Just got an interesting phone call. The Dolphins are finally listening. They're scheduling a 4 pm press conference -- with Zach Thomas!

It appears the Dolphins will be signing Zach Thomas today to let him end his career properly.

Did anyone not see this coming though? I'm glad its going to happen, but I think we all knew it would. Just a matter of timing.
Now that we're ramping down a bit from Free Agency and the Draft, it makes sense. Get it in before OTAs/camps start to really ramp up.DOLPHAN1 likes this. -
this is awesome just awesome....Zack could have went somewhere else, played another year, made another couple of million...he did all the right things....juiced Jerry Jones for some scratch, told the Pats to eat it.....whats better than that??

Ah-ha, I knew they would finally realize Zac Thomas was our answer at FS. :shifty:
This is good news we were all hoping for, he deserves the honor for all the great years he gave the Dolphins and their fans. Can't wait to see the game they choose to honor him this year.GARDENHEAD likes this. -

Now induct him into the hall of honor at our first game . . . which happens to be primetime vs.the Jets and his treacherous brother in law!

1. Would anyone really be mad if a guy who worked at AIG for 10 years wanted a press conference to say goodbye? He was to that point competition.
2. What would happen if all 99 numbers got retired? -
Actually, I think he could be a huge help as a coach in breaking down films.

It's about time!
And even in corporate America, it's not uncommon for a longtime employee who's leaving to be given a small party in the conference room even if he's going to compete against them in the future. That would be the equivalent of an NFL team holding a PC to thank a player. ZT's situation was less than that. He just wanted to use the pressroom to say goodbye to the fans, but was told "NO". That's the corporate equivalent of a longtime employee being allowed to walk around and say goodbye to the other employees before he left but instead being escorted out by security. It certainly happens but in this case it wasn't like ZT was going to steal team secrets or try to poach employees.
Anyway, I think the FO learned from some of their mis-steps this off-season and will try to rebuild their obviously damaged reputation.
As for retiring number 54, that wouldn't be my preference. I think retiring numbers is somewhat silly. Eventually, if an organization is around long enough, they'll have to start un-retiring numbers to be able to field a team. Placing ZT in the ring of honor is fine. I want current team members and prospective FAs to look around the stadium and aspire to one day have their names up there. I think that is something that motivates certain players. But don't retire anymore numbers.gunn34, Puka-head, dolfan7171 and 2 others like this. -
What would be even better would be to announce him as assistant Lber coach also!
