So as far as the combine is concerned, seems things didn't quite go our way concerning the #14 pick.
Kevin White solidified himself as a top ten pick. Thats not good on multiple levels. 1) he won't be there for our pick. 2) The Jets, unless some horrible (but awesome) fate occurs, will now either get White, Marriota, or Cooper. None of which I want to see.
Danny Shelton went out and did what he had to do, so he'll go top ten as well.
Shaq Thompson, for a small RB converted to LB, ran a particularly unimpressive 40 at 4.7. For a guy whose size was the main question mark, clocking in slower than expected was disastrous.
Bernardrick McKinney also did not blow anyone away today either.
These 4 guys were some of the more consistent names I saw floating around for us #14 and none of them look like viable options anymore. Obviously theres a lot of time for things to change but as of right now it's looking like we may be going with a luxury at 14 because our needs won't match up. Jaelen Strong and Vic Beasley will be highly considered now IMO.
What'd you guys see?

Draft is a crap shoot, anything can happen.

I hope the Jets draft Mariota. Badly.
For everyone that rises someone falls. So I'm not worried. At #14 its more about making the right pick than targeting a specific player IMO. We need help just about everywhere. No position would disappoint me aside from punter, kicker, QB or offensive line.
To add on, I think Beasley would be an amazing pick. Personally I'd move Dion Jordan to SOLB where his coverage skills could be used more effectively. He'd also probably be a better edge rusher since he'd be less predictable in terms of when he is coming and when he is dropping back.
Beasley would be a pass rush specialist early in his career but a damn good one. Eventually he'd be starting at WOLBfinsbuck719 likes this. -

I like Vic Beasley, if we get him at 14 I'd be very happy.

Today is DB's, let's see how it goes... I just hope Trae Waynes doesn't blow everyone away and winds up becoming a top ten pick as well. If that happens, I'd guess we'd go after one of: WR Jaelen Strong or DeVante Parker, RB Melvin Gordon, ILB Eric Kendricks, or S Landon Collins. I actually wouldn't be too upset if that scenario played out, it wouldn't be as if we passed on some amazing can't-miss talent (maybe DGB, as I doubt they'd target him, but he'll likely fall a bit either way).

Someone will fall. There are still 13 players ahead of you. You can write down 13 names and some good players will be there at 14. Everyone isn't going to just start picking WRs. Some of these guys need offensive lineman and quarterbacks. That's 4 picks that aren't competing with us right there. And we still have no clue how FA is about to look.

I'd tend to think that Danny Shelton will be available at #14 based on what he did at the combine. I'm not sure he really put the "surprising athleticism" in the "big man with surprising athleticism" label. He didn't hit the same kind of marks that Marcell Dareus, BJ Raji, Dontari Poe, etc. did.
He looks more like a normal space-eater, and there's a lot of guys out there who are capable of filling that role this off-season.ckparrothead likes this. -
I've been loving Waynes as well and would love to get him. Wondering if Jalen Collins is ready to start in the NFL and where we could get him?
Just watched him do the pass catching drill and he did not do well. Hands not great.Alex13 likes this. -
Sheldon Richardson went higher than them because of his versatility to play end. But even he only went #13 overall, which is where Aaron Donald went. And Aaron Donald, despite his stature issues, had the best tape anyone had seen since Ndamukong Suh.
Ra'Shede Hageman kept being graded a 1st rounder. He fell to the 2nd round.
You have to go back to Marcell Dareus, Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy to find guys that went real high. There's one guy this year that could fit that bill and that's Leonard Williams.
If Danny Shelton goes ahead of pick #14 it will only be JUST ahead of us. It'll be the Saints at #13. I'm not sure I see any other fit happening before Miami's pick.Rocket2981 and Disgustipate like this. -

I guess a lot of people are thinking that the Chicago Bears could take Danny Shelton at #7. It's possible.
But I think they're going to re-sign Stephen Paea and #7 might just be too high considering they'd have Paea and Jay Ratliff. I mean if you get to pick #7 and the guys off the board are Mariota & Winston (#1 and #2), Leonard Williams (Jags #3), Kevin White (Raiders #4), Amari Cooper (Redskins #5) and Dante Fowler (Jets #6)...I would think they'd be more tempted by a Randy Gregory, Shane Ray, Vic Beasley or Andrus Peat. And if Fowler is on the board definitely him.
So basically I think it'll be the Bears at #7 or the Saints at #13, and both may be more likely than not to pass on Shelton. Then Miami at #14. -
I really think the thing to watch out for is for Miami to move up and take Amari Cooper.
They're probably going to get rid of Brian Hartline and for now it looks like they're going to try and make one more season work with Mike Wallace. That means in 2015 they have only Jarvis Landry and Mike Wallace and in 2015 they have only Jarvis Landry as they'll probably be getting rid of Wallace rather than pay him another $11.5 million.
So the position is one they'll have very high on the need list. Immediate need for a #2/#3, and the need for a #1 one year from now.
I think Tannenbaum is probably one of those guys like Ozzie Newsome that believes you take the best player available but when you have a need then you move around to make sure the best player available is also the guy you need. In this case there will be a need at wide receiver and they'll have a very high grade on Amari Cooper, so they could very well go up and get him.Rocket2981, GARDENHEAD, resnor and 2 others like this. -

Trae Waynes is a man of his word. He said he'd do 20 bench reps and then he ripped off 19. He said he'd run in the 4.3's and he did a 4.35.
Gotta hand him that. He's a consistent, predictable performer. The kind of player I'd love to draft at #14 overall if they stay put. But I'm thinking they won't stay put.Brasfin and Aqua4Ever04 like this. -

Wish I had higher resolution on where DGB will be drafted. If I knew he's available in the 2nd round then I go for Waynes. -
I think the chances are strong that Tannenbaum will move up or move down. He's probably operating with similar philosophies as Ozzie Newsome when it comes to taking the best available player but manipulating your draft position such that the best available player is a guy you need.PhinFan1968 and 77FinFan like this. -

I hope so...Ireland's sploosh was funky...Tannenbaum / Hickey can do better IMHO.
Edit: I meant to quote your post right above mine CK. -
I think we probably need to add "Team Captain" to the list of check marks for the draft. I think Hickey took 3 last year. -
