We hear the Dolphins’ decision to sign defensive tackle C.J. Mosley wasn’t an indictment on second-round pick Jordan Phillips, but more so, borne out of concern about the young players behind Phillips. (A.J. Francis and Anthony Johnson are now competing for the fifth tackle job.) Ndamukong Suh is close with Mosley and was very much in favor of Miami signing him.
The Dolphins gave Mosley just over $1 million for this season, leaving them with a shade under $9 million in cap space. With regard to discussions on Evan Mathis, keep in mind that the Dolphins want to enter the season with several million dollars in cap space.
One player criticism of Joe Philbin over the years has been his lack of fire and emotion. So this wasn’t surprising: When USA Today asked Mike Wallace about transitioning from Philbin to Vikings coach Mike Zimmer, Wallace said:
“Oh my God — I love it, man. I love it. I love it. Honestly, [Zimmer]'s more of my type of guy — fired up. It's cool when you do things and just do them. But when you do them and have some fire with it, it's a lot more fun. I think it's more of an environment for me, coming from [Steelers] coach [Mike] Tomlin being fired up and going to Coach Philbin, who was a lot more reserved, then coming back to another coach who's fired up. I love it.”

Classy of Mike to just say he likes Zimmer w/out throwing Joe under the bus. I guess I'm a little surprised.

DeAndre Coleman finished last season actually on the 53 man roster. Everyone disregards the guy. He is still in the mix.

reserved..rah rah...whatever, just don't call timeout when your at home, at the end of the game, when your in the lead, when your on defense, when its the last drive for the opponent, when you just sacked them for a huge loss on third down, making it 4th and long, and your entire crowd is now on their feet screaming to close the game..ok didpsh^%, otherwise just be yourself.

I mean... all the plays that we did not make on defense to stop the Packers from scoring on that drive, and yet the one thing people harp on from that game is a timeout. I just have to laugh when I read stuff like that.Rocky Raccoon and DolphinGreg like this. -
The more I hear Mike Wallace speak the more I think he's a totally reasonable guy who just didn't fit with Philbin's personality nor the QB Miami currently has.
I credit Wallace with being honest and being fair in his views. He really doesn't seem like that bad a guy. -
I can't remember specifics, but I know there were a couple of defensive TO's called when the guys were absolutely gassed. Our D has spent a lot of time on the field. Need to remedy that through better D and better O. Some better ST pinning teams deeper would be a big 10-4 as well.

lets call it what it was, a dumb call..doesn't mean he cant learn from the mistake.Fin4Ever likes this. -
lets reminisce shall we..
the miami dolphins are hosting the favorite and Super Bowl contender green bay packers with current mvp qb aaron rogers, we battled the whole game and now find ourselves in the lead at the end of the game with one drive left, its 3rd and long, the fans are in a frenzy, cam wake rips off the edge, sacks the mvp who flails in the air losing the ball, we smell blood, now whatever fans were sitting on their *** are now standing, the whole crowd in unison, omg, its 4th and 14, its the loudest its been in the stadium all year without question, aaaaaand timeout??? huh, what...what had happened, who..where...why..
the only excuse is that cam wake signaled the sideline to call timeout. -
I think how they lined up after the time-out is what's more important and that was Coyle's responsibility, not Philbin's. Phillip Wheeler was covering Quarles and wasn't all that tight in his coverage to begin with. It's was really an easy play for Green Bay not only because of the match-up but how Wheeler played it as well.
That's how I saw it anyway. -

odds are your wrong larry, theres only that one scenario that could justify it, no other strategic timeout overides the amount of rhythm, crowd energy, and positive variables that was on our side... 99 out of 100 times...
we also have the result to look at btw..so saying it was the wrong move proved to be correct.Fin4Ever likes this. -

I know he's saying we don't really know so we shouldn't criticize, and to that I would say, there is no legitimate reason except if one of the players on the field signaled for it..thats it, so I'm not sure the reason for his hard stance, strategy gets overruled against all those positive variables, you ride with your defense and crowd..and your fourth and 14.. -

some want to say that it may of been a strategic scenario to call the timeout, for which I will say, still dumb considering all variables...lol, you never call timeout in that situation...ive never seen it done either..anywhere, not on a home field, not in a long down and distance situation, not on fourth down, not when you just crushed the qb on the previous play..not when your fans are in a frenzy...
but we did, and you know what happened, the whole crowd let out all their energy..you don't play freakin games with your team when their ready to kill...you freakin attack..
result of calling the timeout...conversion by opponent in a 4 and long situation in our building.. -

Simple. Queasy was unsure of his team's preparation for the 2 minute drill. He didn't trust they would know what to do in that situation. So it was lack of preparation, or terrible performance during the preparation.
Contrast that to the insane decision by Belichick not to call a time out on that last drive in the Super Bowl. Everyone in the world was wondering why he wasn't calling a time out. He basically decided, my defense is going to stop them or we'll lose. So what happens? Butler recognizes a play that he was torched on in practice that week and nails it. Philbin, for whatever reason, did not have that confidence.djphinfan likes this. -
I guess not..lol

Edit: Found a stat...3rd and 3-7 to go he averages just over 2 ypc (with a small sample size), and his 2 4th down carries both resulted in 0 yards...maybe that was the basis of the conversation.
But on 2nd down and 3-7 to go, he averages 5.5 ypc, however, a chunk of that's not normally an obvious running play outside deep in the red zone.
Edit 2: In 81 carries inside the red zone, average 2.4 a carry. And one stat I found interesting, not sure what it means/doesn't mean, but he was 6.5 YPC when there was < 3 DL motioning, rather pedestrian with all other formations/motion. -

We also signed some guys who also double as good special teamers, so there's that too.
I don't hold a lot of hope for Sturgis finishing the season without pulling/re-pulling something. I REALLY hope he does, just not confident. -
Nor am I
-
From my pov, Sturgis is such a net negative, adding Paysinger should help the unit
ST literally can win 4 games a yr, can lose around 2 games a year.
Unless the offense is just that high powered -
As for Philbin calling time out:
I thought it was the right move, keep in mind Defenders..wear out..pinning their ears back down after down, now Cortland Finnegan really really screwed the pooch in GB, it was not a product of a timeout, he simply blew his assignment..a Vet literally did not know WTH he was doingLarry Little and Fin D like this. -
