To me there is no reason to take him out. It is what it is with him and with this team. They both aren't very good individually or for each other. Let's just deal with these last 11 games and move on to another total rebuild.

There wasn't a single tackle on Tannehill today over the three second mark. Just digest that for a moment.

The average QB releases the ball at 2.73 seconds (Rothlesberger at #15 overall). Tannehill got hit 12 times today within the first 2.3 seconds. Brady at #1 releases in 2.49, which means he takes all 12 hits/sacks as well. The math is pretty darn simple here...there's not a chance in hell for any QB to succeed under those circumstances.

 

of course he's starting the rest of the year. only on these boards are such ridiculous notions as him getting benched taken seriously. guess what. we're not drafting a QB next year either and he'll be our starting QB for the next ten years.

 

It makes sense given the contract situation. Gase has only played 5 games with the guy. It'll be frustrating as, painful at times, but it is what it is. To me he just looks broken. Next week won't be any better as we'll likely be behind by 14+ for most of the game.

 

Moore is really no longer the player he was when he stepped in for Henne several years ago. He is a so-so backup now at best. So Gase would only go to him if Tannehill was injured and couldn't play.

Doughty obviously isn't ready to play in the NFL and Gase would completely lose the team if he benched Tannehill in favor of a practice squad QB this early in the season.

So basically Tannehill has to remain the starter because he is the best option on the roster at this time. Hopefully by next year they will have a better option, but as far as the 2016 season is concerned, Gase is stuck with the QB even Philbin wanted to replace when he wanted to draft Carr a few years ago.

 

Glad Gase isn't giving in to pressure. Tannehill is still the best QB on the team. Whether or not he has a future in Miami beyond 2016 is a different story. But for now, there's no point in benching him.

I'm not so sure that last part is true anymore. This is the out year for Miami. They're paying him an awful lot of money, and they're not seeing the returns. Combine that with the fact that it doesnt appear that the team is even behind Tannehill at this point. At some point, when the results aren't improving, you've got to make a decision. That decision is coming for Gase relatively quickly. Clearly he's not seeing the improvement that he'd want out of Tannehill, so the decision for Gase comes down to whether he thinks he can win with him, because that decision essentially decides his fate as head coach of the Miami Dolphins. I'd think if you've got Philbin wanting to move away from Tannehill in the past, and if Gase thinks that too, at some point the FO is going to have to make the move. QB's don't grow on trees, they're hard to find, when you think you have one, you've got to keep him, hence the first extension for Ryan, but we're at 5 years, two head coaches, several OC's, if the results aren't there, a chance of scenery might just be best for all to move forward.

He just might get that chance if Gase decides to go in another direction at QB after this season. I don't see them paying Tannehill $20 million next year if Gase decides after this season that he wants to move on from Tannehill.

 

Here is the problem with this theory. The front office clearly felt coaching and offensive line were the problem and not tannehill. he doesnt get that contract if they had questions about him even with the so called out. gase doesnt become our coach if the qb is to question. second, listen to gase. gase is defending tannehill more than fin d and resnor combined over the last few years. Gase likes tannehill. he likes his intelligence, he likes his arm, he likes how he sees the game. during the game today they quoted gase as saying "tannehill carried this team on his back in the 4th quarters of three of our first four games. he's our leader." this isnt about buildding up tannehill's confidence either. this is just the truth as gase sees it. he is pretty much an open book when it comes to the dolphins and how he sees the team

the guy who is in trouble right now is chris foerster. we may have a new ol coach very soon. right now the offensive line is what gase sees as problem number one. gase needs an offensive line to run his offense. tannehill can run his offense. gase seems pretty confident about that. but the oline has to be adequate at the very least

Anyone who thinks he should be benched, doesn't understand the issues of this team. Anyone who doesn't see that he will never be better than average, doesn't understand football.

 

Even if he takes him out he will be back in the lineup within a month, there is no way an old Matt Moore can take the beating that this OL is handing out.

I'd bet money right now that Moore doesn't want to be the starter.

So we are stuck with him until the end of the season but I doubt he is back next year at the $20M price tag.

 

I dont know man. I think you give him that contract because you needed to see more. The price, is what it is. That's the going rate for a QB, so that's what you have to pay.

As for Gase, this was a good spot for him really. Sure, the roster and the FO is a bit of a mess, but you have a QB that everyone is unsure of. So, you either fix him, or move on and you get the chance to get your own guy at QB to tie yourself to. His comments about Tannehill, sure he's supporting his guy. He's got to. He's the leader of this team, and he's trying to get everyone to buy in. Also, he knows Tannehill hasn't had that support and appears to lack confidence out there at times. So, build him up. Who really knows what he thinks? I'm sure Adam Gase is the only one, and a few others on the staff. It's easy to say all those things, then pull the rug out from underneath him when the results just aren't there. Happens all the time in this league. Be interesting to see how it goes.

As for Foerester, I agree. He should have been replaced on the bye IMO. Sure the OL lacks talent, but we've seen several instances the last two weeks of guys just standing there waiting for someone to block as a defender runs right by, almost unnoticed as the OL is completely oblivious. They aren't always getting beaten physically, it looks like they're just lost and unprepared at times.

 

You are making a big assumption in think Tannenbaum has a ****ing clue what he's doing. Just sayin.

 

If I were Tannehill I would retire after this season, go to UM medical school and live happily ever after. He's not that kind of guy though.

This team has gotten worse under the leadership of Tannebaum. So stating that the front office clearly thought coaching and the offensive line were the problem and not Tannehill proves absolutely nothing.

If the Dolphins had a front office that actually has a clue of what is wrong with this team and how to fix it, I would gladly accept your argument. Since this front office obviously has no idea how to build a good football team, I don't trust Tannebaum at all when it comes to determining if Tannehill is the real problem or not.

 

Sometimes things are at their worst before they are at their best. We have absolutely nothing to gain by changing qbs. Gase knows this. How can he make a case to bail on tanny and get a new qb if he gave up on him after 5 games. Also, Gase has made it clear that Tanny is not being held back in any way. If this season is a failure, he will have a prefect scapegoat when the season is a total disaster. But if tanny turns the corner, it could save the franchise. There is absolutely no chance of Matt Moore saving anything. And what qb would want to play for Gase if he gives up on his qbs?

I wouldn't take this as written in stone necessarily, Gase is smart enough to know not to reveal his hand, saying something like "we'll see" would just create a media **** storm.

If things don't change, he's going to have to bench him.

 

Garropolo is much better than Tannehill. So if he chooses to go to New England, Tannehill might get a SB ring but it would be as a backup QB and not as the starting QB of the Patriots.

 

:lol: I would say there's absolutely no way he is here next year let alone in 10 yrs but given the complete incompetence of this franchise, nothing no matter how obvious can be taken as a certainty. Im 95% sure even the Dolphins aren't stupid enough to pay a 20-25th best QB franchise type money. Despite stupid move after stupid move I refuse to believe Gase will allow us to pass up the opportunity to draft a top 3 talent (we are picking in the top 3, likely 1 if not for the miracle Browns win) when your current QB is consistently ranked in the 20s after 5 yrs in the league and has failed to lead his team to a winning record all 5 seasons. No matter who is at fault the QB has at least partial blame and you cannot pay a QB 15+ million a year to lead you to 3-13. Whats the point? They better use that top 3 pick on a QB. Thats the quickest way to turn this around. If we stick with Tannehill we will continue to feel like 8-8 would be an incredible season.

 

He will make way more money with a lot less work just hanging on as a back-up somewhere. Besides that, if someone like Osweiler can get a big contract as well as Tannehill himself then there is still a chance Tannehill can catch on as a starter somewhere else. He is a tough guy, incredibly durable and would be a hell of a back-up QB for a good team. He just has no business starting for the Dolphins next season. They can draft a much better, younger prospect next season and use the money saved to try to fix some of their many, many gaping holes. Biggest problem is Tannenbaum is the last guy you want running a rebuild. Sucks to be a Fins fan these days. You would be hard pressed to find a team in a worse position going forward. Browns fans will be saying "at least we arent Miami" if we dont have a decent off-season next year. That starts with finding a talented QB.

 

Watch the tape with a stopwatch. If Tannehill doesn't get rid of the ball in less than 2.5 seconds there's a pretty good chance he's sacked. Good luck with that. His receivers seldom have their heads turned in 2.5 seconds. lol

 

actually the point was that the two influences of power who have a say in the direction of the team, the GM and the coach both back Tannehill. Who cares what the fans think. They are clueless and have no say in what we are doing. now if you want to take the conspiracy approach that gase is saying positive things about tannehill (but secretly thinking he sucks) and basically laying the blame on other units, then by all means but it really isnt anything more than projecting and wishing for it to be so. Gase is pretty straight forward. he says actually what he means and he's honest about his assessments. and there is nothing the guy really hides. he's the polar opposite of bill parcells

my favorite was when jurell casey (IIRC) basically walked the tackle and guard back together and still got the sack. 40% of our oline couldnt block one guy even if it is casey who is an absolute beast
