I don't have a name...but we need somebody that carries some respect with their name. Somebody experienced in league circles and respected by upper level management people in the NFL. I believe these things to be crucial to getting the ship righted in as quick a fashion as possible.
-
I don't know, unless the guy has made personnel decisions before who has any idea if they're going to be any good? It's pretty well a crapshoot and I think people fool themselves badly with this kind of thing.
I would prefer whomever it was not have the same kind of aversion towards older players as they've had here since '08. -

“I’ve spent the last six years with the best organization in football,” added Ireland. “Steve and I came to an agreement that the best thing moving forward for all parties would be to part ways. I’d like to thank Steve for all his support and kindness. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing people during this time and I’d like to thank them all from the bottom of my heart. “

No idea.
Money is on Brian Gaine. -
This is a nice sign, though:

You can either try to take the foundation that is there, fix it and build it up, or you can just blow everything away
In comparison, Ireland did by far the least amount of damage to the Dolphins when compared to Wanny, Spielman and Mueller. Heck, they even have all their draft picks. -

In 20 years most people will talk about how Wanny ruined the team and Ireland's time will be mostly forgotten. Especially if the next GM does a great job.the 23rd likes this. -
Marc Ross as GM would please me, IF he is cool with Philbin's philosophy and system.
-
Eric Decosta and let him decide Philbin's fate!

Unless they think highly of Aponte and Ross - hard to believe. I think the team is in trouble because of the bad contracts to the LBs and the one year deals with key players who will be free agents next year - they will likely be hurting on the interior DL - and they have huge OL holes.
Maybe they like Philbin? Maybe they think Ross has tons of cash? Maybe they think the stadium is going to improve and that fans will actually attend? Hard to believe; but who knows. -
You could literally perform in a way that could get you fired on many other teams and still get 6 years with Ross as your boss. That's nice and stable. An attractive situation. Seriously.
I think big names will like the idea that the owner is unlikely to fire them at the drop of a hat.jdallen1222 likes this. -

No idea but I wonder about coaching decisions. I expect Philbin to stay so does he get to make coaching decisions? I still can't believe the O line coach wasn't canned immediately.
-
As long as it isn't someone already in the Dolphins organization, I will be happy. I think Ross needs to look outside the organization and bring in someone who can look objectively at the talent on this roster and determine who should go and who should stay.
If the next GM wants to keep Philbin for another year, I will be okay with that. As long as Ross doesn't make the retaining of Philbin a requirement of the new GM. I think forcing the next GM to keep Philbin just might prevent some of the top GM prospects from taking the job. -
Also, Ross is an attractive boss, imo, because he is very slow to fire people. If you take a high paying GM job, move family and kids to Florida you can be pretty sure you won't be moving again within a couple years.dolfan22 likes this. -
And BANK on the fact that APointe and Philbin have already suggested a list of preferred GMs to Ross. GMs who would be friendly to keeping Philbin.
-
It is a coveted spot because these guys with that ambition WANT to take a mediocre mess and turn it into a dynasty. It proves what they believe about themselves. I would rather someone have that ambition and take the opportunity, than someone looking to coast on easy street.

Darlington hints that Gaine won't be promoted.
Jeff Darlington @JeffDarlington 4m
That being said about Gaine, I don't anticipate he’ll become Ireland’s “replacement.” Team searching for outside hire to oversee the org.
TOM GAMBLE OR MARC ROSS PLEASE -

Ross seems to be loyal to a fault. I think we can count on it being one of Ross confidants, like Brian Gaines, Tannebaum, Mangini, Aponte, Pioli, Carl Peterson... I'm not too enamored with any of those candidates, I guess Gaines would get my vote of that group, but it's bound to not be an 'outside the box' guy....

However, all the GM has to do is agree to hold onto Philbin one year and then he can have carte blanche. And, he should be able to convince Ross that if the team falters next year, he should get an extra year. If Ross gave me a 5 year deal - I'd want to be the GM. -
