First order of business, tan my legs, not wear sunglass connectors, and never use the term "coupla picks".

fix this offense in terms of playmaking ability and speed, also bye bye jake long, would love to get my local boy bjoern werner on this team, but i doubt we are in the range to get him, S and CB and a new RT, some depth at LB and G...thats it

Off-season, I'd make it a priority to re-sign Jake Long, Reggie Bush, and any other player I feel has made enough of an impact this season to warrant getting a new contract. Then I'd try to sign Greg Jennings due to his familiarity of the offense or Mike Wallace at the wide receiver position, And also possibly Josh Cribbs, if possible. Moreso, I'd look into some back up offensive linemen, especially at the tackle spots, and make a play for Michael Johnson, who is currently having a great season with the Bengals, Jairus Byrd, and .
Come draft time, depending on how my offseason goes, I'd prioritize my first five picks towards acquiring a pass rusher that can compliment Cameron Wake, a wide receiver (preferably after round 1), tight end, safety, and cornerback. -
My initial thoughts :
1-we need to bring in a proven Wr that can be plugged into the offense and expected to produce day 1. Same probably goes for DE.
2- imperative we draft a promising young Lb.
3- the majority of expiring contracts on this team won't be renewed. Long,Starks,bush,hartline,fasano,smith.... We'll keep maybe 3 of them. -
If I'm the GM I talk to Philbin then I talk to Sherman then talk to coyle and then decide where to go based on all the input from everybody on the team.
I carefully dev a plan. Then create options based off what may occur.
Central to it identifying my core group. One is Bush so. Re signing him is a must. I then look to add jjennings and finley from gb. That alllows me to go BPA in draft to fill other holesPaul 13 likes this. -
How much am I being paid?
Assuming it's top 10 in the NFL... then:
resign Bush 4 years 20 million
franchise tag Sean Smith... but there's more... pretend that I'm going to tag Smith... let on during senior bowl and combine... when in reality I won't be tagging him... I'm leaving the tagging Long option in my back pocket. I'm letting everyone and anyone discuss with Long's agent contract terms as they always do before the start of the new league year. Then at the last second I say to his agent, what's his best offer, which teams are most interested? Then BAM, at the deadline, I tag Long. All the teams that were standing in line now have to come to me to acquire his services. I trade Long for whatever team offers up the most in draft picks.
What happens to Sean Smith? Something similar to what we did with Soliai. By the time you pull the threat of the tag off him, nobody will be interested. His agent will come begging to you for a fair deal. So you might resign him if the money is right.
I'd resign Hartline IF the money is right. 4 years $16m
I'd sign Greg Jennings and make him the highest paid receiver on the team. 5 years 40 million.
I've still got 5 picks in the top 3 rounds. I've probably also got at least a 2nd rounder from trading Jake Long. I use the draft to get speed on defense opposite Wake. I ask Coyle what the hell are we doing long term with Vernon. If he's a strong side backer, I draft another rush end. Two in the top 6 picks. I'm drafting a safety to replace Clemons. I'm drafting at least one corner in those top six picks. I'm drafting a tackle and a guard. I'm drafting a tight end high. I'm not signing Finley.
I'm working on an extension for Reshad Jones.
I'm letting Carpenter walk and keeping Kaeding saving money in the process.
We're on the hook for Dimitri Patterson next year, need to figure out if he's worth the money there. Because I'm not paying both him and Marshall to play corner at their salary scale.
Aside from making resigning Bush my #1 priority, I'm making the defense faster and bolstering the front seven with depth. Adding a Greg Jennings to Bess and Hartline will make this offense much better. I'm also drafting a receiver high. so again, top 6 picks in the draft... are in no particular order. DE, WR, G/T, TE, CB, S. Yes I'm leaving Martin at LT and going with either Garner/Yeatman/FA at RT. I'm cutting Incognito and replacing him in the draft with a stud.eltos_lightfoot and Aqua4Ever04 like this. -

Some Depth on the Defense as well, especially at Lb. -
Fasano is an interesting case, he is a good all around Te he just is not quite explosive enough.
I'm of the view that a young Qb needs a young Te to develop alongside like Romo and Witten.
In that sense Egnew has been a huge disappointment. -
i wouldnt pay fasano anymore than $2m ,draft a tight end in rnd 2 and make fasano a #2 te , which imo is what he is
if he wants more he walks -

not sure on long i just let him walk and use the money else where
either on other teams fa , or resigning randy starks which i feel is a must or both -

First thing I do is meet with Philbin to get on the same page and assure him I have no intention of putting a stick in the spokes of his bicycle. We go over his philosophy, D and O approach so I understand them. Then we review every player on the roster, where he feels he needs help and what types of players he likes at each position.
Then I go get them. -
1.) Let Jake walk or try to find a sign and trade partner
2.) Let Reggie Bush walk
3.) Resign Sean Smith
4.) Sign either Greg Jennings or Mike Wallace
5.) Draft like a boss.
