I think this is a fair question UNLESS any one here is saying that there was no blame on Henning, the OL, RB's, WR's, or injuries the past year.
So, what did everyone think of Henne last year?

In my way of being a fan and having an open mind for every player that puts on our uniform with full support, I gave up midseason on Henne, I had seen enough, called for and supported the benching...
Mainly because I wasn't seeing the game slow down for him, and how his lack of athleticism was prohibiting him from making plays, and how he reacted when pressure was bearing down on him. -
I think every team we played last year had a better QB than us.

He was the exact same thing as he was the year before; backup material.
Somewhere between Rex Grossman and Byron Leftwich.
There are a few teams he'd start for, but he's not the guy we need if we want to compete.cdz12250 and DolfanJake like this. -
QBs in their developmental stage aren't meant to carry a team on their shoulders, and I don't know of many capable of succeeding in such a role. -

Doesn't matter how good the team around Henne is; there's definite room for improvement, so why settle for less? -
I was on the wagon last off season believing there would be significant improvement in 2010. I was concerned when rumors were Parcells was starting the process of disassociating himself with Dolphins during the preseason with reports that Henne had not made any progress. After only a couple of games it appeared to me Henne played afraid so not to make a mistake, held the ball too long, and wasn't displaying quality leadership. I wasn't sure how much was Henne and how much was Henning/Sparano. When I read about Henning/Sparano's message to Henne was don't make a mistake, but take chances, but don't make a mistake I thought what a ****ed up thing to do to young QB.
Now, I think Henne will again be the starter in 2011 given the lockout. My thoughts are he is not a natural leader, but with the right coaching he can be serviceable. If Miami wins a Super Bowl with Henne as a starter it will be b/c Miami is well-balanced and has some positions of real strength (DL, Secondary, solid running game) and not b/c Henne led them to it.GMJohnson likes this. -
I was disappointed in him last season, I was expected to see some kind of progress from him but he only regressed while having good pass protection(per PFF)a top 5 WR and a top 5 slot WR the least I expect from him was an average season but he had a below average season at least a guy like Mark Sanchez went from throwing more interceptions than TD in one season to throwing more Td's than int's from one year to the next.

Average at best. No excuses this year. He either takes the next step or it's time to move on.
-
He wasn't yet good enough which was magnified by an incompetent offensive coaching staff and a clueless head coach. His lack of athleticism also hurt him. Yes he can throw a football but he needs to look like an athlete out there. At this point I think defensive tackles can chase him down from behind.

The Jets, Ravens, and Falcons are that way which allows their young QBs to be successful, but apparently that's "too much" to ask for in Miami. :glare:
A team needs consistency to win, and a young QB needs consistency around him to be effective...... and you can't have consistency when your team is constantly shuffled around due to injury, your special teams are giving up game-changing plays, your defense isn't creating turnovers, and you have zero ground game to alleviate some of the pressure. Get real man. To think that a second year starting QB can overcome all of this on his own is flat out absurd.
The ghost of Marino's past emerges again. lol.
If a ground game is ineffective and a young QB is forced to carry the team despite no #2 TE, an injured starting WR, no depth at WR, no outlet back, and a shuffled Oline, this is doing nothing but setting up a QB for failure. Even Peyton Manning had a worse stretch of season than Henne when Manning's offense was riddled with injury.MarinePhinFan likes this. -

Peyton Manning, weeks 9-13 with an injury plagued offense:
QB ratings: 67, 69, 96, 59, 75
INTs: 13
So stop with the "Wow Henne needs all of that to have success" garbage. It makes you look ignorant.MarinePhinFan and USArmyFinFan like this. -
Through our first 6 games before our entire offense fell apart, Henne had an 89 QB rating with 8 TDs to 6 INTs. That's what I'm building off of (while also keeping in mind he played on a sprained knee for 6 games).
W/o the special teams debacle vs NY and the blown Pitt call, we would've been 5-1 during this time with wins over both SB teams and the AFC Champ runner up..... and Henne would've been a major contributor to those 3 wins (with roughly a 92 QB rating, 5 TDs, and 1 INT).
Our average yards per rush was 2nd to last in the NFL..... which put us in TOO MANY 2nd & 3rd and longs. That's not a good thing when your receivers are injured, you have no depth behind them, your Oline is injured, and you have no outlet back.
However, on 1st down, Chad had an 87 QB rating IIRC.
On 3rd down & 3-7, his rating was around 117 and was the top 3rd down converter in the NFL IIRC.
His redzone rating was 89.MarinePhinFan and USArmyFinFan like this. -
There's plenty of room for plausible improvement b/c Chad's a 3rd down converting machine when the ground game isn't busy crapping the bed on 1st & 2nd down.
We're not a team built for picking up chunk yards b/c we lack speed and talent in that regard, so 2nd and 3rd & 10's are not easy for us, which means they're not easy for Chad either.
If the ground game can get going, then you can use Henne's 87 1st down QB rating, his top ranked 3rd down conversions, and his 89 redzone rating as a foundation to build on...... b/c when the ground game gets humpin, those numerous 2nd & longs will instead become unpredictable 2nd and 6's..... and those 2nd and 6's will create more 3rd & 3-7s where Henne leads the NFL. Hence, the chains keep moving until we reach the redzone where Chad's 89 rating combined with a strong ground game & more scoring threats will lead to more TDs.
His rating when trailing a game is around 90, and we've seen him rally for some 4th qtr wins, so it's conceivable to believe that the addition of a few playmakers (guys who can pick up chunk yards) will only help further improve him here.USArmyFinFan likes this. -
I was disapointed in his play and hoped he would improve from the year before. No excuse i guess but he didn't have alot of support from the O-line and his recievers were shakey including the overpriced Brandon Marshall.
-
The only thing Henne needed to do to keep my support was maintain what he did in 2009 with maybe a little improvement. Unfortunately, he regressed. I know the stat jockeys will fly out of the wood works to tell me he didn't, but there were no 4th quarter comebacks. No putting the team on his shoulder to win a game, and he didn't have that short memory he showed in 2009. In 2009 he flashed a lot of potential. In 2010 he looked shellshocked. I feel Henning played a role in this, and I don't think Brian Daboll will do much better but I hope Henne can make it happen this year if he ends up being the guy.
-
I saw the very same thing I've seen all along. He can't see the whole field and is unwilling to trust his arm. He did not improve in college and the same is true of his NFL career imho.
-
I don't want a QB that needs a Pro Bowl Squad surrounding him. I want a QB that makes the players around him look like Pro Bowlers.gunn34 and MonstBlitz like this. -

I made a DUMB mistake. By LAST YEAR, I meant the year before last or going into the 2010 season. I was curious to see what posters thought then as opposed to now.

I think Henne should have at least one more year to put it together. I am for developing a QB and think too often teams give up to soon. If we do not see marked improvement in 2011 than I too will think it is time to start looking in other places. I like what I saw in 2009, not so much in 2010. So 2011 is the deciding year IMO. I hope he blows everyone’s doors off this season.

I told people last year, we weren't a Chad Pennington away from a Super Bowl. I'll tell em again this year, we're not a Kyle Orton away from a Super Bowl. Everyone kept talking about all this talent we had the one player wasn't bringing out and I laughed. Somehow they feel it prudent to blame a QB for a second to last rushing offense. Simple fact is, show me one QB that doesn't need a stacked deck to make it to the Super Bowl, I'll change my mind. Everyone complains about him needing an all-star cast to succeed like having an all-star cast is a bad thing. If he needed an all-star cast to win, which one player can't do, and we got one, and he win, wouldn't that be a GOOD thing. Sometimes people don't use logic when they complain. Ben Roethlisberger has had a stacked team forever. It allows players to grow.
But yeah, to answer the question, I liked the kid going into 2010, I'm not willing to kill the project yet. Sometimes I have to go and watch this video to help me through this lol:

I was disappointed in Marshall last year and I wanted Sparano fired, so I let some of last season slide. Then the receivers straight up falling down...just so much ****. I don't see how anyone can excuse Ricky Williams or Ronnie Brown then bash this kid. Just doesn't follow logically. I'm the kind of guy who will blame the parents of the noisy child before I blame the noisy child. Look at that fire that Henne doesn't have supposedly in that video. The dude ran down Ted Ginn in the endzone for goodness sakes. Just a whole lot of **** happened between 2009 and 2010 and I'm still willing to give him a chance.ToddsPhins likes this. -
