From the Desk of Peter Kiper
It’s almost time for the GML 2013 draft to start. The Pittsburgh Steelers are on the clock and every team in the league is waiting with bated breath. Who will they take? Numerous draft beatniks have followed my lead and declared Cornerback Dee Milliner out of Alabama is heading to the steel city.
I think it’s a possibility because of the precedence set by the Green Bay Packers a couple seasons ago when they took Patrick Peterson first overall and everyone was claiming AJ Green would be a Packer, of course the man making that call now runs the Washington Redskins and turned them even more corporate if that was even possible.
Don’t believe me? Why do you think the Hogettes have retired? They certainly don’t fit the image Coke Zero wants for the ‘Skins. In hindsight the Packers made a good move, but would the fans prefer Peterson or a top three receiver?
That’s why I think the Steelers ignore their need at corner and take the best player on the board. It’s a go big or go home scenario and they’re going to add some beef to that line up and take Shariff Floyd and leave the Raiders dumbfounded or just dumb.
You can be sure my brother Randy and that hack of a journalist Canglazer will give you their opinion, even if it doesn’t matter. If you hear any speculations from McShay just know now that it’s wrong.
So keep tuning in as the best of the GML Press, yes and the rest give you their predictions and grade them.
Peter Kiper prediction: DT Sharrif Floyd, Florida
Steelers you are on the clock...

Standing by Patterson #1 overall in a shocker.

Re: The GML Press (Kiper & Kiper, Canglazer & McShay) at the 2013 Draft
Dee Milliner, welcome to the Steel City. -
He is dropping out. The loss is just too much.
Also what gives with the Steelers. Why did they trade for the #1 pick if they only planned on trading down? -
Canglazer: Rams GM knew when to fold em. Traded Trumaine Johnson before he got busted for DUI. Traded Trent Richardson before the NFL invoked the rule on him that he has to wear a dress when running the ball or it's a 15 yard penalty. #geniusinstlouis

Canglazer: And the Pats are up next. Perusing their roster. I feel dirty. Offensively, they are going with Mallett/Moore combo. After trading away future HOF Tom "I look sexy with long hair" Brady. It's pretty clear that the hole on offense though is at wide receiver. The tackles are where the value is at this point in the draft but the Pats don't need one. Looks like they have converted to a 43 defense, so DT remains a possibility here. Their DB's are also a little shaky, but their GM added four in FA so I doubt they take one here. For my money, it's either WR or DT. With the 29th pick as well, expect them to go with the one they don't here. That makes sense. I'm making too much sense... I need to say something funny. Two jews walk into Bloomingdales.....

Peter Kiper: Can't say I argue with what Pittsburgh did by taking Milliner, he is clearly the best prospect in terms of ability and potential. I still question whether he was the best overall prospect for the first overall pick. However this year we don't have a receiver on the level of AJ Green to make a direct Patrick Peterson vs AJ Green comparison here. I'll give this high marks but still question whether a cornerback should go first overall. Although I did hear the Steelers tried hard to trade out of the pick.
Kiper Grade: A
Next we have the Patriots who I have taking Sharrif Floyd, but like the Steelers they have an unknown quantity listed as their starting quarterback so don't be surprised if they throw caution to the wind and actually draft Geno to compete with the former third rounder Ryan Mallett. -
*****Kiper Update*****
Put down your spaghetti and pot roast folks, the Patriots are close to missing the deadline to get their card in, this could mean the Raiders might have a chance to get their man. Imagine if you will Brady's tuck is ruled a fumble here, because this could finally give the Raiders some much needed revenge if they are able to slip their card in first. Could it happen?
Not a chance, it'd be like Shane Lechler signing with the Texans... not going to happen. :shifty:Paul 13 likes this. -
You may just comment on the draft, but the Kipers have always given out grades. Doesn't mean any other reviewer does, and last year Peter added an album to the draft by using songs as an allegory for picks made by teams. Some liked it, some didn't care.
-
But of course he can go before that. Should he decide that he couldn't hold it any longer.
(Boik is like the producer of the show, we are supposed to stay in character in this thread :shifty:) -
@Canglazer @ Peter Kiper Shocker! Tavon @ 2! Someone has a mancrucsh! Pats outsmarting everyone again or outsmarting themselves?

Randy Kiper: And the draft starts right on cue with the Pittsburgh Steelers welcoming Dee Milliner to the Steel City. Milliner brings some attitude and toughness to that Steeler secondary that they are just desperate for. Is it the best player overall? No but Milliner is definitely in my top five. Milliner has good size for a defensive back and has proven that he can cover players that have the size advantage over him. With two experienced safeties in Louis Delmas and Ryan Clark already on the roster, it will allow Milliner to continue playing aggressively. Expect an All-Pro corner out of this kid, you can take that to the bank too!
Kiper Grade: A
The Patriots are coming up next and I have them penciled in to pick Sharrif Floyd however don't be surprised if they shock the world with a Cordarrelle Patterson selection or something. You just never know what that crazy Pats GM is up to. Some are concerned Oakland will jump them but I hear they've been hitting snooze on the alarm clock for the past hour.JMHPhin and Ophinerated like this. -
Randy Kiper: And there you have it, folks. The crazy Pats GM went up to the draft podium to select the next big thing in Tavon Austin. I'm an Austin fan as well but when you have the number two overall draft selection? No, just no... The Patriots had an opportunity to either pursue a trade down with any team that wanted Luke Joeckel, you know he isn't making it past Oakland at this point. However they went and selected a guy who probably be should selected in the top ten at the very highest? I just can't agree with this selection but they're getting a pure playmaker in Tavon Austin. Wes Welker is gone, Aaron Hernandez is gone, and hell.. Tom Brady is gone. We're looking a completely revamped Patriots offense with Matt Moore at the helm so we'll see how effective the combination of Moore, Austin, Lloyd, Gronkowski, and Fasano are for the Patriots. It's always a risk selecting a wide receiver in the draft but when you invest the number two overall draft selection? Just not a smart move when the guy isn't going to be Larry Fitzgerald or Calvin Johnson.
Kiper Grade: C+
The Raiders are officially on the clock, I'm predicting a trade down but we'll just have to see if they even wake up in time to make the selection. -

again, knew it would be a WR or DT Figured Patterson though at WR, can't blame the selection of Austin. I put the grade at a B-. I hear this selection has set many dolphin blooded GM's on suicide watch. #inflatablepillowsunderbridgesinstalledinsouthfloridaBoik14 and Ophinerated like this. -

And the Faiders are on the clock. They have been trying to trade down. I suspect they won't have much luck now that Austin is off the clock. They have so many holes. This pick could literally go anywhere. Hence the trade down. Do we see our first qb taken? They still have Palmer and his $15m salary. The Faiders have done nothing this offseason. Maybe they'll pass out of shame. Maybe they'll take a punter. Maybe Al Davis isn't really dead. Mach Davis?
