Why can’t we sign Jackson?

Dorfdadforum_veteranOPSince we picked up Tuas option and will have him for two more years under contract can we not trade him to baltimore along with a few picks next year and have them trade Jackson to us? Could we not work out a new contract with him and save ourselves 2 years of maybes with this stacked team and save ourselves from having to pay 100 million to Tua if he stays healthy?
This would allow Baltimore to have a starting qb this year since Jackson will sit out most likely and it will give him a contract he wants and we get a proven qb with a Super Bowl ready team minus the QB.
why can’t this happen?

TheHighExhaultedforum_veteranYou don't want to pay Tua $100+ million if he stays healthy and put up the similar numbers to last year, but you do want to give Jackson $200+ million guaranteed and he is just as much as an injury risk than Tua?
Not to mention Lamar Jackson only fits one type of offense, a Lamar Jackson college style offense. Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle would be rendered useless.
There's a reason nobody wants him, even the truly quarterback needy teams.

More detail: It would be ludicrous to give up a player like Tua, and draft capital and a LOT more money to take on a player who isn't a better passer and also has injury concerns.

The original poster said $100 million. I added the "+", because if Tua balls out this year the contract will be closer to $200 million.
And for the record, the $200 million is what Jackson is asking for, nobody has put that number on him hence why nobody wants him.

According to Ravens, they've offered, "$133 million at signing, $175 million if he got injured, and $200 million springing guarantee if he is on the roster on the fifth day of 2026 league year."
So again, if you think Tua is the better player AND the injury concerns are the same. Then why wasn't Tua offered something similar?

The 1st thing you've written in a long time that makes sense. Except for the fact the Dolphins never offered Jackson that kind of money.
Lots of people will tell you what they think about you and what you shouldn't and should do. Not everyone's thoughts are worth consideration. Don't take criticism from anyone who you wouldn't also go to for advice.

Don't know, but I can almost guarantee you it's in the works.

A quarterback that wins with his legs and has missed games due to multiple leg/knee injuries is not insignificant.

Because Tua still has two seasons left on his rookie contract. Why would we offer him substantially more? Why would any franchise do that with a player on a rookie contract? It sets a terrible precedent.
Winning football games at any level comes down to winning in the trenches.

Regardless of injury risk do you think it makes any sense at all to give Tua a mega deal now? We have him on a rookie deal giving us a small window to keep the roster intact while keeping the franchise QB. When a franchise QB gets his big payday the rest of the roster will suffer. It's not about a lack of confidence like you're insinuating. The fact that they picked up the fifth year option was all we needed to see he's in Miami's long term plans. You might as well accept Tua will be here for at least two more years.

I like tua but not sure we seeing the same game tua has been good 1/2 a season Jackson has been good since he was a rookie
