Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and wide receiver DeVante Parker dominate minicamp practices
When Ryan Fitzpatrick saw DeVante Parker at the Dolphins team facility before Wednesday’s practice, he told the receiver they would connect on a long touchdown on a particular play.
“It was just that particular defense that they played,” Fitzpatrick said after practice. “In terms of the confidence I have in DeVante, I felt he deserved the opportunity and he ran a great route.”
Fitzpatrick and Parker lit up Wednesday’s practice, connecting on several deep balls, including a 74-yard touchdown pass on the play the veteran quarterback predicted. Parker got a great release and showed off his outstanding speed.
• Fitzpatrick, taking a majority of first-team snaps, has outshined Josh Rosen and is emerging as a team leader.
Said Parker of Fitzpatrick: “He has helped me a lot with communications and signals. He’s telling me what I am doing and what I need to do. He helps get me to the right spot.”

This is the type of leadership we hardly ever saw from Tannehill. In spite of all the chatter about his toughness and athleticism he never seemed comfortable in the leadership role. Rosen has much to learn from Fitz.

I'm kind of torn...like, I understand that Fitz isn't a long term solution, so I kinda don't want him playing. However, I also think there is a huge benefit to winning now. I think winning now attracts people to the organization, and it's easier to get players for long term success because they already are a winning team. So if Fitz is our starter, and plays lights out, I'd be super psyched for that. I guess I'm kinda at the point where I don't think sacrificing immediate success for future stability is necessarily right. I think you can have both.

It's awesome news that Fitzpatrick has taken over though for several reasons. #1, it's showing Rosen how to run a team and be a real leader. #2, it is giving us a chance to win now and let the offense build some confidence.Surfs Up 99, Phins_to_Win and resnor like this. -
Okay...so here is my thing. We know exactly who Fitz is. He may have a good year for himself, but hes still a known commodity at this point.
We know hes a leader. We know he can get hot.
Im a fan of starting Rosen but ideally he needs to play as well or nearly as well as Fitz to justify it to the rest of the roster...that is my concern.
If Rosen craps the bed its still extremely vital information for our staff and good for our future. The problem I keep finding is justifying it to the other guysgreyeagl53 and resnor like this. -

All I know is I'm sick of hearing how great Parker looks in camp. I'm only interested in how he does on a CONSISTENT basis when the games are real and he doesn't go out every other week with a hangnail!

I'm not believing the hype this time....Last year it was Torry McTyer, in years past it's been others, I'm just not buying it until I see it.
Can Parker finally break through? Yeah...I think he can, and Fitzpatrick is the type of QB that can help him do so, but I don't think we're going to see these two dominate the league. I just think Fitz has the guts to throw down field and that may be all Parker has ever really needed.
As for Fitzpatrick...I mean, he's going to win us some games, he's going to keep us competitive...He's also going to throw five interceptions on the wrong end of a 49-13 blowout. We're going to see plenty of Josh Rosen unless we somehow have magically caught lightening in a bottle with Fitzpatrick in which that case, lets roll with him.
But yeah...The camp superstars...They range from Parker, to Jordan Tripp, Mike Hull, Tony Lippett, and many more before them. I quote Chuck D of Public Enemy..."Don't believe the hype." In my opinion, Parker is fakin the funk until he proves it in the regular season on a consistent basis. We'll see, I am hoping for the best with these guys. Not here to be negative. Here's to magic happening.resnor likes this. -

We already know who Fitzpatrick is. We've seen it for years. He is a streaky risk taking qb that will win some games and make some great throws and then the wheels will fall off. It's just who he is. Parker always seems to be the star of the Shorts and Shirts Olympics. As soon as things get real and physical he disappears. That's just who he is.
Not to sound pessimistic but if those guys are the stars of the OTA's it's nothing new and once again we are in trouble. -
Fitz is a QB that plays a high risk game. Inevitably, that will result in some some spectacular wins and on balance even more spectacular mistakes. In the NFL, it's tough to play a high risk game and have it come out in your favor unless you're a truly elite QB. Fitz isn't at that level so his history is what it is. Rosen is below Fitz's talent level, but also plays a high risk game.
