4pm Thursday is the deadline to make trades. The talk has been for the Dolphins to go after a wide receiver. But I'm not seeing it. It would take too long for a receiver to acclimate himself to this offense to make a difference this year. May as well wait for free agency next year and not have to give up a pick PLUS the big $.
Instead the two positions where I can see us looking at adding talent are defensive end / nickel rusher and corner back. These are two positions where you can add and have them make differences this season. With the injury status of Marshall the rest of the year uncertain and the lack of dependable pass rush opposite Cam Wake, I definitely think Jeff Ireland will be making some inquiries. Who would be available?
Does adding a Greg Hardy make sense? The Panthers GM is gone and they may be looking at adding picks next draft.
I would think teams like the Chargers, Chiefs and Jags may be looking at selling. But I'm skimming their rosters and not seeing fits to our puzzle.
Maybe an Antwan Barnes as a situational rusher?
Brandon Graham from the Eagles who may also be looking to sell? Think he had a career high four tackles today playing for new DC Todd Bowles.
Jason Babin also from the Eagles?
Darryl Tapp?

Dwight Freeney? I think he could be an option too but Indy continues to remain in the hunt so who knows.
-
I like your thinking about picking up one of the Eagles DE's, other than a pass rush threat getting some value from Matt Moore would be a move especially since his value might be at it's possible highest. WR and CB I see them waiting until next off-season to address.

Trade Deadline October 30th Speculation Thread
As someone who lives in Charlotte and watches/hears/sees Greg hardy every week, we DON'T want to trade for him.Larryfinfan and first&goal like this. -
Yeah no to Greg Hardy either... He does nothing for us and frankly I don't see a reason to add to the already deep awesome defensive line. I mean Vernon is really coming on and Kheeston Randall and Tony McDaniel filled in nicely.

Jason Pierre Paul's stock has to be way down. He seemed weak on that dunk after his pick 6. The Giants may want to move him for someone with more elevation.

KC could move Bowe, Moeaki, Flowers, or anyone else of value. That team is terrible but has some players.
Oakland maybe moves a DHB?
Could see a St Louis moving Jackson as rumored...?
Could see Jacksonville dealing Lewis or Rashean Mathis.Paul 13 likes this. -
Flowers would be interesting...we do still meet Tom Brady twice.
Doubt any of the WRs could learn the terminology fast enough to merit a pick.djphinfan likes this. -
I am not advocating or saying who should be acquired, or who we could trade for acquiring more draft picks, etc.
I am simply of the mindset, if any trades happen I can understand where the FO is coming from.
But the feeling right now I get a vibe of is that this NFL trade deadline will come and pass without much interest from any team. -
This team should look for DBs and WRs. Supposedly the Dolphins tried to trade for Jeremy Maclin in the preseason. Might be worth another look, maybe the Eagles will sell low on him. -
Agree the Eagles could be a good partner if they will deal Maclin but he would likely cost more then Bowe since Maclin still has a few years on his deal. IMO theyre more likley to deal Brandon GrahamToddPhin likes this. -
He will be the Jest starting QB after their bye. -
I think the position in demand is 2nd tight end..we're getting nothing there..I just can't believe Egnew can't see the field over clay. -
Dwayne Bowe is the only person I'd trade for right now, and even then, only for the right price (3rd rounder)
-
I'd be shocked to see us land Bowe.
-
We need to add size to this wr corps and he's the player most likely to be available. -
At some point, you Bowe/Marshall lovers will realize we need a different kind of receiver. Hell most of you guys have been wrong about Ireland, Philbin, Tannehill, Hartline, the talent overall on this team (or various combinations of those)....and yet...you still pine for Bowe.
We have a winning record, are 2nd in the division, 5th seed, and have already played some tough teams....all without Bowe/Marshall. Those guys will not flourish on our team first offense. It is against their nature.
It is time to let it go. Move on. Enjoy the ride. And wait for homegrown players, coached right from day one. -

Pouty players will get eaten alive by this coaching staff. Its not worth it. He will not impact the team positively. We have looked to FA/trades for help, Bush, Gaffney, Fasano, Burnett, Dansby, Incognito, Starks, McD, R. Marshall, etc. that is enough. It is time to grow our own. That's the only thing left before the franchise's transformation is complete. Whatever our record is this year is gravy.shouright likes this. -

Bowe has higher YPC in recent history and is definitely more consistent. Marshall stats are spiking this year with Cutler back there because he forces the ball Marshall's way and Bowe is getting terrible QB play (Cassel in on the chopping block and Quinn got concussed today). Theres a minimal difference either way.Fin D likes this. -

I just find it odd, that when you guys thought we were a horrible team, we were told we needed Bowe to be competitive!!!!!!!!!!! Now that its obvious we are a good team, the mantra is still we need Bowe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not every player with stats is right for the team. Bowe falls into that category.
Besides, if we keep winning, the owner will be happy. I don't think Ross believes the difference between a sellout and a half full stadium is Bowe.
Look at this season with our WRs like this: Pretend it is like swinging a bat with weights on it. -
I couldn't have said it better. Our team has chemistry right now. How long will it take to get Bowe integrated into the offense? He would need to learn the play book and start from square 1 just like Gaffney. I just don't believe in sinking that much $$ in the wr spot unless it's a Calvin Johnson type player. Let's face it Bowe is no Megatron. We need to re-sign our core players and maybe go after 1 impact FA this offseason. Otherwise this team needs to build thru the draft!!!!Fin D likes this. -
They were 24th in the redzone last year and Bowe is one of the top guys in the league with running fades.
Also with regards to empty stats the stats say otherwise:
2011 IN WINS/TIES 36 564 15.7 3
2011 IN LOSSES 45 595 13.2 2
http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/splits/_/id/10467/year/2011/dwayne-bowe
2010 IN WINS/TIES 40 701 17.5 10
2010 IN LOSSES 32 461 14.4 5
http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/splits/_/id/10467/year/2010/dwayne-bowe
And to take it 1 step further KC won their division in 2010. Not by coincidence that was Bowe's best year.
In games KC won by a FINAL MARGIN of 0-7 19 245 12.9 42 4
In games KC won by a FINAL MARGIN of 8-14 4 86 21.5 28 0
In games KC won by a FINAL MARGIN of 15+ 49 831 17.0 75 11
So basically theres a direct correlation between what he did and how the team performed in offensive output. Crennel had their ear, he got the message and the results were clear. Imagine what Philbin could do. The players quit on Crennel there last year and theyre showing signs of doing the same thing this year. -
I heard something about Tracy porter maybe being affected by the altitude, good player..but like I said, you gotta let these young ins keep playing together...Don't forget about Jennings and Finley, that connection angle we have have thru scheme, personnel and coaching is real interesting. -
