Let me preface this by saying that I like Tannehill and would have no problem continuing to build around him.
I don't think it's that far fetched to think at least one team might...
some teams that might be interested:
St Louis: I think Jeff Fisher's seat may be starting to heat up a bit, he traded Bradford for Foles, obviously that didn't work out, 2016 may be a make or break season for him, wouldn't be shocked if he came calling, Tannehill with that running game and all the talent on defense, could be attractive enough to trade a 1st.
Cleveland: What happens with that front office and coaching staff? Do they have job security? Even if Farmer and/or Pettine are retained, Manziel has question marks on and off the field....Josh McCown and Austin Davis?
NYJ: Fitzpatrick obviously isn't the long term answer, of course many would argue Geno Smith isn't either.
Houston: Ryan Mallet's career in Houston is over, you gotta think they'd view Tannehill as an upgrade over journeyman Brian Hoyer. Would they part with a 1?
Philly: The Sam Bradford era could be coming to an end here, pending free agent, don't think Chip views him as a starter anymore, too inconsistent and injury prone, Kelly might look at Tannehill and think here's my last real chance to land a legit young QB before I get fired.
49ers: Kaepernick's time in SF will be up sooner than later...Gabbert isn't an option long term.
Wildcard: Denver ... I think Kubiak would love to get his hands on Tannehill...he's inheriting Osweiler, who's a free agent at the end of the year anyway...obviously a lot depends on how Brock plays down the stretch and in the post season (assuming Kubiak doesn't hand the starting job back to Peyton of course). Parting with a late 1st for a QB who can truly run his offense might be an option.
We draft Ryan's replacement in the 1st (Paxton Lynch) and still have one left to take a DB....hell I would probably do that.
Maybe this entire post was made in vain, maybe Mike Tannenbaum wouldn't even consider trading Tannehill, not even for a 1st, but we'll have a new coaching staff in 2016, probably a new GM, new scouts...maybe a Sean Payton or Hue Jackson wouldn't feel completely comfortable tying their wagon to Tannehill.
Would you trade Tannehill for a 1st??

For a 1st rounder, I'd definitely trade him (pending the rest of the season.. Tannehill has 5 more games to prove he's something he doesn't seem to be). His contract might help too because the team that gets him can get out relatively easily if they keep the contract, or more likely renegotiate to something more palatable for them.

Let's see how the season finishes out...be patient

It would depend where that 1st rounder fell....High 1st (top 10)...yeah Id probably have to do that. Mid 1st (between 11-20)...youre going to have to give me additional picks; probably something like a 3 and 4 that year and a 3 next year. Late 1st (21-32)...Gonna need 2nd and 4th that year and 2nd and 6th the next year.
Yeah, I like picks. A lot. -

I don't think anyone would trade a 1st for Tannehill but then again, who knows. Our front office is still convinced he's a top-10 QB, so it's very possible that other front offices would as well. Remember, it's the perception...not the reality...and it would be the best possible move this franchise could make.

If Tannehill isn't the answer for us, then why would he be the answer for other teams?
If he is the answer for another team, then why isn't he the answer for us?
St Louis puts him into a situation with a strong OL, run game and defence. So that's how he's gonna be successful? If that's the case why are we trading him instead of fixing those issues? If Tannehill flourishes in that system are we to take a gamble on a QB who we need to hope drops to us?
The premise seems off to begin with.Puka-head and DolphinGreg like this. -
The teams gonna get rebuilt any way so yes no one is off limits if you can get a good trade.

You guys must have never seen Jay Fiedler, A.J. Feeley, John Beck, Cleo Lemon, etc., etc., etc. ad nauseum!

Id trade him for a 3rd. We wouldn't be able to trade him until next off season though correct? The way his bank accounts set up.

Makes zero sense so its likely the Dolphins will do it!RevRick likes this. -

And LOL @ the poll in this thread. No GM would trade a 1st round pick for Tannehill. NONE.

For a bag of chips, LB. For a bag of chips.

While, I do want to see how this year ends up for Tannehill and maybe give him one more shot with the new coaching staff next year. -
Regardless if Tannehill is our QB or not, we have to build some better talent on this team, especially on the OL. I have my doubts on Tannehill ever becoming a top 10 QB and as a result would be willing to trade him for a 1st round pick. This would probably set our team back a couple of years giving us some chance at franchise QB's in the top 5 picks for the next couple of years.
In the meantime, we could parlay that extra first round pick into two impact defensive players. If we could find a top tier DE, LB or S to go with Suh and Jones, then I think we have the makings of a championship defense. I think we'd still need to find some better starters at DE, LB or CB but that would be a great core.
Assuming we end being a 5th and got the #15 pick for Tannehill, if you end up with Hargreaves III, Jaylon Smith at ILB and Shalique Calhoun in the 2nd round, that would be a pretty epic draft and it would be exciting to watch our defense. You couple that in with the continued development of Phillips and McCain, and this team is going to be a playoff contender defensively. -
