ON LIVE now...says Sparano will meet with Ross tonight and that the feeling from his sources are that Sparano will be fired and that a search will be conducted with John Gruden as the top candidate.
Says Sparano can only survive if Phins get turned down from top candidates.

Well....sounds like the Gruden watch it ON BABY!!!
Im still really hoping for Jim Harbaugh.....but I really like Gruden's attitude...and I believe he is a very good X's and O's type of guy.
I think he will have learned much from Tampa.
I also think Gruden is gonna look to install an offense that isnt limited by any so called "branch"....I think hes gonna be really creative -
Thanks Sec.
Anything on Ireland remaining GM? I'm happy with Gruden but he is the type that really needs a GM to reign in some of his more loony tendencies.
And if we were to nab Gruden, I am willing to bet that we make Cam Newton priority #1 in the draft. Gruden is always talking about how he believes a version of the spread can work in the NFL and there is no better player on which to base your experiment.gunn34 and Pandarilla like this. -
Gruden eh? Well, we'll definitely see some new QB's on the roster if that comes to fruition. I don't see us getting turned down by many, if any of the top coaching candidates. If the rumors about Cowher not interested in the job if Ireland stays, you have to believe Ross will take another look at that situation.

BREAKING NEWS: Steve Wyche...
and my first thought was they hired Wyche!?!?!?!?!
I just lost a year of my life. HahahahaSection126 and finyank13 like this. -
Oh good. We can run the spread. Maybe he'll switch to the Tampa 2 as well. Oh, and we'll get to see a **** load of his scowls on the sidelines, the national carriers will love us.
Colour me unimpressed by this news.ether79 likes this. -
I am ambivalent about Gruden. He's a great Xs and Os offensive coach, which will be fine if we keep Nolan on D, but he sucks at drafting.
-
That's weird, so basically they are leaving him be until they get the guy they want, and if they get him, Tony is gone, if not, they act like none of this happened?
If that is true kind of unprofessional on Ross's part, if he wants Tony gone then just do it.dolphindebby likes this. -
Sounds like Sparano will be fired if Ross can get some sort of firm commitment out of his top candidates.
So I imagine he's on the phone with Gruden right now.
In Ross' mind, Tony is probably like #4 on the list of guys he could have coach the Fins next season
1. Gruden
2. Harbaugh
3. Fisher
4. Sparano -
@Vendigo: Good to see you here man, I'm missing you at our german message board ;) What do you think about a possible Gruden signing? -
Gruden is not going to bring the Tampa 2. He said on MNF the other night that if he ever coached again, his defense would be the 3-4

Gruden doesn't care about the type of defense anyway, as long as it works.
When he went to Tampa, he had Monte Kiffing, so he left him alone. Here, he has Nolan, he'll leave him alone.
If we land Gruden, get ready to pre-order your Cam Newton jerseys. -
My preference is Harbuagh

Apparently Ireland was at Stanford practice with Jim Harbaugh's dad so take it for what you will.
-
Jon Gruden?!
We’re screwed. -
I'm not opposed to Gruden.
-
It also could be big fat man putting sh*t out there to protect his boy. If they fire Sparano its basically saying big fat mans tenure was a complete failure. Which most of us believe it was, but I am not sure the national media thinks that, or will ever say that. -
I will eat my words if Harbaugh comes to miami...BUT HE's NOT! I promise you. No matter how friendly harbaugh and ireland are, it aint happening.

How is "Sparano will 'likely' be fired" breaking news? Like no one thought it wasn't already "likely" before this?
If it said, "certain" - that would be breaking news. Otherwise, it's pretty much about in the same range of speculation that everyone else - including guys like Hyde and others in the SoFlo media reported in their articles - has expected.
On the other hand, NFL.Com is reporting that Cowher is an unlikely fit in Miami - which is new news - b/c Ross seems to want to retain Ireland and Cowher is said to want his own set of people up and down through the organization.adamprez2003, Pandarilla and Stringer Bell like this. -

Gonna be a crazy couple of days...

I'm not opposed to firing Sparano, but please don't fire him for Gruden. He seems more concerned with drawing up offensive plays than actually running a football team.

Yeh...listening to Mike Irvin now....they just stated ESPN has quoted as saying Harbaugh is deciding between San Fran, Denver, and U of M as his three choices. They did not mention Miami. Sounds like Harbaugh not considering Miami.
We heard Cowher will not consider the Phins unless the parameters of the job change.
So that leaves....realisticly.....
Gruden, Sparano, and maybe Nolan? -
How many people had ever heard of Mike Smith of John harbaugh 3 years ago? -
Forget Jim Harbaugh, It's Michigan, or Denver. plain and simple.
-
IMO I think it's wrong to gauge interest in other coaching candidates while your HC is still employed. And if those other candidates turn you down, then your fall back plan is the guy you really want to replace. Can't run it like that... if you are firing Sparano, you fire Sparano... and then move on.dolphindebby, DolfanJake and MarinePhinFan like this. -

We're putting the cart in front of the horse here. At this point, how can Sparano be brought back in good faith?Paul 13 likes this.
