Amidst so much negative news, turmoil, and argumentation I thought I'd go for a bit of positive (hopefully) discussion.
What would constitute a 'successful" season for the Dolphins this year, in your eyes? What must they do, on and off the field, to satisfy you as a fan.
If your answer includes firing someone, just know that you don;t need to post that because it's likely you've stated that multiple times in multiple threads already so let's leave those discussions for there. (I, for instance, will not be mentioning anyone I'd rather not see with the Dolphins).
To me, a successful season would have to include:
1) Playoffs
2) Not being embarrassed in the playoffs. Even if we lose in the first round, we look like we belong there.
3) Tannehill takes his next step and posts a QBR over 90
4) The Oline allows us to at least be average in rushing and pass protection
5) At least one of last year's draft picks becomes a major contributor, another one becomes a decent starter.
6) We hit on at least 3/4 Free Agency signings.
7) Grimes is re-signed.
8) We make it through the season with no off-the-field embarrassments or scandals (very minor stuff aside) by players, execs, owner, ball-boy, DJ, etc. :)
9) We ****ing win ALL our primetime games (if we even get any) to begin rebuilding our reputation and status in the mainstream consciousness
10) More Pro-Bowlers than this year.
Am I missing anything?

Sweeping the Patriots and winning the division.

1. Have a successful draft class.
2. No negative press.
3. Rebuild OL that will be at least average in run and pass blocking.
4. Win all games I attend (obviously being selfish here)
5. Dolphins get at least 2 prime time games (does not include Thursday Night Football) and win at least 1.
6. Have a 1,000 rusher that can also pass protect.
7. Tannehill and Wallace figure out the deep ball.
8. Dolphins are a contender to win the division in final two games.
9. Make playoffs and not get embarrassed.
10. Tannehill improves his play.
11. Beat Jets twice. -

1 and 2 would suffice for me. Maybe 3, but the rating over 90 isn't necessary to me, I think he can have a rating between 85 and 90 and I'd still be satisfied.
I'd also add a another: Not mortgage away our future for a quick fix via big FA spending, and/or trading away draft picks.MrClean likes this. -
1 & 3.
If 3 happens, then 1 is basically automatic.
And btw, people with a long and intricate list of conditions required to be happy...are rarely happy.Rocky Raccoon and Bpk like this. -
I pretty much agree with Boiks list. Maybe add boobies and a superbowl, but other than that pretty solid hopes.

1. At least 10 wins.
2. Playoffs. Because 10 wins isn't a guarantee to punch your playoff ticket these days.
3. Bonus. Plans for a new stadium unveiled.
...or, if things go badly:
1. Stephen Ross sells the team. -
Playoffs. End thread.

And yes more folk in the GML league (6 spots left...prize list just went up) -
Just number one would suffice for me. Getting into the playoffs would be nice for a change. And by making the playoffs I mean actually making it based on our record not with help from 10 teams losing in week 17.

a competent offense. someone becomes a leader on this team (i dont care who it is). playoffs. basically the same thing i expect every offseason, but never happens.

AFC Championship game and division title.

Playoffs or a 10-6 record, and no more legit major off the field embarrassments. Some of the negative press is ridiculous piling on. If we go 10-6 and miss the playoffs I can live with that.

Win the division.
With the added teams in the playoffs...we could make the playoffs with 8 - 9 wins.
If we won 11 games and didnt win the division, Id consider that a success as well.
Aw crap...hes right. Boobies to. -

Ross gets bored of the NFL and sells the team to a competent owner.

If we went 9-7 and made the playoffs that would not get it for me. That still would indicate we were mired in mediocrity and could be 6-10 the next year.
A successful season?
1. At least 10 wins, including wins against some top teams.
2. no big blowout losses,
3. Playoffs and
4. A win or a competitive loss to a team that went on to the SB.Bpk likes this. -

Win a playoff game. Ryan Tannehill takes another step forward.

Honestly, this may seem harsh, but I would deem next season a "success" if we absolutely implode and we completely clean house and rebuild the entire front office from the top down with one of the many top GM candidates that we whiffed on this year.
This may seem harsh, but I have absolutely no faith in either Philbin, Hickey, or even our front office structure. I think imploding and starting over would get us to the Super Bowl sooner than continuing down the road we are currently heading down. -
Thanks for the invite to GM league, bro. I'll politely decline. My hands are full with building a business right now. No time to build a team too. :) -

2. No negative press. (Unlikely)
3. Rebuild OL that will be at least average in run and pass blocking. (Glad we agree.)
4. Win all games I attend (obviously being selfish here) (I have no problem with that)
5. Dolphins get at least 2 prime time games (does not include Thursday Night Football) and win at least 1. (Agree with getting 2 Prime Time games. But we need to win BOTH(
6. Have a 1,000 rusher that can also pass protect. (Man… that would be amazing.)
7. Tannehill and Wallace figure out the deep ball. (Whooo. That would be exciting.)
8. Dolphins are a contender to win the division in final two games. For that to happen, I think we need to sweep the Pats.. unlikely but possible)
9. Make playoffs and not get embarrassed. (Yup)
10. Tannehill improves his play. (Yup)
11. Beat Jets twice. (HELLS YEAH)Fin-Omenal likes this.
