I've honestly got to disagree, and not just for homerist reasons. Henne was consistently forced to deal with the defense dropping the ball, and taking the offense on his shoulders to craft a come from behind victory. When Sanchez was put in the same position, he failed every time (including in the playoffs).
Sanchez is a good QB, but as of now, he does not seem like the kind of player who can engineer a comeback.
Oh well, it's an opinion piece, agree to disagree for me I suppose.

That's not sound logic. There was a lot more to the situations than that. Henne did not have near the rushing attack Sanchez had behind him at that point in the season. I won't even get into the defensive differences. Sanchez was not asked to win a single game during that stretch. He was coddled basically because they knew what would happen if he threw too many times. When Sanchez threw a lot, the Jets lost. It's that simple. Henne had some bad games but he did singlehandedly win at least one [New England]. What game did the Jets win off of Sancez' arm?

The proof is in the pudding .Until Henne proves himself to be better than Sanchez which he hasnt so far IMO we would have to say that Sanchez is leading by a nose in

Henne to me was a far superior field General, and Sanchez showed a knack for finding the deeper passes.
I'd say for a Rookie he did ok but he was held in check many a time due to mental mistakes. Mistakes that sometimes stick with a Qb so the book is still out on him as well as Henne... -
I don't think you can evaluate these two against each other based on the end of last season. Henne had games put on his shoulders and Sanchez was coddled against backup teams. That should be the last thing you look at when you compare the two. I really think Tim was winging it on this one.

The defense in those last few games were HORRIBLE. Aside from the Buffalo game, I can't really fault Henne for any of those losses towards the end of the season. Not to mention he only played the first half against Pittsburgh.

What do you mean Henne hasn't proved he is better than Sanchez so far? First of all, Sanzhez had better receivers last year than Henne did. Now with that in mind, Henne had better numbers than Sanchez across the board...in one less game.

New here so Hello. I would like to see what Mr. Tim thought if the Cheesecake Heads actually had to play real football games to make it into the playoffs. Fat boy Ryan will not even recognize the fact they were given two games as a gift. Gotta love it. Don't worry, Ryan will implode when Sanchez really screws the team up this year.:)

Even given two games, they took it and ran with it pretty well. Ryan's a fat $$$$$$$ but he knows defense really well and i fully expect them to be good. Don't underestimate them

The contest begins this year. This is the first year we will have an oline on par with them and our WRs have been amongst the worst in the league. Our WR corps is now at least the best in the division. So, I think we'll see in '10 who is better. No excuses. Both have one season of starts under their belt...let the games begin.

Never underestimate Ryans D but the one who has the most poiints on the scoreboard at the end of the game usually wins. Sanchez will prove the point I have believed since he was at USC. Mark Sanchez is the Anti Point man. Chews a kick asssss hot dog though.

I agree with the idea that Sanchez looked very promising last year, particularly toward the end of the season. However, if we're using the pudding for proof, then I must ask what pudding you're looking at. Henne had a better QB rating (75 to 63), a better TD/INT ratio (12/14 vs 12/20), more yards (2800 vs 2400), same sacks, fewer fumbles (4 vs 10), better completion percentage (61 vs 54), nearly identical yards per completion (6.4 vs 6.7)and all with one fewer game (14 vs 15), as well as a less dominant OL receivng corps. That's the pudding I'm looking at, which, by the way, I got from NFL.com.
Now, I'm not saying Henne is clearly better just because he had better numbers, but there certainly is no proof in the pudding that he isn't. Sanchez was no more responsible for the Jets late season run than Flacco was for Baltimore last year. Good running games and great defensive play tends to do that for rookie QBs, just ask Ben Rothlisberger. -

Thank You. The entire Ryan Family knows defense but when you turn them into HC, the mouth goes non stop. They commence to eat their young and destroy their own team from within. Just give him time, the Ryan curse should be surfacing earlier then usual with Rexy Boy.:up:
Sanchez is scheduled to enter the Nathans hot dog eating championship this year. I am pumped for that. He is just like his coach, they both love putting long pieces of meat in their mouths, usually, its their own.:lol::lol:

Henne was more consistent than Sanchez, but Henne hasn't shown enough to convince me he can be an elite QB. He's got the arm, he's generally pretty consistent, but his penchant for ints is very troubling. He's like a strong armed Jay Fiedler, without the athleticism, SO FAR. Show me Henne.

He did actually qualify his assessment. He stated that had he just gone by the regular season he would have ranked Henne above Sanchez. However he chose to include Sanchez' playoff performance, which ultimately swayed him to rank the two the way he did.
Like it or not Sanchez did well once the Jets were in the playoffs.

His offensive line and running game really helped him alot as did his Wr's but yeah, he did good.
Henne has a weapon now and thats GREAT!

I wouldn't go as far as to say we have the best WR corps in the east. At least not yet.

Yeah the Dolphins Wr corps have the best Wr in the AFC East but the others are barely scratching the surface and the TE's are nothing special
I still think that the ability to bring a team back from a deficit, with piss poor play by the defense, outweighs those stats. And when Indy opened up on the Jets, Sanchez was unable to bring them back into the thick of it with his arm. Henne did that throughout the regular season.
It's open to interpretation, and makes an interesting discussion either way. I just posted the article because I figured it'd get people talking about it.
I just don't agree with the assessment. 2 good games does not make up for an entire season of mediocrity/awfulness.

I can see it going either way really. Both had good games, both had bad games. This season will be the battle, not last.
Us homers will put Henne in front, but the article itself was fair enough. When it comes out next year we will see a different tune hopefully. :)
Yeah I agree. Looking at supporting cast, Henne was at a disadvantage. We lost Ronnie to injury. We had Ginn's.....ineffectiveness. Camarillo coming back from an ACL injury and a rookie in Hartline.
Neither can one overlook the uncanny health that the Jets' OL has had for the past several years.
Like you, I expect a much improved offense this year. I can't wait to see how we look with Brandon Marshall catching passes.
I'm hoping the Jets start out 0-4.

I'd hate to be the guy to lean on stats, but I'm gonna do it. Ive debated Jes fans on this topic on a few occasions, and Henne beat Sanchez in every stat category. Yards, accuracy, QB rating, td to int ratio.. everything.
Also, Henne has the stronger arm with the ability to hit a deeper pass than sanchez. We'll see this year what happens, but I don't think the jets will be able to run the ball the same this year, therefore putting more pressure on Sanchez to deliver. I'm mean really, in week 17 Sanchez threw for 60 yards aganst the Bengals. 60. And Henne had 3 of his last 4 games throwing for 300 yards or more (thanks defense for the big point deficits). No way LT, Green and McKnight will be able to run the ball like last years Jets RBs. Plus their line lost Faneca (debateable about his ability to still be as effective), I personally think his release hurts the jets.
Also, Sanchez is coming off knee ligament surgery and hasn't even started running yet.
While I respect Tim Graham, I think he might be being hoodwinked by the Jets playoff run.
