOME GAMES TONY AND STOP BLAMING THE FANS ! -
"They have a good fan base themselves. Somehow they make their way into our stadium."
I believe you quoted Dafins..
He has handled this poor homefield advantage very well, I actually respect the hell out of him for going there and bringing some things to the forefront, and especially how he's gone about doing it...He has come up with the way to motivate his players in the worst environment from a players perspective in the NFL, which is something that he had to do..
''Were gonna win, with, or without you''..
lol, it's fu%$in perfect..
show me proof. 1 example of him showing disrespect to this fanbase?.
Truth hurts huh? -
Newsflash Tony! Season tickets were skyhigh until you lost them by losing at home so many times. You have a lot to prove for them to come back, and you only have one more shot at it.DolfanJake likes this. -
I would take it a step further and hire a proffessional heckler. Just give him the mike and add deafening sporadic sounds to try and psyche out your team.
-
I agree with what Sparano has said, I think the approach is spot on, and I think the emotion behind it, is real..I feel the same way he does. -
And where did he blame the fans? How did you extrapolate that from the article?
I think there are irrational fans on both sides of the fence.

Has nothing to do with the fanbase. It's like that in almost every single venue.... -
I feel like this is gonna be a good season. So much negativity building up that this team just might be in shock the world mode all season.
Henne playing for his career. Sparano Coaching for his. Marshall erasing demons and proving hes worth his contract. Reggie Bush wants to be a real player and not just a gimmick. This defense wants to be a top five defense. VD and SS want to be the best CB duo in the league. Dansby wants to be an ALL Pro. Wake wants a big fat contract. Odricks back, Starks is still starks.
Say im wearing aqua and orange glasses all you want, im pumped to see this team.
Wish i lived in south florida so i could get some of these tickets.Cass likes this. -

I'm usually a firm believer in the old saying that if you start listening to your fans, you're going to wind up sitting next to them (obviously excluding me; they really need to listen to me a lot more). In this case, however, the organization is walking a pretty thin line. You have to give your fans something, especially when you don't have the kind of fanbase Green Bay or Chicago or Kansas City have. Home field advantage is huge in the NFL; in terms of win/loss ratio, it should roughly be the equivalent of a playmaker on either offense or defense or, frankly, both. If you squander your home field advantage (like we've already successfully squandered our September advantage, thanks in part to Ross insisting on prime time event football) then that's a bit like drafting Heath Shuler over Marino - it'll cost you games, and plenty. We can talk all day about how spoiled, unappreciative or crappy our fanbase is ... it is what it is, and at some point, you have to cater to that. And while it's certainly nice that some clever brainiacs on a message board realize that they know a bit more about the game than the average Joe Seasonticketholder, the truth of the matter is that a franchise can do without the lot of us brainiacs. They can't, however, do without the Joes.

2009 4 wins, 4 losses
2010 1 win, 7 losses
So DJ 10 wins and 15 losses is Sparano's home record. That is the truth of the matter DJ. Its not the fans fault he is 5 games UNDER at home, its because he didn't put together a team that could win home games.
And I guess you are too young or don't remember that the 2007 team, may have just been about the unluckiest team I have ever seen, because that team was 5 or 6 plays away from being 6-10 or 7-9 as they lost 7 games by 3 or less points. Hell had lucky bounces gone their way, they could have been 8-8. That's why in 2008 when a lot of those bounces DID go their way, along with the QB that fell into their laps, and stayed healthy for one of the 2 seasons he's ever done that (and the whole team stayed freakishly healthy) they won 11 games (along with the easiest schedule).
Trying to blame the fans, and put this on us, is just another slap in the face by Sparano.
WIN SOME DAMN HOME GAMES TONY AND THE FANS WILL BE THERE TO CHEER FOR YOUR TEAM !
The lack of season ticket and single game tickets being sold, just is further proof that a lot of those season tickets holders feel just like I do. I am one of the very few that will come on this board and tell the truth, and stick in the face of the rah-rah's that their little goody-goody world of Dolphin Bliss is just not reality. The perception is this team sucks, that Ross and Sparano are out of touch with the fanbase, don't listen to them, and now in ways are actually at war with them. Not a receipe for success..... -
Two years ago the Dolphins had 61,000 season tickets. Now its less than 45,000. That says just about everything. Those numbers should be reversed, but this franchise just when should be building momentum, seems to be losing it. That is why the national pundits have all predicted 3 or 4 wins, if you look at us from the outside you don't see much to be excited about. The local fans have not seen enough to excite them to plunk down their $ 125 a game or so. They did that the last two years and have been rewarded by Tony Sparano with 1 win in the last 10. People only can take it for so long until they say, "Prove it me 1st" and the season ticket holders, and the casual fans as well are telling that to the Dolphins. -

Not to derail the thread too much, but bringing in season ticket sales really isn't an indication that we've "lost the fanbase". Season ticket sales are down dramatically for every single team, not just ours. The economy hits everyone hard, folks have less cash to fork over and are now more than willing to sit at home or not travel to games.
Could you imagine being a season ticket holder that lived in Orlando? Between the cost of gas for driving, or perhaps a hotel for the day, and the cost of tickets, it just financially doesn't make sense. -

So ending up 28th, 32nd and 31st in attendance is "packing the place" ? And and average attendance % of 85.1......that is packed ?
By the way, the Dolphins have had in the last 3 years, 90.1% (2010), 89.8% (2009) and 87.1 (2008). The home record in those three years got progressively worse, yet the average capacity attendance rose all three years, and you have people on this board calling our fans fairweather ? And mind you this comes from people that pass judgement of the citizens down here that many of them have NEVER lived here.schmolioot likes this. -

Fact is many of the old DolFans no longer live here, many for reasons I think if I said it out loud would be very controversial and un-PC. That is also a HUGE factor in why the Dolphins attendance has dropped. Look at this board, and the majority of posters have either never lived here or have moved. When those people moved out, they were filled by people who either don't give two craps about American football or by people who at one time MAY have had (or their parents had) a reason to root for teams outside of So Fla. With the fan unfriendly ways of the Dolphins for many years (Huizenga had a directive that almost NO Dolphins events, outside of games were to be in Dade County) has alienated many potential fan recruits, especially in south Miami-Dade County. Many little kids in my neighborhood here in South Dade, have on Dallas, NE or (whatever team just won the Super Bowl) shirts on. Its less and less you see Dolphin gear being worn. Whose fault is that ? Its not the fans, it comes down to.....WIN SOME DAMN HOME GAMES TONY ! -
anyways I like what Tony is doing here, with this and what he said on the 1PM home field advantage issue....he is telling it like it is to Ross, and to the fans.....
I dont know if he thinks there is a good chance he is getting fired this year or at the end but I like it... -
Wow, way to go back to the silverdome to make your point. Did I even mention anything prior to 2002? Not at all really. I'm talking about Ford Field. The Silverdome never sold out because it was way too big for the region. To expect 80,000 people to attend a football game in a stadium that is about an hour outside of the metropolitan detroit area is ridiculous. There was never enough population in the region to come close to filling that place. Since 2002, when the Lions moved into Ford field, that place has been packed, yes. Throw all the numbers you want, I've been there. I've seen it with my own eyes. Were there some empty seats up in the nosebleeds, sure, but that's to be expected when theyre that bad. Those lower levels, the 200, and 100, and the club seats, and most of the 300 level were jammed. I've sat in that place numerous times, listened to their fans cheer on their team, even in the 0-16 season, that place still got loud with LIONS fans, not 40% fans of the opposing team like our stadium. Their fans still supported that team. So, carry on about the old silverdome, a stadium built too large for its own uses all you want. Talk about people passing judgement of citizens of an area where one has never lived.
