``Same.''
Not even the playlist you take into any given game?
``Plays are based on who we're playing. I don't think we'll have a different scope of things,'' Henning said. ``You obviously know different people see things differently. They read things differently. When it comes down to the quarterback, there's judgment that takes place in the game. So, you might see him do something that [Henne] didn't do. You also might see him do something that [Henne] did do that may not be as good. That's what you live with whenever you make that kind of change.''

You know, I always thought the plays called were a little strange but this just proves that Henning is the type of coordinator who will thrive with a QB that is accurate. All of the routes in this playbook call for precision throwing skills and not necessarily a strong arm (although the sideline throws we see often are going to be tough for Penny).
I'm guessing Penny is going the thrive in this offense and that the staff will end up giving up on Henne. Hope that doesn't come and bite us in the *** when he goes to a team with a different scheme. Not saying it will, I'm just hoping it wasn't the OC the whole time.

A good coach can adapt to the players, not need the perfect players to be successful...Henning is ***. This is proof.

"Look at me I'm Dan Henning and I like to "design my offense around the defense." I like to be a chameleon with my offense! I am such a genius!"
Sounds like ****ing Paul P from last year. He would adapt to the offense instead of imposing his defense.
Instead of Henning FORCING the defense to get out of the Cover 2 we have been playing against, he allows them to play it. FORCE them to change to a cover 3, FORCE them to get out of their "safe and stable defense."
Hell I dont even see why we wouldn't run a Post, Dig, and Streak, and Post-Corner with our wideouts in a play. Thats forcing the defense to make a CHOICE in a Cover 2. Henning is letting the defense not make a CHOICE.ToddsPhins likes this. -

Are we really going to do this again? By "this" I mean seizing upon something that really isn't all that noteworthy as such an astounding, damning indictment?
Not only did the playbook not change, but it's probably got conservatively 80% of the same plays as every other playbook that every other professional NFL team uses.
People are acting like Dan Henning installed a 1980's West Coast Offense that's full of 3 and 5-step drops and short timing routes, and it's really asinine. Deep passes are a fundamental part of both Dan Henning's offense, and his entire offensive tree. Chad Henne didn't utilize them organically because he didn't get his reads that far, and the offensive staff isn't going to sit there and keep dialing up called deep passes when Henne would sit there and throw it regardless of coverage. -

Keep the blinders on if you want. It's the same offense, same philosophy, same methodology, same plays, and this "80 percent of the plays are the same as every playbook" excuse is the biggest red herring statement I've seen in months.
How the quarterbacks are taught to read the field and make their decisions is a key to what an offense is. What plays get called in what situations is a key to what an offense is. What routes combinations are favored in the passing game is a key to what an offense is. The freedom and method for changing the play at the line, changing the protection at the line, changing the snap count, those make an offense what it is.
Dan Henning and Tony Sparano both said a LONG time ago that this offense was not going to change because Chad Henne was in the game as opposed to Chad Pennington. And it didn't. The propensity toward max protect didn't change. The key reads on the receiver progressions didn't change. The play calling didn't change.thejetssuck, ToddsPhins, Frumundah Finnatic and 2 others like this. -
Henning is a conservative, boring coordinator who needs a like minded QB for his "system". Only thing is, now with our changes at OL he wont be able to rely on the Wildcat to do the dirty work. At least, I hope he had learned his lesson on that....
Face it, Henning is the laughing stock of OCs. How do any of you justify him "dialing up" playactions on 3rd and long....CONSISTENTLY......
He is a bum, and he has to go for us to have any real hope offensively. -
People think that Bill Walsh invented the West Coast offense and then found Joe Montana to execute it when that's exactly backwards. Walsh built the West Coast around Montana's strengths: his feet, field presense, and accuracy. He admitted openly his preferred type of offense and quarterback was a down-the-field, Joe Namath-kind of guy. But he knew what he had in Montana and did what the job description of coach tells you to do: adapt.Oghma likes this. -

Ok.....
Look at the style of offense Miami Dolphins had prior to Dan Marino. Then look at the style of offense they had in 1984 and 85.
Im not saying Henne is Dan Marino. What I am saying is, the coaching staff on hand, changed their system to fit their players....not the other way around. If Shula and his OC (I cant remember who it was)...could see what strengths they had....and changed according to those strengths....why cant Sparano and Henning?
Why are they so steadfast to mold the players to what they want to do.... -

my point was its not the playcalling or philosophy its the fact that we have holes that are due to personnell. you can try to cover it up and overcome it but the NFL is brutal about exploiting your weaknesses and if you dont have a QB who can be effective in a pass only offense there's only so much you can doLast edited: Nov 12, 2010 -

They've been forced to pass much more often...(on average 7 more attempts per game than in 2008)...but the offense is still based around run first. Thats why we see so many PA passes....that look so stupid.
Henning hasnt changed his play book to reflect an increase in passing....he calls the same passing plays he would if we could run the ball effectively. Same routes....same PA Passing.
Think about it. We cant run against Cover 2. Is it any wonder our offense sucks. We are always at the dis advantage.....
Peyton Manning would do a better job in this offense then Henne...dont get me wrong...but he wouldnt look nearly as good as he does in Indy's offense. Conversley, if we were a top 5 rushing team...Henne would look a hell of alot better then he does now. -
I'm not even sure its as much their "decision to not change" as its their inability to do so. Henning is an old dog...... and Sparano is a pup. -

Woody Hayes would have been so proud of Henning.
THe same Woody Hayes Parcells revered so much he asked a mutual friend to set up a chance to meet the legendary coach so they could talk football.
