We all thought 2014 was the year Philbin had to **** or get off the pot, but we were wrong, Ross kept him, referencing the last year on his deal... a 9-7 season (which in this division might be good for 3rd place) with no playoffs, but yet an improvement on the last couple years, I mean that might be enough for Ross to do the exact same thing again this year.
I know Tannenbaum runs the show now but Philbin still appears to be the owners call, Mike T will almost certainly call for Philbin's head in that scenario, but he probably wanted him gone this offseason after yet another non-winning season and Ross still wasn't swayed, convincing him to move on after an actual winning season might prove just as difficult.

Wait. What? You don't like Ross or Philbin? This is news to me. Colour me shocked LBSFINEST.

hmm, if we go 9 and 7, do we retain philbin?......i think it will depend on the last quarter of the season, the context of how the season plays out, if we have a bunch of wins against graded out poor teams and fold again in the final quarter..no beuno.

However, I think calling him Dumbo is going a little overboard. LOL
I do like the moves Ross made this past offseason, especially the Mike Tannenbaum acquisition. Dude seems to be on fire since he got here. I truly think it's playoffs or bust this season for Philbin and Co. The excuses are over.MikeHoncho, Dolphinzdawgg and Fin4Ever like this. -

I don't recall Ross ever saying ANY year was a make or break year...it's all fan made-up wishful thinking.
What makes you so sure you know what Ross thinks?Fin4Ever likes this. -
IF I REMEMBER RIGHT.............again...................Ross said LAST year that 'he believes in what we are building'. That tells me, Philbin isn't going anywhere, anytime soon.
There was a lot to change in the locker room. I'm betting Philbin will be back next year.Fin4Ever likes this. -

Thought it was common knowledge Ross wanted Ireland to stay on in a lesser role....after Aponte and Philbin stabbed him in the back and essentially cost him his job running the team.
You think our search for Ireland's replacement was embarrassing.... imagine him accepting the demotion and now Ross has to find a guy willing to inherit Philbin, Aponte, and the Ginger, all 3 still in the owner's good graces and likely answering only to him, ready to turn on each other at the drop of a dime to save their jobs.
lmao I crack up just thinking about what could have been....I don't think there's another owner clueless enough to not realize what a toxic mess that would have been. -

There aren't any guarantees with Ross other than that he will find a way to be an embarrassing ****-up

Who knows who really has final say, who can overrule who, the front office has been a cluster**** for the longest, seems like there's always some confusion as to who's making the decisions, who answers to who, who has job security and who doesn't, etc.... -

As to the second paragraph, I have to agree with a few others here that this FO is different now that TBaum is running the show... It's pretty apparently clear that things are different now...that said, because we've suffered thru 15 yrs of FO unrest, it's hard to get that stench out of our minds...
Bottom Line: We'll, once again, have to wait and see....LBsFinest and Dolphinzdawgg like this. -

He also hired Mike Tannenbaum, who seems to be doing a great job.
****-up! -
I liked this off-season, but hiring Mike Tannenbaum and the way it was done was pure Stephen Ross. -
I'm not saying Ross has been the greatest owner ever, but it's not fair to act like he hasn't done good things either. -

Ross and Philbin are both learning on the job. Ross has been the owner for a while now and I don't think he will repeat past mistakes. If the team doesn't make the playoffs, firing Philbin will be on Tannenbaum's hands and Ross will probably cede more control if he hasn't already. I believe that's what he has learned as an owner, or will learn once this season is over. Give the decision making to people who dedicate their lives to this stuff, sign the checks and smile. He still needs to learn what to say and not to say, but that is less detrimental to the team than front office decision making. I'm still out on Philbin, because he is a first time head coach I believe he went through some growing pains just like Ross, and maybe Ross can relate to that. As long as past mistakes aren't repeated but learned from, I will support our coach.
