I have been posting on here for months that I believe next year will be Tannehill's last season in Miami. I just don't think Gase will want to put his job security in the hands of a QB who just isn't that good.

If I was in charge, I would draft Notre Dame's Ronnie Stanley in the first round as the heir apparent to Brandon Albert. For the time being, I would put Stanley at RT and slide James into guard. With Albert, (Turner/Douglas/FA), Pouncy, James, Stanley on the line, I think that for the first time, RT would have a solid line to work with. After the 2016-17 season, I could fairly evaluate him.

Depending on what happens with Miller and Cameron (rumor is they want to keep him), the rest of the draft, I would spend on defense. Developmental QBs seldom work, and if Tannehill doesn't wind up working out, odds are we will draft a QB in the first the following year.

Gase didn't go to Philly and bradford. Niners will get a shot at Goff. Browns could get lynch. Didn't even wait for the titans and mariota to call.

And yet Gase came here. He did so for a reason. Sure as hell wasnt our cap situation or owner...

 

I would be shocked if this front office could reasonably find something better than a QB who in his four years hasn't missed a start, thrown for over 15,000 yards, a 61.9 completion %, and has thrown 87 TDs to 54 picks....

So how many guys do you want playing out of their natural positions, geesh? Pretty lofty thinking to believe this would be the type of seamless transition that'd provide Tannehill a solid line to work with. The right side of the line would likely be a liability with you needlessly demanding BOTH players to play new positions when you can simply keep James where he's at and require just 1 new positional move [Stanley]. No need to overanalyze. When you change a lightbulb do you hold the bulb and ask 5 guys to turn you?

 

As long as Ross is owner Tannehill will be QB, how obvious does that have to be? They can say new coach has say in QB situation and what not, but at the end, it'll be Tannehill who is the permanent fixture.

 

It depends on where the player projects in the NFL. There have been OTs in college that have successfully made the transition to G. Brandon Scherff is the most recent one that I can think of from last years draft.

 

I think Omar is an idiot. He could be right for once in his life, but I still think he's an idiot and he should stop hanging out with Miko and Brent. Because if the phins were really smart, they'd replace Grimes ASAP

 

Doesn't mean much. Gase admitted he hasn't seen much of Tannehill. So if he chose us because of a player he hasn't seen much, and he decided to not watch a ton of film of said player prior to making a decision because of said player. I'd say he's a flat out idiot and we hired the wrong guy.

Gase has known he'd be sought after HC candidate all season. He knew miami, tennessee, and Cleveland would def be looking for a HC for months. I refuse to believe hasn't studied tannehill, mariota, and manziel at least a little bit in his free time.

Let me be clear: Stanley will NOT come in as a rookie who's new to RT and outperform James there, and James will likely not play as well at guard as he will his natural RT position...... so the most nonsensical and protracted thing you could do is create 2 potential concerns when there should only be one [Stanley]. Not to mention, anyone who counts on an immediate impact from a rookie lineman, especially one making a positional change, should probably stop playing armchair GM.

 

I don't like him lying about it, but it seems pretty standard practice for coaches lately. My guess is he's playing dumb to avoid too many questions right now.

 

It's not ideal- but case in point, what if Laremy Tunsil slid down to #8? I'd say draft Joshua Garnett or another good Guard, or get one in FA, but I'd take Tunsil at RT and James at OG, where he's played in college, over Dallas Freaking Thomas at OG. But ideally, no for sure, keep James at RT.

 

I doubt any of these guys admit that they scout teams ahead of time for potential openings. Doing so would be admitting that you weren't 100% focused on being the bears OC, also would make you seem pretty cocky.

But realistically how could an offensive guy interview for a HC position without knowing the guy playing under center?

 

I'd leave Tunsil on the left side at LG and keep James where he's at rather than tasking Tunsil with the difficulty of having to rewire his movements to the mirror opposite at RT. That or let Tunsil and Albert battle it out at LT in camp and if Tunsil seems to be handling his own, let Albert move to LG.

As far as 8 goes, it depends who else is on the board. IMO, ideally it'd behoove us to have one or both guard spots solidified in FA to where we're left potentially only needing 1 guard in the draft, which wouldn't require a 1st rounder on. I'd ride out Albert for another year with him having an additional offseason to recuperate from injury and its related conditioning issues. Maybe we can grab a developmental tackle in the 3rd or 4th round like a Terron Armstead to groom next year behind Albert.

 

Agree with this. We really need to draft defense with the 1st pick. CB, FS or LB. There is definitely going to be one really good defensive player where we pick. OG should be addressed in FA and/or with mid-round picks, and yes we should buy some time and ride out Albert a bit longer given our defensive needs.

Perhaps it was because Ross was willing to pay him far more than any first time head coach has ever received and there is no state income tax in Florida. I think that was the reason he picked Miami and not because of Tannehill.

In fact in his meeting with the press, he admitted he really didn't know that much about Tannehill and he had only seen him play a few times. Tannehill just isn't good enough to convince a coach to come to the Dolphins, but getting millions more than he would have gotten anywhere else certainly is.

 

If that is the case, which I don't really believe. That would mean the Dolphins will remain mediocre and Gase will be gone in three years.
I think Gase will learn rather quickly that Tannehill is not the long term answer and he will do what is necessary to bring in another quarterback of the future before the 2017 season begins.

 

We had a rookie lineman during the perfect season...
