Use a single space after a sentence, not 2 spaces.

2 spaces were meant for typewriters only. The letters on a typewriter are monospaced. Letters on a computer are not monospaced.

People tend to mix up e.g. and i.e. i.e. does not stand for "for example" it stands for "that is". e.g. is "for example".

But, I still put two spaces after a period. It just doesn't look right with one.

I corrected the one on top and left the bottom as is. They look the same don't they? That's because the this site actually corrects you. What you're seeing that looks right to you, is actually one space. You can quote my post and see the difference for yourself.DolfanJake, SICK, MikeHoncho and 2 others like this. -

Well, well, well. I never noticed that. Mind you, I was brought up with the classic Word Perfect, the one that ran on my 486 DX super computer with a 2400 baud modem. Yeah, there was no mouse in that program, and Wolfenstein 3D was the best game in the world!
Anyways, out of habit I will probably still use two spaces after a period. Like this.

EDIT: :tantrum:
Here is the masterful Word Perfect classic for all the younger guys.

Your wrong bro. The extra space definately effects the sentence. The difference is negligable; its an allusion. Also, I have issues with the sites you chose to site. Who looks into these things anyways?

I always did the two space thing, but I'm also old enough that I learned to type (not well mind you) on a typewriter not a computer. I would guess that the people who are most surprised by the old rule are simply the product of computers, either due to age or other circumstances.
As for the point of the thread, I struggle with affect and effect. No matter how many times I read the rule, I generally have to double check when I post something. I also see many people incorrectly use their and they're. And I'm not sure if this is within the constraints of the thread, but I see people struggle understanding the difference between causation and correlation. This comes up often with the stats posted on this site.Fin D likes this. -
