I wanted to see what the family thought about this. The Cards, Cubbies, Dodgers, are just a few teams that I can think of. I wish we could keep him that is for sure. Some team will be getting a real good pitcher, that hasn't had a lot of run support especially this year. Jake is a good people, and very down to earth as I met him with my in laws a couple of years ago at Spring Training.

I'd have to guess the Cubs are the most likely team to get him. It seems like somewhere where he'd like to go and since he pretty much have the say in the matter. Only problem is the extra payroll the Cubs would have to take on would make it tough especially with them not having an owner yet.
I think the Padres should also look to trade Adrian Gonzalez too, which they could probably get a huge package for him. They'd get more for him than for Peavy. And the teams that could be after him would be much bigger.Fin Fan In Cali likes this. -

I really really really really really really wish the Padres could loosen up the demands and send him to the rival Dodgers. Fat chance but one can hope. :wink2:
Not a lot of teams that fit Peavy's demands (West Coast, NL, willingness to spend cap space) in dire need of pitching. Dodgers seem to be the best fit for his demands unfortunately for SD. Have some good young prospects pitching and OF as well. Angels may bid though they have Santana and Lackey returning with Weaver. D-Backs probably won't pony up and neither could the Giants. Cubs and Cards are also possibilities but whether Peavy will want to move is a questionmark.Fin Fan In Cali likes this. -

To me, the team that makes sense for Peavy to go to is the Mets, they need pitching and don't mind a high payroll.
And that would keep him away from the Dodgers, no need to face him in our own division a couple of times a year, let alone vaulting the Dodgers into perenial contenders for quite some time.Boik14 and Fin Fan In Cali like this. -

The Padres have won 9 straight games.....I don't see Peavy going anywhere.

I can tell you which team it WON'T be.
Can you imagine the rotation of Webb, Harren and Peavey?
The FO wouldn't pony up the measley bucks to keep O-Hud or the legiondary Big Unit in Phoenix, no way they spend any money for Peavy
BTW: Is there any room on the Padres bandwagon for one more?
Whoever is beating the Dodgers is my new favorite team.
Also, did somebody really call Dodgers/Giants out as a SERIOUS rivalry? Guess I missed something :pity: -
I would love to see Peavy come to the Mets but judging by his comments about wanting to stay in the NL midwest I see a team like St Louis or Cincy coming out of the blue for him. I dont think he wants a huge media market like NYC or Chicago. I think he might be more open to a mid size market like that. If he changes his mind about NY though a rotation of Johan, Peavy, Pelfrey, Maine would be sweet.

I don't see the Dodgers making a move for Peavy. I don't think that McCourt (who has made the parking lot at Chavez Revine a miserable experience) wants to pay for Peavy's contract.
At the end of the day it is 50/50 if Peavy gets traded. And the team that might make the trade is the Cardinals.Fin Fan In Cali likes this. -

The Seattle Mariners are west coast???
And they are very easy to dupe...
Yea lets trade Adam Jones. :pity: -

With Gonzalez, he's semi young, he's cheap, under control for a while. Realistically any team could afford him and could make a trade for him. He's fair game for any team. That's why I think if SD would trade AGon, they'd get more back for him.Fin Fan In Cali likes this. -

Anyway Peavy will get $10m in 2010, $16m in 2011, $17m in 2012, and a club option for $22m (with a $4m buyout) in 2013.
AGon is making $3m this year, in 2010 $4.75m, and a club option in 2011 for $5.5m. Now that is a great contract that they can move and get a big return for.Fin Fan In Cali likes this. -
