Man, Vontae had a hell of a game tonight. Hopefully he puts to bed the critics. Even if he has a few mistakes next week, remember the guy is only 21and a rookie. Mistakes are to be expected but the kind of game he had tonight only a few players are capable of. Him and Sean Smith are going to be the best CB tandem we had since Surtain and Madison, maybe even better. We are set for the next seven to ten years at the CB position

Donald Thomas had a great game from what I could see.
Bokamper complimenting Jake Grove and Thomas. Also Shawn Murphy. Said he spent a lot of time looking at those two guards and the center tonight. Said they did a very good job moving people.gafinfan, dolphan117, CashInFist and 3 others like this. -

I'm thinking Smith will start with Davis coming in as the 3rd CB. But what I think doesn't mean a thing.:dunno:adamprez2003 likes this. -
i can't wait to watch the replay tomorrow. i missed the tv tonight. Even more pumped to hear Vontae played great. THat is very encouraging for our young secondary players.

To be honest, look what Troy Williamson did against the Bucs. He looked real good to me last week. The light could be turning on for him much like our pal Ted Ginn. So if Troy Williamson managed to snooker Vontae for a play or two, well, he's turning into a pretty good player.
Laurent Robinson also looks awesome over in St. Louis. Nice trade for them.djphinfan likes this. -
most of his dumb plays in the first game was on ST

I haven't watched the game yet but I don't think one game will put his critics to bed because he's been doing some (negative) things for years in college. He was an inconsistent performer in college in my opinion despite what some of his statistics might suggest. He has the ability to be a lock down cornerback in this league but I think he has to work more on the field. I saw him have mental lapses in college, blow coverage and disappear in run support after one hit that was a momentum swinger. However, I've seen games where he's absolutely dominated while playing on an island with no help over the top. Like I said, I think over the last few years, he's been an inconsistent performer and because of that, I think he went in the mid twenties. I do think he was one of the better cornerbacks however, especially when it came down to potential. I just think he needs to put it all together. Will he do so at this level? I'm not ready to say yes or no, especially not after two pre-season games.
Re: Last week - he wasn't great but he wasn't bad either in my opinion. He was inconsistent.adamprez2003 likes this. -
On a side note, I have to give it to the people on this site though. Every year they pick out one guy that kind of flies under my radar and sure enough they are dead on.
Last year it was Bess and this year Smith. I kinda liked both players but wasnt overly excited about either. But people on this site loved both and they were dead on:lol:late again likes this. -

I was critical of his play last week-three penaltys is not the way you want to start out.Tonight he played well and I hope he plays better next game.Good game Mr Davis.

VD picked it up tonight no doubt about it... however, some of his compadres in the secondary weren't so good... YB got picked on a bit and Gibril didn't have a good game... Culver got picked on a bit too... We missed having Sean Smith and Jason Allen IMO...

i love how the front office saw our biggest problem and addressed it in the 1st and 2nd round, and free angency. Of course the latter example is no longer with us. lol. I hope we do something like this every year with our biggest needs. I wonder what position we will attack next year? i wouldn't mind seeing us go after a WR in the 1st and 2nd round, and free agency.

Vontae got beat on a feww short passes but let me tell you he had the receivers on complete prison lockdown down the field. I almost wish his nickname was "The Warden".
Also very impressed with his tackling.Ronnie Bass and adamprez2003 like this. -

Its kind of funny last week everyone had a love affair with Chris Williams and were down on Vontae Davis, this week everyone is down on C.Williams and having a love affair with Davis.
I have to say myself Davis was pretty dominant tonight, and I have to think his future looks bright. Good job Vontae.padre31 and adamprez2003 like this.
