Why do we need Sam? Do we need him because hes a great football player, and a good person? Or because hes gay and showed courage by coming out? Michael Sam would tell you your wrong for wanting him for that reason. He should be treated like every other football player, his sexual preference should have nothing to do with anything.

But...Im curious why you werent saying we need Sam, BEFORE he came out publicly.

This is the last team that needs Sam. It's a locker room in crisis. If it goes badly, it would have the potential to devastate the team and give the NFL a massive black eye.

I don't think so..he was born a certain way and I don't care who he's attracted to, I do care that he is willing to stand up and tell the world who he is, in the face of one the most powerful organizations in the world..the NFL.What guts, what leadership, everything that this team is missing..

I started this thread because I don't want it to get lost, make fun of it if you wish, call it an overreaction, so be it, but the campaign begins now, this culture, this franchise, this team, needs Michael Sam, I hope that you can see that,

As for the players, if you have a problem with that, or him, in any way that isn't related to the field,then go somewhere else to play, I don't want your kind..

Possibly any number of people who never felt the need to hide who they were from their teammates?

I don't think any NFL team "needs" a 6th round or undrafted tweener

A lot of the people involved are still rostered.

Even once they're gone, a lot of people who probably did know about this stuff and let it fester are still there. It's like cutting out a tumor and then declaring the cancer cured 5 minutes after the surgery. Nope. Only time and examination can confirm we're cancer free.

I agree. Draft Sam... then Incognito needs to kiss him full on the mouth to show his support and acceptance. Then, Ted Wells can file a report on the kiss.

We have no need for another DE. No need for more media drama. And no need to draft a controversial middle round prospect to come in and try to be a leader as a rookie who won't even get snaps

isn't it obvious, your team is lacking everything that he represents as a man, his leadership, his courage, his willingness to play the game under unprecedented circumstances, his never give up character, his passion for the game, and most importantly,

HIS ABILTY TO UNITE HIS TEAM AND FOR THEM TO CALL HIM THEIR CAPTAIN..

Look deeper into your own team, this culture, then look at what this kids makeup is all about, and what kind of impact he had on his teammates, and town..

He won a whole team and city over by who he is..he won all of their respect..

We need him regardless if he doesn't have first round talent, bottom line, Michael Sams talent is worth the risk of a draft pick.

If he wasn't controversial, there wouldn't be days of debate over a 4th round DE in the national media.

Sounds to me like you are just a gay rights supporter (no problem w that) who wants the Dolphins to take him to make a statement, as opposed to what actually improves the roster. We have a tough enough time finding snaps for Jordan. This guy wouldn't even play

Oh, I agree. If this team has any racists, homophobes, or bullies left and we do this, they'll be exposed. Will they be exposed in a manner that destroys the team and gives the NFL a giant black eye given the Martin saga? I think the answer is probably yes. That's why we can't go there IMHO.

BS..it has nothing to do with supporting gay rights or simply just to make a hollow statement, it has everything to do with the character and guts displayed by the player, combined with the lack of character and guts displayed by your own team.Thats why I want him on this team..

I think he can literally change a lot of what's wrong.

You can only provide so much leadership and character when your a middle round draft pick rookie who doesn't play. In fact I could see the players rejecting him as they would think Ross just took him as a PR statement given we have Wake, Vernon, Jordan.

I put most of this in the Club, but I'll put it here as well.

I was listening to Colin Cowherd at lunch on the way to playing basketball, and he had former Palm Beach Post reporter (now reporting in New England), Greg Bedard, on his show. I kind of liked Bedard when he was here, and PBP followed him up with Jeff Darlington, whom I also liked. Both are gone and have been replaced with guys I don't prefer as much, but that's beside the point.

Anyway, long story short, what Greg Bedard was saying after studying Sams tape - football and only football - is that Sams is an average pro prospect at best and he wrote an article for MMQB on CNNSI here stating such:

My conclusion. Sam was a good player for one season in college. He was productive, so the accolades he received were earned. But being a good college player and becoming a good NFL player are two different things (see Tim Tebow). Sam did well for Missouri with a lot of talent around him. A majority of his production came in three games against inferior competition without a need to show much of a pass-rushing repertoire. He doesn’t show much of what the NFL looks for on special teams, and it’s difficult to project a position for him on the next level. For those reasons, Sam would project to be no better than a mid- to late-round pick. He could go undrafted. To my eyes Sam is decidedly average, with nothing exceptional about his game—though he will be helped by the fact that this draft is not deep with pass rushers, and those are always needed.

Bedard also mentioned on the radio show that there were several better players than Sams on the Missouri team. Now, I haven't done a study on Sams tape, and it seems like at least a few guys here have different opinions about how good Sams is. The SEC thought he was pretty good as well. I just thought I'd offer up an alternative viewpoint. And the gist of the whole segment was "football only" - and the conclusion as stated above was that there was a chance Sams may not get drafted, and it would have nothing to do with sexual preference.

Personally, I think that's going to be a little hard to buy, but it was interesting. Anyway, where do you guys legitimately see Sams getting drafted. Is Bedard just way off base?
