QB - Ryan Tannehill - seventh. This is as high a rating as Tannehill gets by any measure. Tannehill's cumulative rating of all the PFF stats is 16.4 percent. Here's the quarterbacks before him: Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers and Josh McCown. Immediately after Tannehill: Tom Brady, Matthew Stafford and Jay Cutler. PFF doesn't penalize sacks as much as other ratings systems. But the way to help Tannehill is obvious - (a) improve protection so he isn't sacked 58 times (b) give him a tall, seam-stretching tightend.

PFF is very Jekyll and Hyde with their ratings. I'm a big fan of Tannehill and think he's going to be very good, but 7th? Nah.
He progressed nicely for sure, but he still needs to work on his deep ball accuracy and his pocket presence.Sceeto, Fin-Omenal and 77FinFan like this. -
Again though, I'm not going to complain about Tannehill. His numbers were solid this past season and that was with awful protection and an awful running game.
I think he's going to be very good once we partner him with a capable running game and offensive line.RevRick likes this. -

Also worth mentioning, wake and grimes were ranked #2 at their positions.
Despite his injury and his stats being down, wake was still a force -
here it comes, the attack on Tannehill begins ?

What do we hear all the time? That Brady & Manning are great and everything but if you pressure them and hit them a lot you'll rattle them.
What happens when Tannehill gets hit a lot? Everything is his fault.Unlucky 13, Colorado Dolfan, eltos_lightfoot and 1 other person like this. -

This just adds to the confirmation of my belief that we have our franchise guy in RT. With a solid offseason, shoring up the line and running game, I think we are in for a playoff run next year.

worth the repeat!
Ryan Tannehill in his second year is ranked 7th amongst NFL QB's
Ryan has played without an effective offensive line or running game & has been sacked about 60 times on the season breaking all records... (at last count?).... think about it.
does this not appear to be a Franchise QB or are you privy to inside information that the last two injurious games has damaged his ability beyond repair & can no longer compete or be effective in the NFL?
this kind of season has destroyed many a bright future. is this what you think has happened? you could make an argument but it better be a good one.
personally, I think this is more of the same inane "We hate Miami"spewing forth all over Tannehill. -
There's Brady, Brees, Manning and Rodgers. Then there's a clump of 7-10 QBs who are pretty much interchangeable IMO. I'd put RT at the bottom of that list with a strong chance of climbing upwards over the next couple of seasons.

This thread reminded me to go back and update the benchmark thread with the actual 2013 numbers. No doubt at all Tannehill was vastly improved this season. We just have to hope he continues to improve and completely forgets about those last 2 games…

What people - even NFL analysts - neglect to mention or even fail to realize are the demands put on Tannehill. No other QB that's come out the past three years is asked to make full field reads and consistently throw into the teeth of the defense.
Most are given one read and run options, half field reads with numerous high percentage passes. Maybe with Lazor in the fold now, we can increase our pass efficiency simply with better game planning and play design. -

But let's keep the narrative going that this guy throwing 25 times per game off rollouts and half field reads, with Frankenstein in the backfield and with the league's best defense is somehow a franchise QB.Unlucky 13 and MonstBlitz like this. -

Eh..I like Russel Wilson. Guys an amazing team mate...works his *** off...you dont see him kissing his biceps. That said..I'd take Tannehill over any of them..even Luck. In the end..I think hes going to be the best QB of that draft.

His situation is very reminiscent of sanchez. -

I dunno..I can see him ending up alot like Drew Brees. I think his hard work will get him there...which is also the biggest reason I think RT ends up the best of this class..because hes willing to work hard enough to be that good

Tannehill may eventually turn into a quality QB, but so far he has been very inconsistent from week to week. He also has only led the Dolphins offense to come from behind victories in the fourth quarter a few times over the 32 times he has been the Dolphins starting QB. To me, putting the team on your back and leading the team to victories late in games consistently is what separates the top tier QB from the average QB's in the NFL. Right now Tannehill is merely a very average NFL QB, no matter what PFF might say about his stats.
Hopefully he will take a giant step forward next year, under the guidance of the new offensive coordinator. He needs to lead this team to the playoffs next year or the new GM will be looking for a new QB of the future in the 2015 draft. -

The Buffalo game I give Tannehill a pass...but not the Jets game. Hes gotta make that pass to Wallace. Although..he does we may still have Ireland as GM..so..yeh he gets a pass on that as well.

As for the last two games...Buffalo was a write off. No QB would excel under that complete mismatch up front. As for the Jets game, I haven't really commented on it but looking back, two things stood out to me regarding Tannehill...(1) he clearly missed Hartline and (2) he wasn't stepping into his throws. This tells me he might have been bothered by the knee injury from late in the Buffalo game. -
I'm all for waiting until this time next year to pass judgment on our young QB.
I'm not a big enough homer to apologize for his mishaps, and not a big enough hater to ignore the fact he is only a second year QB with very few advantages.
I will wait and see.jdang307 likes this. -

im saying it straight he let this season 7-10 on the Field 7 Bombs to Wallace once Hartline even clay and Matthews once..But i think with Lazor he will imprive Big Time and i dont think lazor lets zac taylor coach him up much cause Lazor is for me and Qb gutu

Tannehill can..throw the ball into the EZ for Td's...Henne rarely could do it.
Henne had a far better running game and a far better offensive line overall.
To me, no comparison.
I'm happy with Tannehill see flaws in his game mostly centered on ball placement, and tbh, wonder if he'd be better suited to a more run heavy.play action passing style offense over the hybrid WCO we run.
Simplified of course analogy, just think hoping THill suddenly pin points passes to Wr's heading down hill MAY not ever really happen, we'll see what "Lazor" can do with him. -
I think Ryan showed a lot with what he had to work with protection wise, it's scary to imagine what he can do with an o-line that can block for him and the backs. I think he definitely played hurt after being murdered in the last Buffalo game and it was an amazing feat that he wasn't injured earlier in the year. I think the long ball to Wallace will be more fruitful next year with him and Ryan having the off-season to work on chemistry. Gibson is coming back and maybe bring back Keller and do the obvious(upgrade o-line). Although I feel like the WR core is missing a piece. Maybe Gibson, Matthews, and Hartline are too similar so maybe moving one for a pick or release one of the bigger salary guys freeing up some money to pick up maybe a Jacoby Ford, Andre Roberts, or Emmanuel Sanders in FA.
