Its a hip injury now.. not his leg.. not sure why he was bleeding off his nose tho his helmet flying off he may have caught a forearm to the face..

the injuries are just piling on.. i think its time for him to shut it down...

I was shocked when I heard he was playing today.. all indications were he was not practicing and laboring from LSU.. Mississippi State arent pushovers.. they got some big bodies there that can really lay the wood..

 

Assuming he makes a full recovery this is good news for us if his draft stock drops because our first pick may very well end up being 5-10 if we keep winning more games. The injury risk for Tua is there now.. can't be denied, so that has to factor into everyone's calculations.

And we'll need a decent OL anyway no matter who we end up picking. Besides, with Tua being left handed you don't need to get a very good LT, just a very good RT, and those are easier to find with lower draft picks.

 

Teams will hesitate since Tua may NEVER play a full season in the NFL. As for building a great OL, even if that can be done (no mean feat given the modern Miami history of OL draft picks) Tua will still take some shots; that's life in the NFL as a QB.

All that said, if Tua drops to our Steeler pick, go ahead and roll the dice on him.

After edit: Okay, watched the play where he got hurt today, and it wasn't that bad as far as tackles go. If he needs major surgery, I'm thinking wait and use the Texans pick on him. It might be better for him if he goes back to Alabama and tries to have a healthy season to boost his NFL draft stock for 2021.

One other thought; if the backup steps in and plays just fine, then you have to wonder even more about how good Tua really is with such a good team around him.

 

If he makes a full recovery then I roll the dice on him period wherever our first pick is unless it's high enough that we can pick Burrow.

If the injury is the ankle again, that's understandable, he would be prone to hurting it again. If it's a NEW injury, the right hip, then it adds to the concern about Tua being injury prone. In that case, Tua looks like the second coming of Sam Bradford. Good when he is healthy, but rarely healthy.

 

I think todays decision to play Tua, actually hurts Alabama’s recruiting.. Saban is going to have to think long term and shut him down for the season so he can show he cares about his players, than his own records.

 

He is brittle.. its time to call it like it is.. and the hits become 20 x harder in the NFL

 

Hes not returning... he isnt going to risk losing his draft stock much further.. hes guaranteed a first round pick.. he gets injured again, he will lose millions.. and alabama has a tougher schedule next year with Georgia and USC in it (which replaces Duke and South Carolina)..


Besides he is going to let his brother take the reigns in Alabama.

Well he most likely has insurance..which will get him a couple million. i remember that Georgia had 10 million on Todd Gurley’s insurance policy.

A fractured hip has a 8-12 month healing process.. and we dont even know yet if its career ending..

 

He's a junior. He may simply out for another year in college to recover and prove himself.

 

Unless his stock drops precipitously, that would be the dumbest possible decision. Talent wise, he has 0 to prove.

 

If his hip injury is serious, hes not a first rounder anymore. Its a lot for him to decide.

Barring the doctors saying the injury will require more than time to heal after surgery, if he makes it to our pick, it's still a no brainer.

However, its a complicated injury (I am not going to pretend i am doctor to say yay or nay if he'll be fine)

I just feel bad for any athlete that bust their tail to get to the pinnacle, and have something out of their control happen that might compromise their future. Such a freak injury.

 

That's what I was thinking....with a possible career-ending hip injury, he's likely now a 5th to 7th rounder. I almost think another year of college may be his best bet- it really stinks how this played out.

 

It's all going to be down to the medicals and projections. If the medicals project well, no way in hell should he even think about another down of unpaid football. If the medicals are terrible, he still may be best served and being a mid-low round pick rather than chancing a year of college where he may be less effective due to injury or injure himself again. College imo is lose/lose for him at this point.

It's hard to see teams passing on him without just a disastrous outlook, but even then ...

I mean, the Cowboys took LB Jaylon Smith in round 2 even though doctors said his knee damage might not heal. Someone will take the chance. Hell, we would probably do it with the bevvy of picks we have.

 

Based on some quick Google searches, it looks like 6-12 months to recover and a slight chance he is never the same again. Facing a decade plus of a contact sport like football, the odds of another similar injury are certainly worse than someone who works in an office.

Even with a hopeful prognosis from the doctors, I think Tua slips to the second round now, maybe even the early third round if they project him to miss most of the the 2020 NFL season. Even the best recovery time means he won't be able to workout for teams until after the 2020 draft. Who wants to risk a first rounder or high second on a player who might never take the field again?

After edit: Miami is certainly the team to take a chance ('Take Tanked Tua') on Tua in the 2020 draft though. We'll have five picks in the first two rounds and spending the late second rounder on Tua knowing he won't play till 2021 would be a calculated gamble. It's that or grab a project QB here.

 

He has insurance that will guarantee him money... but the fact that he wont be able to participate in the combine or do any throwing drills, he might very well opt to stay, which is beyond crazy to me..

 

And this boys and girls is why he whole theory of losing every game so you can get the 1st overall pick and draft the man of your dreams is dumb. Got a better chance o finding bigfoot.

Grier and his crew absolutely are rebuilding. But they are doing it by acquiring the resources to put themselves in position to do whatever they feel best, on draft day and in FA next year. Not by buying scratch tickets.

?? If we really were tanking and ended up with the #1 pick this Tua injury would mean nothing because we could pick Burrow. So tanking has clear benefits. It would give us the best chance to solve the franchise QB problem we've had since Marino retired.

And unless we're winning out (would be awesome if we did!) I'd still prefer to have as high a pick as possible. It makes a difference.

I was leaning towards Burrow anyway at this point. I like Tua, I hope he recovers. From what i've read he's expected to make a full recovery, but this was an awful injury to sustain, and the likelihood of something else happening to him in the NFL is very possible. Sorry, but the injury prone status is a real thing at this point for him. He'd scare me off until the second round and then i'd take him. The difference between him and Jaylon Smith is that Smith never had a history of injuries until he hurt his knee and Dallas gave him a year to recover. He was also taken in what? The third round? No way to Tua at this point. That guy is going to be shelved for a year before he plays anyway.

 

It says nothing about having the #1 overall pick. In fact if anything it shows why you want it.

Burrow has been putting on a clinic this season- my gut tells me that he's special. I think we should all become Cincinnati fans for the last 7 games and root them onto victory! The only problem is that we'll have to stop winning for it to matter.
