I wouldn't give up on Ginn just yet because if he finally comes around can you just imagine Marshall and Ginn on the field at the same time?
I am not so sure they are ready to give up on Turner yet but I am not sure how they hang on to all of them.

Why is it that people want us to dump Ginn, but hold onto Turner, who couldn't even touch the field last year? Turner is gone if we have to get rid of someone.

CUT- Patrick Turner. Looks like all the draft experts who bashed the Pat Turner (and Pat White, for that matter) pick were right!!! Yes, its only been one year, and draft picks need time to blossom, yadayadayada.....

I wonder what we can get out of Camarillo. No one really has mentioned him. He is signed through the 11 season so he could bring in more value?

I think Hartline is safe .The question is who has any value in a trade .The answer would be Bess or Ginn.

Of course if Patrick Turner is placed on the practice squad then we could stand pat.

I agree on Camarillo .He is the most surehanded and clutch receiver of the bunch.The kind you need when the game is on the line and your No 1 and No 2 WR are covered.

If we had a better TE ,he would be able to fullfil that function.

Cam is the odd man out. He makes more money than wethe rest and produces very little else where. Ginn, Bess, and Hartline play special teams. I only think Turner gets cut if they think he wont progress anymore

 

Its gotta be cam. His skills are more than covered with Bess and Hartline. Even though I love Cam, he catches everything going his way. But, he's just the odd man out.

 

put turner on the practice squad. These guys all know the stakes and to be honest, they were all pretty lucky to be on the team for one year without worries.

Every route, every catch, every drop, every block is an audition for a job for these guys from this point on. Bess, Ginn, Camarillo, and Hartline have to earn every play they get. That SHOULD mean great things for the team.

I doubt it will be Turner. They did draft this kid; they didn't draft Cam or Ginn.

 

I don't think that Patrick Turner is practice squad eligible...

Practice Squad Eligibility:

(i) players who do not have an Accrued Season of NFL expericence
(ii) free agend players who were on the Active List for fewer than nine regular season games during their only Accrued Season(s).

Patrick Turner is not eligible under (i), as an Accrued Season is defined as "each season during which he was on, or should have been on, full pay status for a total of six (6) or more regular season games" PT was on the 53-man roster for the entire year last year.

and although I think that he was active less than 9 games last year, I don't think he would be eligible under (ii) because it stipulates 'free agent'.

 

right now today there are only 2 guaranteed spots ... Hartline and Marshall ...

i am willing to see if Mullen can push Bess ....

the rest can fall where they may .... albeit, CAM is a known quantity .... as is Ginn - he's just a bad one

 

I'm coming around to having an open competition among Hartline, Bess, Camarillo, and Ginn for the #2 and #3 WR spots on the roster.

Patrick Turner is a big-bodied receiver. He now is expendable by the signing of a much more productive big-bodied receiver Brandon Marshall. Maybe we can package him with Justin Smiley to Seattle for draft pick(s). I know Pete Carroll, his old coach, is enamored with him, and I know Seattle needs a guard and a receiver.

I have to say that you guys arguing for Ginn have been persuasive. If you really want the Dolphins to keep Ginn, send feedback to Parcells and Co.

 

I've got no idea why everyone is saying Camarillo when we knew Ginn was on the trade block before the deal even went down.

Camarillo can do 500-600 yards with a catch % as good as anyone. He works hard, shuts his mouth, does his job, and blocks. That's endearing to the Front Office.

There's a common theme that Camarillo, Bess, and Hartline all do the same thing but I don't really understand why. Camarillo is a classical possession receiver. Davone Bess is essentially Wes Welker, a slot receiver. There's some overlap between possession and slot, but it isn't the same role by any means. Hartline is a goofy looking white guy but that don't mean he is either.

 

Hartline is a younger, faster version of Cam so I think he could be gone as well.

 

Turner didn't even count against the roster last year. It's seemed pretty obvious that Ginn would be the odd man out, and sure enough in the last couple of days reports are out that he's being peddled. I would jump on a 5th for him, someone else can return kickoffs. And he, of course, blows at punt returns anyway.

 

Hartline isn't as reliable as Camarillo, and Camarillo isn't as fast. They are two different kinds of wide receivers. If Brian Hartline becomes as reliable as Camarillo is, then he's a very good wide receiver to the point where they won't be competing for the same niche job.

 

It's not a positive sign, but it's not exactly rare for a wide receiver to see little to no snaps as a rookie and go on to be productive or even elite. Going through the top 10 players in terms of receiving yards this year, four of the 10 had less than 100 yards as a rookie.

It's not a death knell in any sense.

I tend to agree, and the other factor is, we can peddle Greg C more cheaply than we could Ted Ginn, Greg C could go for a 6th or 7th rd pick, Ginn would require a #3 pick, meaning of you are say the Carolina Panthers, you can pick up Greg C and call your #3/#2 Wr problem "Solved" and cheaply so.

Trade for Ginn, you've already lost your #1 pick, now you give up a #3?

That makes no sense, Greg C's price is more conducive to what the market is likely to offer imho.

 

Agreed on just about every point. Why would you get rid of Camarillo when he provides the surest hands on the roster and knows how ot get open? That, above all else is what makes receivers great. Ginn doesn't know how to get open unless he runs really really fast, and Pat Turner doesn't even know how to get on the field, let alone how to get open.

Greg Camarillo stays. He is the reason we even won a game a few years back and he isn't easily replace, even if Hartline or Bess have similar skillsets.

I set my depth accordingly:
1. Marshall
2. Bess
3. Camarillo
4. Ginn
5. Hartline
6. Turner

Marshall is our number one for sure, and his size and presence may render Patrick Turner's assets obsolete (being a big endzone target if/when he hits the field).

Besides, injuries always occur. Bess gets dinged up, Camarillo has been hurt as has Marshall in year's past. You keep the most talented and productive players on your roster so that if/when they need to fill in, they can.


But isn't this amazing with Marshall? One player added to the mix and all of a sudden our issue with wide receivers becomes TOO much depth. I love it.

 

I'm hoping we can trade Turner to Seattle, and then keep the other 5.

 

I suppose this will be sorted out in TC and in preseason. We all have our opinions and druthers, but once we are done with the draft and start TC, we'll know who all the players are, and then they can go about the work of proving themselves. The guys who get paid to make these decisions will also be held accountable, so hopefully they will do the right things.

 

I do agree Camerillo holds more trade value then Ginn. But let me use the Ginn supporter logic, shouldn't Turner have three years to developed ?

 

I think not. You know Marshall won't be on STs. Ginn, Hartline, and Bess are significant ST contributors. This is one (additional) thing that kept Turner on the sidelines last year. Hes either got to be play a bigger role (red zone and third down) or he will squeezed out by the guys who can do more things. I don't know that they will keep a 5th WR that doesn't contribute on STs. Certainly not a 6th who doesnt. He has to be overwhelmingly better than Cam to make the team.

Again, though, this is one of the reasons for TC and PS games. We can work these issues out then and help us become the best team we can be.

The simple answer to this is wait until after the draft...One or any of those guys could be dealt for picks on draft day. After the draft, we can really discuss who will/should stay and who should go...

Personally, I still like the idea of seeing what Ginn can do opposite Marshall, a real burner there to complement what Marshall can do...But I think we'll know much better come April 29...

Thats risky. They have to KNOW that PT has turned the corner and can get on the field, or you keep all the players in front of him. Its too risky to go from five excellent WRs to Four excellent and one guy that can't get on the field.

If you have five that can all play and one gets injured, you can still operate your full offense. If you only have four and one gets injured, that takes away a large portion of your critical (third down, two minute) offense. They are going to need to have "supreme" confidence, like Karl "I'll stake my job on this" Dorrell kind of confidence in Turner to let a surehanded, steady-as-they-come-WR in Camarillo before they part ways with him to keep Turner.

 

They may be loyal, but they aren't stupid. Being drafted by them did not allow PT to be active for any games. I hope he steps up, immerses himself in the playbook, becomes instinctive and is the kind of player everyone hopes he can be. He has to do it. He has far more physical talent than Camarillo. That talent must manifest itself into making plays, and in him winning the trust from Henne that if he throws him the ball, he will make that catch. Camarillo this year could go to NE and catch 50 passes. Could Turner?

 

There is nothing indicating that Ginn would be the odd man. He was 'on the market' before Marshall came on board. Sure he's on the market, but then again everyone except perhaps Henne, Long, Marshall and Dansby are probably on the market as well. That's a pretty generic statement. If you think about it, based on what Ginn might bring in return relative to his speed and skillset, it's a better return on investment for Cammy to be moved out....

The question I have for this regime is what the heck are they going to do with White ?? He's not a RB, not a WR, not a QB...what is he ?? What value does he have in trade ?? Sad situation that they invested a 2nd round pick on an experimental player...

 

I say we trade Bess for a 4th or 3rd rounder. I'd say thats a fair trade off to a guy that was a undrafted player.

 

Hartline will open (and I predict close, barring injury) the season as the #2 guy. Hes legit. He has good speed, gets open, and usually catches the ball. Hes a tough kid and hes competitive.

Bess is the slot guy. I think unless something drastic happens (like Turner tears it up in a huge way) thats not likely to change.

Ginn, as of now, is your 4th guy, that XZ, skinny post in a four WR set.

I think its Cam, but could be Turner as the fifth guy. But this will work itself out. In a week, we'll have a better idea of who we are working with. If all of these guys, and no others, makeup our WRs, then thats the competition in TC/PS.

Who knows? We could end up with another big time talent or a kid that comes in ala Marques Colston with NO and just cannot be denied.

At least, though, we have a bona fide #1 WR. That is comforting.

 

Bess is Welker, sans 4.4 speed. That matters.
