Tua is not the Problem

Anybody notice David mills on a worse team than the dolphins has almost identical stats to Tua?

Funny enough. Mills was ranked higher than Tua out of HS. He just didn't go to the right college.

If these quotes are credible- and I tend to believe they are- then we just need to move on from Tua. I like Tua but have no long term confidence he's the one. Coaches and players saying he has limitations is all I need to be convinced. They're around him everyday, I'm not.
I know a lot of people don't want to hear it but if we kept Flores and acquired Watson we'd be instant contenders.

Personally, I think the quote is disingenuous. If that player was a free agent and his only offer came from Carolina or Cleveland, do you think he'd sign with one of them or complain off the record that he's wasting his career? I'm cool with the lack of attribution, but this sounds like one of Flo's disciples grumbling about the same thing Flo complained about. I'd bet money, whoever this player is, he's echoing something he heard from Flores and if so, we're screwed - right or wrong. And if Flo was carrying his grievance about a player into the locker room, his termination was necessary.

Yup.. once again: Tannehill can't overcome adversity, and unless you get really lucky you're not winning a SB with such a QB.

Basically it's around 1 in 7 SBs you can say are won without a great QB or a QB that played great that year. This year looks like no exception. If 49ers and Buffalo lose, all remaining QBs are either proven elite (Brady, Mahomes, Rodgers) or playing elite this year (Burrow, Stafford). And Allen has shown promise of getting into that higher level category (this year he was only slightly above average).

We certainly led the Burrow race for the better part of that 2019 season. This franchise continues to screw themselves with stuff like that dating all the way back to Brees. We led the Luck race too and then Matt Moore happened. It's Tuas job next year, but he'll be on a short leash and I'm not entirely opposed to taking another quarterback early in this draft. If Kenny Pickett or Malik Willis is still sitting there when our pick comes around in the draft, we have to at least think about it. I'm not giving up on Tua, but I'm far from comfortable with him.
It would be beneficial for him to put all this drama behind him and focus solely on his craft. This year three is going to be huge for him and from the sound of things, he's got a lot of things from work ethic to arm strength to clean up.

Just to cheer things up a bit (sarcasm).. we're not getting another opportunity like that for quite awhile. This team has many good pieces in place, and any new HC should be capable of getting 9 wins minimum right off the bat. If this new HC fails it will be at least 3-5 years I think before we have a similar opportunity, and note the opportunity has to happen in the right year. Both Jacksonville (if they hypothetically wanted to move away from Lawrence) and Detroit this year are screwed because it's not the right year to pick a QB.

It's not that they literally can't win the SB (obviously), it's that the probability of winning VASTLY decreases. How many such cases can you name in the last 20 or so years? Basically 3: Dilfer, Johnson and Peyton the 2nd time around. Otherwise, every SB was won by a team with a QB that is generally considered elite or a QB that played really well that year. And very important: the team had to rely on that QB to help win them a key game. It's not just that the QB didn't "lose" the game, he actually had to overcome adversity.

Point is: you want to increase the odds, not decrease them. And the difference in odds is HUGE between your Rodgers/Brady/Mahomes types compared to Tannehill or Garropolo. And we'll see if Garropolo can win the SB. He hasn't yet.

Depends on the price. More than a pair of first rounders and I'm really hesitant. Dude just has NOT been getting it done in the playoffs. He would instantly make us a 12+ win team and challenge Buffalo for the East title, but him against elite pressure defense and he collapses and just looks and plays disinterested.
